Status: Friday afternoon. Going home to make blueberry cake for kid's birthday tomorrow. Later I'll re-watch an episode of Karl Pilkingtons Seven Wonders of the World. I actually agree with the guy most of the time.

Status: the DB guy for the project goes on a two week vacation.
- "So, who's taking over for you? You know, we need quite a bunch of imports to be done..."
- "Um, well... I guess you are."So that means:
a) the situation in the project is now officially this:
b) I'm either spending the next two weeks on 8-hour coffee binges, or I'll have to write the imports from external systems myself, despite having no idea how that's supposed to work, having no documentation on how that's supposed to work, and having nobody to ask how that's supposed to work
c) no matter what I choose in b), I'll need to deal with this shit:

SET @sql_query_report = '(SELECT ' + ( SELECT select_clause FROM redacted_table_name WHERE id = @param_id ) + ' FROM ' + ( SELECT from_clause FROM redacted_table_name WHERE id = @param_id ) + ' WHERE 1 = 1 AND ' + ( SELECT where_clause FROM redacted_table_name WHERE id = @param_id ) + '''' + CONVERT(VARCHAR(10),@targetdate, 20) + '''' --+ ')'
TTF. What did you expect, reasonable, optimizable and error-checked code?
-
I'm not sure what I expected, except I'm sure it wasn't that.
-
I, on the other hand, had a damn good idea when seeing that table structure. Not sure whether to envy your innocence.

Drop it and start again?

Status: I was about to head out the door this morning,
Wife: "Are you out of here?"
Me: "Yep. I'm off like a prom dress."
Wife: "You really have no idea how inappropriate you are, do you?"
Me: "Not really."

SVN to git conversion
ESR wrote a tool to do that. To tie to a semi-recurring topic here about why you would need more than x amount of RAM, he said he ran into a repository so large--I think it was gcc--that the 32GB in his machine wasn't enough.

Yeah, it was going to have to be either that or string building, to the same effect.

Well it's not that bad (by this place's coding standards, that is).
But they also abuse
xp_cmdshell
for what it's worth (which, for those not speaking TSQL, is basically asystem()
call), and I think there are a few places where the two approaches collide...SQL injection? Fuck it, try CMD injection!

WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS GARBAGE:
"In reply to" is too much to read?

Wife: "You really have no idea how inappropriate you are, do you?"
Me: "Not really."
This may get you into more trouble as your kids grow old enough to understand such things but not old enough to know when it is and isn't appropriate to say them. Which, if they take after you, could be forever.
-
-
You're such a liar, too.
Well, I know when things are inappropriate. I just don't realize it at the time that I am saying them.
For instance, I know it is inappropriate to assail someone's religious beliefs, but I have also suggested to someone that they "pray in one hand and shit in the other and see which one fills up quickest".

Do you have a minute? My internet is broken...
It's probably full. Have you tried draining it?

Status: Annoyed that the Scala development team has no idea what a loop is.

I guess it's a Bad Thing™ that I use Discourse features to keep track of what I've read and what I haven't.

Ben, why don't you work with a good programming language.

Ok.

Because this is part of the first assignment for a course I'm taking at a university.

So how is the prof involved in Scala? Research? Friends?

Ben L, the computing classes at Hamburger U are optional, stick to the business administration classes. You could be managing those greasy 16-year-olds in no time.

Too bad those gaming series are owned by the most Japanese (and therefore sexist) game developer possible.
Zelda, from the company that brought you Metroid: Other M. WHAT A SALES PITCH!

oh fuck off! it's a cool shirt and i like it.

Right; I'm just saying it's not factually accurate and will never be until Nintendo isn't a shitty company run by assholes. The company that took their one strong female character and turned her into a blubbering insecure infant.

Link was a chick?
noooooo......
although that does remind me of some fan fiction that i really should look up again where he was. ;-)

Then too, we already know Zelda is tough, because she spends a bunch of time ing around. She doesn't really need the master sword or a shield.
For Peach, admittedly these weapons look more dangerous than her usual turnips and parasol.

Yeah, she was always in another castle.
<Yeah, yeah, I mixed up Peach and Zelda on purpose, for humor

I dare you to tweet it to blakey, 140 characters at a time.

that would involve me getting a twitter account, or remembering what email address/password i used for the one i already have....

Now, if they really wanted to fix something, they could have tried to make Daisy seem tough. But they weren't up for a real challenge any more than they were actually knowing anything about the characters.
-
The limit is configurable.
I thought Sam put it to 1000, but, I guess not.

The worst thing is, no matter how feminist Accalia is and no matter how fucking terribly Nintendo writes female characters, you know she's going to rush to the store and buy the Wii-U-2 the instant it comes out. Probably buy 3 of them just in case. Then about 47 of those dumb action figures. Then 3 copies of whatever the new boring Mario game is.
