Actually not here. When I get the appointment to the specialist dental surgery, it will cost about as much as the regular extraction would have done.
oh, right. British, where the health care system makes a [copulation, vulgar] tonne more sense. mutter lucky bastard
@Arantor said:It's not quite full general anaesthetic but 'conscious sedation' meaning that I'm technically awake during it but will have little or no actual memory of it and will be largely zombified for the remainder of the day. It's not fun but my nerves cope with that so much better than the alternative.
I think i would almost prefer a full anesthetic... zombie me is.... erratic at best...
@Arantor said:What continues to amaze is how 'not so nervous' everyone here seems to think I am.
One can hide a lot of it when communicating only via text.
-
Indeed, it's one of the times I am quite thankful for my nation even when it is messed up.
Conscious sedation is actually easier on the body than full sedation, not to mention easier for them because they can give you instructions and not have problems with doing so - because you can actually respond to instructions.
When I say zombie - I do mean that. Last time around I just sat staring at the screen of my laptop for hours. It was all I could do to watch a film - and normally I'm the guy watching a film while on IM to multiple people at once - in between writing chunks of code.
I don't mean the mean 'here' here. I mean the people physically here in RL who are convinced that I don't get nervous because I hide it that well.

Yeah. i've had that myself too. three days of zombie. and not a sit in the corner quiet type either. i think they possibly messed up the dosage., either way i'm sicking with general or local.I don't mean the mean 'here' here. oh, that. practice, pure and simple.
/me is also that nervous
-
either way i'm sicking with general or local.
The medics I know advise using local anæsthetic if at all possible; it's a hell of a lot safer than general, for which you need a proper anæsthetist there to keep you alive while you're under. If that's not a good reason to avoid general if you can, I don't know what is.
-
not going to disagree.
but i can't exactly afford to be a zombie for multiple days without also being at a hospital...
-
Exactly why I'm much happier with conscious sedation than I am with an actual general, because I know there's a world of difference and my body is quite capable of letting me be alive - without them having to actively be involved in the process.
-
so back to the special dentistry hospital for sedation.
Wat. I had all my wisdom teeth out at once, at a regular dentist, with conscious sedation, which I cannot recomment highly enough. As long as, of course, you have someone you trust around to take you home.

The regular dentists around here don't offer conscious sedation; it's local or nothing, hence the special hospital for it.
I've had conscious sedation before - and I'm find with it.

Really a regular dentist? Usually that's done by an oral surgeon. At his office, of course. But then I've heard lots of ads about "sedation dentistry," so I doubt that all dentists do that sort of sedation. You'd think they at least could do laughing gas or whatever, but who knows what sort of nonsense British dentists have to operate under.

I didn't read this stuff when I wrote my post.
It's interesting you have that reaction--I went home and fell asleep for several hours but when I woke up I felt fine.
I actually had scheduled several days off of work because I'd been told it can leave you in a bunch of pain, multiple extractions, but I didn't have much trouble--I probably could've gone back the next day, certainly the day after.

Ok, he was probably that. It was about ten years ago.
But I meant "not in a hospital/university, but the dentist's regular office."

Current status: wondering if it's time to quit yet.
Infrastructure group currently has a effort to implement a utility that allows standard users to run specific individual applications with Administrative Rights.
An example of this is a user can run Visual Studio in Administrator mode without have Local Administrative Rights
Over the past month or so we have been monitoring application usage and are starting testing with individual users. We will be deploying this tool across IT in the future. I have discussed this with [software dev manager] and he is ready to expand testing to the rest of the group.
The Process would be as follows:
-
Your standard account would be removed from the Local Administrators group on your machine. You would log off of the machine and then log back in.
-
You would continue your normal workflow and processes. Most required application elevation will be transparent.
-
If you workflow is impacted in anyway contact myself or [coworker] to fix. We have not run across any issues yet.
Call me to discuss further. Or let me know when you would be ready to start. The only action required on your part is to logout and log back in after I make changes.

I used to, a long time ago. Maybe I could then, but if so, I've long forgotten.

We've had something like this for a while, though since I don't run windows, it hasn't affected me.

Is this something that VS users do? Or just a silly example?

Is this something that VS users do?
If your sysadmin drones aren't smart enough to give you Debugger Users or Power Users out of the box, yep, there's the possibility you'll have to do this. SeDebugPrivilege coming up missing can be a barrier to debugging....
Filed under: let's hope you don't need to debug a BSOD!

I'm not really even giving this any thought or effort.

Clearly.

Simple. Don't log off again. Lock your pc when you leave at night and never reboot to install updates

Well, for the next few weeks, anyways.

Status: 2 phone interviews lined-up so far this week.
Difficulty: one is the contracting firm I want to move away from's gig. Fortunately, the position I want more is first, so maybe it won't be an issue... and who knows, maybe they'll hate me.

Status: Thinking I must have picked up a bug over the weekend. Can't focus, extremely tired, things are a bit sloppy in the bathroom, and my pulse is only 60 which is exceptionally low considering how much coffee and Mountain Dew I've consumed today.
Slightly worrisome since the infinitely-wise powers-that-be keep shipping Ebola-infected patients to my city.

Take a week off of work!

A week off would be nice. I really need to detox from caffeine but I know from experience it isn't possible unless I'm already sick and/or away from work.

It also said that ISO 8859-1 is another name for ASCII.

Also: my co-worker and I were investigating a bug, and when trying to reproduce it, found other bugs. It was a Discourse moment.
This again. I have changes in testing, and QA keeps sending it back after finding bugs that are pre-existing.
-

Is it any wonder that people have trouble with Unicode when textbook authors (and editors) can't even get ISO 8859-1 right? Pity the poor students who have to learn from books like that.

The market's been pretty hot the past few years, although moreso down here than up where you are.

Maybe. Everyone might be rushing to fill vacancies before the holiday season. No one wants to be trying to fill spots over the holidays.
