Que? I just checked and it is showing as registered to me.
register.ly said available to me!
was it lying or did i gete sniped?
-
The problem is it's not exactly a Perl script. It's a proprietary blend of XML and Perl
:twitch:

yeah, now it says that to me.....
-grumble mutter rassum frassum-

...and the whois server for .ly domains is down so we have no idea who has it. My guess is that there is some sort of issue on their end and it showed that as being available when it wasn't, as that is a pretty awesome domain name to just be available.
Or...more likely...you fat fingered it the first time around and this is a repeat of the server cooties incident.

It wouldn't be too bad if I could just get Notepad++ to highlight the contents of CDATA as Perl. Or at least not inconsistently f*ck up on the XML tags when I switch the language to Perl to edit those bits.

for the record. that was not my fat fingering! that was @onyx that fatfingered it, i just C&Ped his tyop.

You can kick the can all you want, but everyone knows that if you were a better spellar you would have caught it.
Also, you should probably scrutinize the spellaring of ESL people, even if they speak English impeccably well. ;)

........ grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr You have a valid point....

i am disappoint that .er registrations are disallowed right now.....
that would be awesome.

Surfsafer.ly?
-
if i'm going to try to turn a profit on this one i'd better not have a joke in my domain name.
-
And given the cost of
.ly
domains, I'd want to at least break even
-
Except, 1 in 10 times, it just shows you the page without a warning.
And also overlays an audio file that says, "WATCHING PORN AT WORK!! WATCHING PORN AT WORK!!" at max volume.
-
And when you try to close the tab you get a popup of Denis Nedry saying "uh uh uh, you didn't say the magic word"

..... CLOSED-WONTFIX
this is a terrible idea! no! bad @polygeekery!
-
And when you try to close the tab you get a popup of Denis Nedry saying "uh uh uh, you didn't say the magic word"
Which when you close, you get a pop-up of Clippy saying, "Are you sure you don't want everyone to know you are watching porn at work?"

Status: I just checked my VLSC account and there are licenses for 2012R2 Datacenter edition in there. I don't remember buying those...

Status: Hungry. I would kick a nun for a cheeseburger.

I'm going home soon, where I will be cooking duck a l'orange
-
That is quite the meal to pop home to prepare.
-
Wait, nuns are cheeseburger pinatas? Why has no one told me this before
-
They're like pez dispensers. You kick them hard enough to knock their head back and a burger comes out

Apparently it will take about 45 minutes. First time I've tried it, though, so it could be a massive clusterfuck

This is why I stick around here. When I make an inappropriate joke, you guys take it and run to the next level.

Online recipes ETA's are much like time estimates for software projects, double them and then add some and you will be pretty close.
-
The recipe is from Hello Fresh, which tends to be quite accurate IME.
It's quote a good service, but the normal price is a bit more than I'd like to pay, so I tend to cancel it and wait for them to phone me with a money off offer
-
Hungry. I would kick a nun for a cheeseburger.
That seems unlikely to have the desired result.

You don't know until you try it. @flabdablet will tell you the same about his economic policy ideas.

status: i just learned that travis-ci can build branches too. This shall be useful for version 2.0 of sockbot (yes i am skipping version 1.0 completely. deal with it. :-P )

This actually got me to see if there was a convent in my town, doesn't look like it. Are catholic schools are still staffed with actual sisters?

The Jeff is strong with this one.

i swore never to release version 1.0 of any project i ever worked on. and i will keep my promise.

Jeff made the same promise, but for different raisins.

...... didn';t we have version 1.0 of discourse recentlyish?
there was a party and everything.
-
Would you call it a 1.0 release?
-
-
-shrug-
honestly i have no strong feelings there. Discourse is feature complete enough to sell, and it's stable enough to back that up. some would call that version 1.0.
besides if you wait until everything is perfect before you release you'll never release.
that being said discourse is buggier than i would like and the rate of regressions seems excessive.
but on a piece of software like discourse complete code coverage is impossible to achieve, particulalry when large portions of the code base are on browsers. I should know, i had to cover a JS library and i struggled something fierce to get even 80% coverage, and i was just testing against 5 browsers and only one OS.
i think the testing could do better in discourse but yeah i can see the argument that it's 1.0
it's not a great 1.0, but then so many great pieces of software had terrible first releases but managed to limp through and recover to be powerhouses.

do you want bite marks? because that's the unfun way to get them. <i am of course, joking

Yes, but they skip adding tests for things that are obvious candidates for automated tests. Like the emoji auto-complete. What's the over-under on when that breaks again?
-

i didn't say i aproved of their high level of regressions....
actually that reminds me i need to add a feature request....
-
actually that reminds me i need to add a feature request
*sits attentively, waiting for more info*

basically i'd like a per user option to turn the damn autocomplete off and have it summonable by key combo instead. i find it too eager.
for example i find myself constantly editing my @mentions. Ususally @RaceProUK, because i'll intitially type it @raceprouk and then notice and correct the capitalization, but if i'm not paying attention i'll hit a key like enter or space or even right arrow at some point and have it fill in a random seeming username that i have to then go and fix.
quite frustrating.
same for emoji. I typed
:-P
and i want to post:-P
, i do not want to post:stuck_out_tongue:
i'd prefer auto complete to be summoned rather than appear when it wants to, which because of cooties and server round trips can sometimes be several seconds after i type the emoji or @mention.
