No. That's a lot of money to spend on something I'd only need for 4 days every 5 years.
How big's your house? You could spend a couple of hundred bucks or a bit less on a 5-8000BTU window unit that could keep a couple of rooms cool.
-
All the heat it pumps out of the room comes right back in the window you have to open to use it.
Ah, you got a portable one, not a window unit? Another "well, there's your problem" meme. Although you could rig up something to put in the open window to seal it, with a hole for the AC exhaust, which is what you're actually supposed to do with those.

the weather prediction is a high of 91.
Status: Enjoying the pleasant weather (something I don't say often), although I wasn't enjoying it so much this morning when I was mowing my lawn. I had to quit because so much sweat was dripping into my eyes that I couldn't see what I was doing. I'll finish up this evening, if I don't get preoccupied with other stuff.
This is Washington State! That should be illegal!
Only in western Washington. It's pretty commonplace in, say, Spokane.

Fun: ESO, when you power-up your best attack, deciding to auto-target the little white mouse on the ground instead of the enemy you wanted and wasting all the stamina/mana.
Funner: ESO, when you're fighting an enemy in a town area (which is way too frequent) does the same thing with a friendly NPC, meaning now you have to go hide from the cops for like an hour.

I lived in Ellensburg for 4 years, so I knew that.
The difference is: I am not a pedantic dickweed, so I didn't bother pointing that useless trivia that has nothing to do with anything out.
-
Dont you have ac?
I remember a former coworker saying that relatives from Arizona were complaining it was too hot here, because nobody here has AC, and they're used to living in walk-in refrigerators.
-

Any other personal deficiencies you'd like to confess while you're at it?

EDIT: Oh goddamned, the weather prediction is a high of 91. 91! This is Washington State! That should be illegal!
You should try the southeast part of the state. The Tri-Cities often get triple digits in the summer, and average less than 4 inches of precipitation annually.

Wait, there's targeting in an Elder Scrolls game? As in "click on enemy and take turns quoting numbers until the one who quoted the smaller numbers falls over dead"?

Wait, there's targeting in an Elder Scrolls game?
Yeah. It's an MMO.
It hides the MMO mechanics pretty well, but its combat uses MMO mechanics. Which is one of the reasons lag is brutal on ESO. (Imagine an MMO with targeting, but it's invisible, and without auto-attack. Then imagine 500ms of latency on such an MMO with absolutely no GUI feedback... ouch.)

portable air conditioner
I don't know if you want to consider doing this or not, but Steven den Beste has the same problem: a few days a year where the weather's too hot. His situation is compounded by not having a place he can put a window AC unit, so he makes ghetto AC: Big bowl of ice with a fan blowing on it. (He mentioned buying 80 pounds of ice a couple of days ago.)

As a resident of South East Queensland I'm wondering what would happen if you got a big bowl of ice and had the AC blowing on it.

What a mess. And of course, who's gonna fork out for an

This is like 17th time you reference heat. Wtf is wrong with you. Dont you have ac?
I expect that nonsense from us eurofags, not from nice practical americans.
He lives in western WA, not TX -- so he only gets cooked once a year, not once a day.

Yup -- window units beat portable ACs any day of the week.Without the clicking, apparently - blakey is going on about auto-targeting.
Yeah -- heck, that's something that's by no means unique to ESO.

Oops, looks like icann decided to declare our would-be private "cloud" domain as TLD.
How did that come as a surprise to anybody? They've been saying TLDs are fair-game for like 5-6 years now.
This is not an industry where you can just bury your head in the dirt and ignore all press releases until they cause a problem. Well, it is. But it shouldn't be.
-
Sucks to not have central air :3
Aren't wall/floor units like $100? Seems like a worthwhile thing to have, even if it doesn't get hot in Seattle usually.
-
Apparently it's a thing to not have central air in Seattle considering the weather is 55-70F cloudy misty for 90% of the year
-
I have something like this:
that I bought for like $40 at a garage sale like 8 years ago.
This has been the first year in a lot of years it's been worthwhile to actually set it up, plug it in, and pay the power bills for it. I wasn't kidding when I said AC isn't needed in Western Washington except about 5 days every 5 years. (Although this year it's more like 2 weeks.)
-
How did that come as a surprise to anybody? They've been saying TLDs are fair-game for like 5-6 years now.
But dear Hustler, I never thought it could happen to ME!
This is not an industry where you can just bury your head in the dirt and ignore all press releases until they cause a problem. Well, it is. But it shouldn't be.
Well, as I was messing with this, I noticed these Windows servers haven't been updated for years. So yeah. Yay admins!
-
The problem with feeling stupid, is that the feeling comes after you managed to make a few choices.

I bet this number isn't cool either...

I noticed these Windows servers haven't been updated for years
does that mean they had a multi-year uptime?

I actually feel mediocre : )

Did they actually reserve any for LAN use though? As I recall the suggested TLD for your lan is something
.yourcompany.com
.
