Status: Finally back home. I realized that when I left I forgot to put the cover on the dog door. I am very glad I did not come home to a house full of wildlife.

i think there's at least one closer
Well, yes, but it'll either be in someone's house, so unavailable, or in a supermarket or other shop that's currently closed, so unavailable

Do you ever have Thai food? If so, you'd love to hear how they make fish sauce:
I chose not to read that onebox, TYVM.

Status: I think the Jeffing screwed up the blue circles for this thread on the front page… for me, anyway…
For me, the blue circles have been hopelessly screwed up ever since the last update. I have to refresh almost every time I return to latest.

Status: So I finally went to bed, wanted to find a podcast or something to play as I fall asleep and I noticed the battery LED on my laptop blinking wildly. WTF?
So, unplug charger, laptop turns off. Remove battery, return battery, plug charger in, blinking...
Your battery has experienced permanent failure and needs to be replaced.
Awesome

The picture shown doesn't have any the usual model tip-offs to my eye, but you're right - I'm uncomfortable with background vs. foreground lighting... hmm.
It's hard to tell from a small picture, but the clouds, rock formations, and the reflection on the nose don't look quite right — very realistic overall, but those details look like paintings to me.
And this from the website hosting that picture (emphasis added):
This is the official site featuring the aviation art, military art, space art and railroad art of Mark Karvon. Most of the pencil drawings and paintings on display are available as fine art prints.

Used to dream about having my own dark room.
I wound up donating all my darkroom equipment to my daughter's high school about 6-ish years ago. (Yes, they still did film, although I think even the B&W was C-41, maybe?) I hadn't used it over 20 years.

Is that actually a big enough thing in Seattle where traffic snarls are possible?
I remember hearing on the radio yesterday morning a recommendation that if people didn't need to go into Seattle, they should avoid it. There were going to be three separate parades/marches/protests/whatever, and one of them didn't have a permit, so they had NFC how badly it was going to mess things up. But I don't work downtown, so I didn't even remember until I read this.

Try logout/login and/or switching CSS. One of those eventually worked for me.

More work for the Access/VBA client, including trying to figure out an issue when importing stuff into the Access application from an application written in .NET 2.0 for Windows Mobile Pocket PC.
If I were to get that ticket or work order, I would just reply to it with, "You're fucking with me, right?"
That is an onion of shit that should not be used at all, and definitely not together.
-
The download should be done by next week.
How much content can they fit in 10mb these days?
-
a recommendation that if people didn't need to go into Seattle, they should avoid it.
That just seems like a good recommendation, regardless of circumstances.
-
But it all is, already built for them and they run with it.
The "positive" sides are:
- We didn't write the Access system that is on "every" desktop (it's a nightmare to have to troubleshoot)
- We didn't write the Windows Mobile component that is on their handheld scanners (it's actually straightforward and not bad).
The negative sides:
- We are acting support for these applications, including new features. And most support issues are for the Access piece, not the one for the scanners.
- My boss was pushing them for a rewrite to get out of Access into .NET many years ago (nearly a decade ago, I think), but they declined because of intra-branch politics and likely now won't ever upgrade until they "have to" to an off-the-shelf system most likely.
- They have multiple branches that each use a copy of these systems, each customized slightly per branch.
But, the silver lining for #3, we only do support for one branch.

The download should be done by next week.
Guessing you mean Mother's Day and not tomorrow.

Oh, that one! Stupid shoot the wall thing...
Now, to remember where that bit was, because there's not much of the imps left... some splatter and that's all...
Got it! Thanks!

Status: Just found out from my boss last week about some discussions he was having with some potential business partners. He was discussing a potentially lucrative data-driven system with them which I am helping him revise for v3.0. They had been trying to get something similar off the ground using a team of about a dozen devs. After two months, they canned the entire team because they were unable to figure out how to implement the system. Apparently, I am the only developer they have been able to find who can understand this system of theirs, and I think it's pretty simple. Either devs these days are just really dumb (on average), or I'm a genius
Given what's posted on here all the time, I'm thinking it's the former.

Status: My regular work machine is my laptop. It seems that the battery died, completely, so I can't delay it any more (there were some extra annoyances with it, too, but nothing past "annoying"), it needs to get repaired.
Good news:
- It's still under warranty.
- I have a replacement machine. It's nothing special, but I'm not left without a computer.
- I am actually allowed to take out the HDD out of it, so I just plugged it into the replacement machine.
Bad news:
- Not much RAM. Oh well, I can live with it.
