The Official Status Thread

Status: after about 36 microwave-related posts I just hit the "scroll to bottom" button. Goddamned you morons talk about boring shit.
I was looking for some kind of "Join Us" image/video, and this seems to be abundantly creepy:
-
Everyone calls them SMS in Germany, FWIW.
I would think most Americans at least know what the term means, even if we don't normally use it.
-
$PLURALIZATION_NOT_FOUND
I was dubious about it as well. I buttumed it's
advice
in plural as well. Then I tried it for the hell of it and the speelchucker didn't complain.I am now confuse.
Filed under: Evidences. Fucking hell, that works too! Speelchucker is broked

It's just like information.

Better use a counter top model for that. I doubt that a wall mount microwave is going to be able to support the weight.
Given the size of most microwaves, you'd probably have to dismember anything that would weigh enough to be a problem, anyway, so @cartman82's probably good even with a wall-mounted microwave.
Now, if the wattage isn't sufficient...
-
Well...there's your problem.
You know, I rely on the damned thing to be at least semi-competent. I don't really have the time to check the dictionary every time I'm not 100% sure about something.

Well, don't complain when other people point out your weird "words", then.
-

You are way too trusting of programming and the people who do it. Especially so considering what forum you frequent.

Ain't complainin'. The more I know

True dat.

Status: just got an email from a customer: "I need to install [client software] on a new PC. can you help?"
Yes. Read the fucking installation instructions we put on every fucking CD.
I swear I'm going to make a bunch of Youtube videos of myself doing various types of installations and just email people links to them when they ask. Seriously, the install consists of
61. Network installation of Progress
24. Know where the database is and what port it listens on
17. Know the network share/drive mapping where the programs are
24. Run the installer and tell it you want a client installation, and the two pieces of information in steps 24 (the first one) and 17.Aside: ? preserved for posterity, and to see what happens:
-
Wait, what? It didn't renumber the list!
Nobody tell @blakeyrat. He might die of excitement.

Even worse: All markdown implementations belgium this up:

Well I guess you two just aren't special enough, altho the weird extra blank lines in @aliceif's lists, that don't show up in raw, are certainly special.
-
Try putting a newline in front. See how it fares.
3. yes
4. it's that stupid- No, I don't know

Before anyone says anything, bear in mind I resolutely refuse to learn all the quirks of Markdown, and I suggest you do as well.
Having said that I bet it didn't Jeff my list because there's no blank line before it.

You expected a different outcome?

You are way too trusting of programming and the people who do it. Especially so considering what forum you frequent.
the more i learn about programming, the less i trust technology.
-
Seriously, why the hell does this site constantly have issues? No other site that I frequent has this much sporadic downtime. This is just utter rubbish.
-
i am the only one who has the round avatars again?
-
I saw round highlights. I guess it's the avatars, too? Maybe CSS overrides are not loading? I dunno, all I'm getting is the text. Sometimes.

For posterity:
If I was running a website, and I saw performance like this, I'd be wanting to commit hari-kiri by now. This isn't just the odd bit of downtime; this is a systemic failure. And yet… nothing seems to be being done about it!
-
the more i learn about
programmingthings involving humans, the less i trusttechnologyanything that depends on it.
FTFM

Maybe CSS overrides are not loading?
Had that happen a few times when the site barely loaded.
-
-
now that's an idea for discourse.sucks content
-
This isn't just the odd bit of downtime; this is a systemic failure.
It is constant. Multiple times a day, every single day.
Very frustrating.
-
If that's a servercooties graph screenshot (I buttume it is, IT WON'T LOAD!):
Note that those "better" times are, from what I saw, not better times: the requests are actually timing out!
Yes, it's a bug on our (servercooties) end, those shouldn't be averaged as zeros. It's an embarrassing bug. Not as embarrassing as the whole situation is, though. Hell, we made that site because shit like this keeps happening!
-
i like how your avatar doesn't even load
-
There are images that load for you? I'm not getting a single one.
-
Yes, it's a bug on our (servercooties) end, those shouldn't be averaged as zeros
Zeroes shouldn't be plotted anyway; that's bad data, as response times will never be zero
-
they load. sometimes.
right now they are loading.
-
Agreed. Let's see if there will be anything left to monitor after today, though.
-
SURELY GUISE, IT'S THE STATUS THREAD WITH 16k AND T-1000 WITH 40k POSTS THAT ARE TO BLAME, WHO WOULD EVER HAVE SUCH TOPICS?
ALSO, BOTS, BOTS, BOTS!
this post is now jeffcriptive.
-
Oh, I'm willing to bet t/1000 has something to do with it; after all, it was part of the issue some months ago where autolocking a thread took the site down for several minutes

Actually feeling good. It's a good idea to save some easily fixable UX issues for times when you just need to feel accomplished.
-
you just need to fill accomplished
On a more serious note, if it was those delete buttons you were talking about... I'd still be uncomfortable with that solution :-\
-
Status: someone filled my head with mud. Took a break to go outside for some fresh air but by the time I'd got back to my desk I felt just as bad again.
Only one more hour.
Completely pointless hour as I'm probably incapable getting anything useful done, but owing to the terms of my employment I can't leave early on a Friday, (unless I got in early).

My avatar in the top right has never once loaded in Windows Phone 8. That's "normal".
-
No. I added a button to open a window you could normally only reach by double-clicking list items.
-
And about the deletion buttons:
I made the backend function that calls the group deletion stored procedure (which is literally just a DELETE) throw an ArgumentException when the group is not empty.

Loads on mine; what's the resolution of your phone's screen?
-
Well, that's a step in the right direction. I'd still say that proper constraints are really, really desirable, but at least you have some checks in place now.
More generally: Status:
Still messing with those messages. Oookay... let's say that sounds good enough...
Amateur hour, seriously.
-
Loads on mine; what's the resolution of your phone's screen?
Let's see, it's approximately FuckYou x SuckAGoatsAnus pixels large.
-
Well, someone is certainly pleasant today...

I know what you mean:
2. That would be way too much effort- And I don't even escape things anymore
- I don't even know why anybody would have trouble with these lists.
