It was rainy and stormy when I arrived, and my umbrella broke because of a sudden squall.
But the customers have been quiet and nice today.

Status: Had a good night's sleep. Definitely slept more than the previous night (which was something like 2,5 hours), and I'm sleepy now.
Sigh... caffeine time...
-
Status: Back from a fire drill. As usual some people stayed in their office. I am now contemplating whether we should inform their next of kin that they didn't make it.
Also: Everyone simply floated back in again without anyone actually giving the "all clear". So technically I guess we all walked into a burning building...

I'm not sure if that's something we don't know already.

I wouldn't worry too much; SockBot doesn't have a Markov chain generator module, I don't have access to your complete posting history, what I do have access to is not easily farmed, and I'm lazy ;)

SockBot doesn't have a Markov chain generator module
yet
I don't have access to your complete posting history
you can get most of it.
what I do have access to is not easily farmed

That's OK; I can't help myself with it either. Because I'm lazy

It's short enough; I could probably recite it by rote.

decides to research Markov chains
they're actually pretty simple.
that one's in python, but it's also my general go to algorithm for building markov chains in any language
keeps things nice and simple that way and it works bot for character based chains and word based chains.

Status: A client we do some system maintenance for just got, to use Internet terminology, pwned.
Someone, somewhere picked up one of those viruses that encrypt all Office documents. And let it loose on the company share.
There was no proper permission system, the damned thing had free reign over good 99.9% of all data. No, there's no proper backup, anywhere. No, I don't know if someone brought it on their own laptop or there was no A/V on one of the computers.
All of the above was suggested, in writing, with all project documentation, discussed, approved, discussed again, signed, forgotten, discussed once more and dismissed as not a priority. Because it would cost money.
We are not, by contract, liable for any of the data BTW. I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry at this point. Probably laugh to tears...

Was it also left in a basement lavatory behind a closed door bearing a sign reading 'Beware of the leopard'?

You're not liable; it is your moral duty therefore to laugh and mock ;)Also, with a bit more detail and some nice story elements, it's Sidebar material too ;)

@MottBott accepts a PM command to change the source posts for its seed...however I'm assuming Discourse managed to crash out my uncrashable bots again.

Status: Saw a strange and dangerous thing on the road this morning. A Jeep Wrangler with all the windows smashed out, the interior looked like an episode of Hoarders, and it was spraying gasoline from the left rear tire. It was flinging about a pint of fuel rearward with each wheel revolution, and the whole package was going 65 mph on the highway.
-
Was it also left in a basement lavatory behind a closed door bearing a sign reading 'Beware of the leopard'?
Quite possible. But it's guarded too heavily to check. As opposed to the server room which you could access by breaking a single glass door.
Also, with a bit more detail and some nice story elements, it's Sidebar material too
Still investigating stuff. And after I posted it here, I'd be dubious about submitting any more gory details unless very heavily censored. Or maybe in like a few years, after this gets buried.
-

Wouldn't be surprised if it ran out of gas a few miles later, at that rateā¦ to the benefit and sanity of everyone within a 100yd radiusā¦

Status: Intellisense has stopped working. No pop ups, noauotcomplete. This must be howw open source people feel when they develop, always having to look in other files for method signatures and things.
Actually, it's not that bad. Red squiggles for syntax errors and all the syntax highlighting are still working, so I'm still much better off than if I was writing this in Notepad, but it's still weird and annoying
-
Back from a fire drill. As usual some people stayed in their office.
Interesting. You don't have the firemen check the building to make sure everyone's out, in your country?

Hopefully someone use the phrase "teachable moment" in the customer's hearing.

... i should have done command based rather than iterative for the robot. this poor man's PID control just isn't going to cut it... and putting in proper PID is going to be a right pain in the tails....

Or buried in soft peat for six months and recycled as firelighters? I think the leopard is for things that are neither discussed nor dismissed.

That was the one I was aiming for, yes. But I remember it poorly and I didn't have the time to look for the proper quote.

"Signed in triplicate, sent in, sent back, queried, lost, found, subjected to public inquiry, lost again and finally buried in soft peat for six months and recycled as firelighters." IIRC. It's pretty close to that anyway. Could google but that would take all the fun out of it.
EDIT: did google it. Was sure I'd missed a couple of things and I had.

i'd be impressed if you could find one there, because i didn't intend one

IIRC default TTL for DNS queries is 2 hours.... so most places should have it pretty quickly.
