How did you manage that? Wheneever I do that all my windows jump around because Windows thinks the primary monitor is suddenly a CRT.
-
@Tsaukpaetra Shockingly, Linux Mint can handle a monitor switch like that and automagically moves all windows from the laptop monitor to the external monitor when I close the lid. And the other way around when I disconnect the external and go back to the built-in. It Just Works. It even keeps the windows as they were, but I dunno if that’s because competence or because both monitors are 1080p.

Some laptops tend to overheat when running with the lid closed for extended periods of time.
That sounds like a design flaw to me
-
@Atazhaia said in The Official Status Thread:
Disabling the “sleep when lid closed” in Windows is however not a satisfactory solution, as then it wont automatically do that when “undocked” either. Or turn off the built-in monitor with lid closed. So, yeah, Windows is as per usual doing it all ways of dumb.
You can set a separate policy for plugged in or on battery. Not quite docked/undocked but close enough.

I even make sure to use OSes on laptops that supports lid-closed-with-external-peripherals without issues (macOS and Linux).
Interesting that things have actually changed that much. My personal ranking of "goes to sleep when lid closed" from previous experience was:
macOS: Just Works
99.9% of the time, unless some MS decides to keep it awake. But even then at least the display turns off.
Windows: Works about 70% of the time.
Enough to give you a false sense of security that you can use it. I once closed the lid and put the laptop in the bag, just to find it with fans spinning full power in a heated up bag an hour later. Thanks for the fire hazard.
Linux: What's Standby?

I used to have a recurring problem with that. My experience was that it was asleep when I put it in the bag, but something woke it up later.

Status: 100% completed Golden Sun (1 and 2) 100% and for GS2 on hard mode too (no hard mode in 1). The super extra boss Dullahan took 2 hours and 45 seconds to beat(!), which is the longest JRPG boss fight I have ever done. That is also one attempt btw, I had no total party kill or restart. Boss with healing, life steal, djinnfest (very nasty ability) and a bunch of attacks that has a chance of instakill a character. In addition to the higher attack, defense and health from hard mode.
My party was at all the best gear, levelled to have all magics available. Not optimized classes, though. I was running my own custom setup. At least it gave me plenty characters with resurrect spell and I still also used 30 res items (of my 31).

Well, here I am arguing with you again, but what the fuck are you on about? There is a seperate setting for when on battery or external power, and every laptop I've seen in at least the last 20 years turns off the screen when closed.
Windows even flips the icons on the desktop around to the way they were last time it was plugged into the monitors with the lid closed (well, except when it loses its shit and rearranges by name, but it can do that even without rearranging the screens. Like when your desktop is on the server and the network connection drops momentarily.)

Yes, take the weaker option, I dare you. (French mustard really is milder and smoother.)

Sure, but the settings were not working in any sane way last I tried regardless. Supposedly it will work when having a proper dock, but it did not when connecting a monitor and USB hub directly.
I did also check the settings on Linux Mint, and it is set to "sleep when lid closed" on both battery and external power. But with a separate toggle if I want to "also apply lid closed settings with external monitor connected", so I have to override the sane defaults if I want the stupid Windows behaviour.
Also add to this the dumbness of Windows randomly waking the computer from sleep to do some highly demanding task, even when on battery, and you can see how Windows is really not laptop-friendly.

But one of them is an $80 AAA title, surely it must be good. It's 2.66x the price of Palworld because of all that extra value! And it has DLC & deluxe edition options too!

I think I had dr pepper once. I didn't like it. I doubt pre-heating to 180°C will help matters and I do not own a pressure cooker anyway.

What I get from this is: if someone offers me Dr. Pepper, I'll turn the glass around 180°.

@Zecc On which axis? Assuming the normal right-handed, z is up configuration, rotating around the z axis has very little effect, while rotating around any vector containing non-trivial x or y components may have different results.

That I can agree with 100%. Dr. Pepper is nasty. Just like Mountain Dew, Pepsi, and Coke. And the vast majority of other sodas.
