@Benjamin-Hall as it turns out...I was supposed to work last Friday and have this coming Friday off. Oops.
Also, started work and got a "this isn't working" urgent issue. Except it's mostly in another team's domain, and both of those devs have the week off... Sigh.

Prediction for 2024 (Germany ):
2023 will have been the last year in which you could freely buy truckloads of fireworks. Also, in completely unrelated events preceding this future decision, a certain party will poll 5% higher on January 2nd.

Telling DDG not to search for orijen does produce some results for the use of "oribken" but nothing that defines it.

I blame a slight shift of the world by 2.2cm or so for a split second of keyboard entry...

Status: Slow news day, so I'm reading through some Darts world championship results. To nobody's surprise, all German players are already out of the race. Then I look at some of the pictures of the names I don't recognize...
One of these is 16, the other is 29.
Is it just me, or did anybody else guess wrong?!
First: Ricardo Pietreczko, 29, Germany. (Nicknamed )
Second: Luke Littler, 16, England.

Using my American eyes I deduced correctly assuming your answer in the details is correct.

Acquire some non-US sockets and plugs so that the cleaning staff can't plug into the UPS.

As fun as modifying a piece-of-shit unit would be, it only ever happens once a month or so....
-
Yeah, on the @Tsaukpaetra reliability scale, a once-a-month outage doesn't even register.

Status: In other news, I re-opened port 8000 to check a thing.
Turns out no, my ancient iPXE setup doesn't quite work anymore.
Mostly because nothing I have in there is using EFI, other things are because the iPXE kernel I was using had extra features that are apparently not standard, and I don't have a EFI image to try it on.

It's just the kernel that can't quite handle things.

What about running your things on 230 V AC instead of 110 V DC?
It would cause a beautiful cleanup then...

Who run things on 110V DC?

@TimeBandit substation for control circuit, apparently.

Indeed. It's much easier to convert between AC standards and clocks by making it DC-ish first...

Reminds me of a salesman that worked at one of my previous gigs. I don't know how he did it but he negotiated something ridiculous like 93% uptime. I still meet him for drinks when I'm in London. He thinks corporate climbing would be a better move than contracting since I had sobered up a bit.

@DogsB half an hour downtime per work day / 1.5 hour per day?
That guy deserves his sales commission.

That guy deserves his sales commission. The guy was a legend. A client terminated a contract under slightly less than hostile circumstances. Short dumb story that involved the CEO letting slip that we acted as a go-between for outsourcing. He stated £20,000 a month as an opening offer. Somehow got slightly north of 16,000. It was basically a queue with enough load it could have been hosted on a Raspberry Pi or AWS for a couple of quid a day.
The man was gifted. Wasn't spectacularly good looking but definitely proof that you should put more points into charisma.

So I have another order where they can't charge a card. Except this time I sort of care because it was the only place I could get a preorder for this figure and I'm supposed to get one of them free from a sale. I'd pay the card but I know from experience they don't wait the 24 hours for a payment to post before cancelling. I went to change the card and get my favorite H1B error message - "oops, something happened."
So I call the customer support line. It says they're closed and to call on their next business day. Uh, it's Thursday. Since they've hidden the phone number on their site, am I just supposed to magically know their hours and that they might be shifted due to Texas?
Edit: Fantastic. I finally get through but they claim they can only use the same system I've been trying to use so they will get the same inscrutable error. They recommend going to a store and having them try to update my payment because supposedly they're on a different system. They also can't tell me when my order will be automatically cancelled. What the hell good is customer service if they don't know anything and can't do anything? Maybe I was better off with the retarded AI.
Given the pattern of the last order, which was cancelled 34 hours after the first failure, this failure starting at 1:30 AM means I should have time to wait for a payment to post. But I will probably trek down to a store tonight, only to be disappointed that they can't do anything either.
