Status: I don’t know how my dad can say things like “people aren’t stupid, they just think differently.” No, they are stupid, sometimes dangerously so. How we’ve survived as a species up to this point becomes a bigger mystery every fucking day.
-
@Zenith we are, as a species, somehow not quite terminally stupid.
-
@Zenith I hate to point the obvious, but you don't need every individual of a species to survive for the species to survive. And natural selection only works if it acts before the individual procreates.

Carlin said something similar: “Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.”

@accalia Looks delicious; wish I could eat it.

@accalia Homemade bread is something else.
I had a German professor in college who was actually from Germany. He would tell us how mediocre our bread was compared to back in Germany. Not in a mean sort of way, like people can be when arguing about beer from one country or another, but more like he wished we could taste what we were missing. I've always wondered how my mom's homemade bread would stack up. I wouldn't buy the stuff at the grocery store if she made it more than once or twice a year.

Bread is sooooooo easy to make.
if you've never tried it i WHOLLY recommend it.
it's magical, and once you know how you'll want to do it oftem.
this recipe's about 4 hours start to finish which is: about 15-20 minutes wet prep, then two hours of doing other things while it rises. a mintue or so forming the loaves, 45 min or so second raise. then 35 min baking. Plus cleanup of course.
I often do it while working cause i take a morning break then just have to do a thing a couple of times a day.
and fresh bread is sooooooooooooooooooooo worth it.

Why do people get paid to produce shit like that?!

@topspin It sounds like Reddit is carrying on its transformation into social media, and the ad-verse that comes with it. Gotta pay that sweet sweet IPO money somewhere.

Fitbit just did that too (on the phone, haven't looked at the web). Home page is completely restyled. The subpages look the same. And the fuckers took away the battery level. Look, some of us still use a Flex - you know, the one with 5 LED dots on it? It has no screen? Yeah, that one. I need the fucking battery level indicator on the home screen so I don't need to poke eleventyBillion buttons to see if I need to charge it or not.

Oh, they went ahead and rolled it out? Damn that's disappointing. Was in the preview where no less than 40 percent of the feedback items were directly about the missing battery icon and several other #improvements.

If you ever lie awake at night fretting that you might never see an accurate depiction of portals’ influence on gravity, worry not, I have you covered:
Stay tuned for further developments on my upcoming hit, Portal but the Gravity is Conservative (or Portal ∇×g=0 for short).
-
@kazitor this next test applies the principles of momentum to movement through portals. If the laws of physics no longer apply in the future, God help you.

@kazitor said in The Official Status Thread:

I already told you it’ll be a hit, but I can tell you why: the secret sauce is, I’m training an LLM to tabulate the potentials for any portal configuration. Actually I’m thinking what it should do is dynamically generate the physics code to apply appropriate gravity at runtime. Oh, I’ll be drowning in dosh sooner than you can say ‘Star Citizen.’ Well, I never said it would be a hit with players, but who cares what they think beyond the details on their credit cards.
The approach above was a bit crude, mostly a proof of concept that I could actually FDM it in the first place. I have a good idea of how to refine it further, that should resolve potentials better, support portals with different orientations and even consider their sides separately if that turns out to matter (I doubt it). Then I can run it and ruin the double fling manoeuvre forever.
But of course now that I have a proof of concept, and the result was about what I already expected, further work joins the stack of ‘interesting stuff to do not now (∀now).’
