Status: I let one small irritant get to me and pressing firmly on the Esc key broke the keyboard leg. Fuck you Chrome for popping up and stealing focus to say "hey, I can't update" when you're only 1 version number behind.
So, I should probably be more upset at myself for this, but considering I found quite a few 3D Printer schematics and a seller on Etsy/eBay who specifically sells 3D printed keyboard legs, I assume the need isn't insignificant due to wear and tear from age or "rough usage".

Isn't there some possibility to suppress the automatic update of chrome, like the "policies" file of Mozilla which will tell you "Your browser is being managed by your organization."?
Anyways, you can set some directory access rights in Windows which eventually prevents Chrome from updating, and it does not steal the focus in my case.

It's not that I don't want it to update, but it could've just not interrupted the user about not being able to update when it was only just out of date.

it was two versions out of date, it was 111, latest right now is 113
Don't worry; 114 will be out in a few minutes.

I believe we have a member that could help with that.

Okay, so, good news: Battery works fine. Apparent run time is perhaps three hours? Will let it charge overnight.
Bad news: Passive PoE does not work, it must actually be negotiated.
So I go about updating everything to the latest firmware...
Are. You. Fucking. Kidding. Me?
Granted it's not my $1600 machine, but come on...
Also, getting used to this message...
Apparently, serial communications is hard...

Above is the HID keyboard typing, below is the data sent over the serial port (which is somewhat more accurate but still a bit broken)
I'm running firmware 4.2.2_sr3, which I think is the latest one?

Status: Some client to whom I delivered a Windows version of our software asked if a linux version is available, and specified RHEL 8.4. I wanted to test that first, but we're running stone-age RHEL 7. So I installed it on a VM. The VMware vCloud shit is its own ball of annoying WTF, but I got it installed.
So the thing by default comes with whatever gnome-based desktop that is... It's so amazingly intuitive that the first thing it opens is, thankfully, a video on how to start an app. I guess many of you have used that before, but here's my impressions:
As usual for gnome's I-wish-I-were-a-Mac desktop, there's some kind of title bar at the top. It's not a task bar, it contains nothing useful. There's "activities" on the left, a few settings icons on the right, and 90% of the space is wasted in the middle by showing the current date/time. It's also no Menu bar as on the Mac. If you open a program, it has one entry for the program with contains nothing useful, but the window's menu bar is still inside the window. (If at all. Most gnome stuff just has a hamburger menu because having menus is bad.) So it contains no useful functionality from either the Windows or Mac role models.
You have to click "activities" first before it opens a Mac-like dock on the left. Yay, extra clicks... The dock already contrains Firefox, a file browser, some dumb help app, and a "Software" app store thingy, which of course isn't a package manager and doesn't find packages. Because fuck you, that's why. There's also atic-tac-toe3x3 dots icon to open something like a dashboard for more programs. At least the shitty gnome terminal is already placed in the dock so that's only 2 clicks and lots of mouse movent away.
Which brings me to the application's title bars. There are no minimize and maximize buttons!?! You can maximized by double clicking and I guess there's no point for minimize because this thing has no taskbar anyway?! And of course to switch between windows I need another 2 clicks, activities first to reach an overview of open windows. (I can't Alt-Tab because that is handled by my desktop outside the VM).
That the installer decided to not automatically connect to the LAN was, at this point, merely worth a shrug. What the fuck is this shit? No wonder nobody wants to use Linux if they end up getting Gnome all over them.
Someone should
rm -rf
the whole Gnome environment and put the developers in the loony bin.
-
@topspin as a linux user of 25 years or so, I wholeheartedly agree. Gnome is horrible and I want it to die in a fire. It would be nice if it took Ubuntu and systemd with it.

This morning, my alarm clock went off, I got up and started doing all the things I normally do in the morning. Hmmm ... seems a little darker than usual today.
After I've been up for a few minutes I notice the time. 4:45am. My alarm is set for 6:00am.
Apparently I dreamed that my alarm went off, and it woke me up.

Status: Belated WTF.
I had Lower Decks season 3 DVD in my cart at BestBuy. It was on preorder forever until one day it magically had been out a week (it wasn’t) and was now sold out. So I went to Target and it was also sold out there. How do you sell out of a fucking DVD inside of a week?
Ended up ordering it from Barnes&Noble instead.
Also it feels like everything has slowed to a crawl this year.

It must be cosmic balance for folks like me, who don't wake up while the alarm clock rings and rings.

Your neighbor had to get up at 3 AM. Because of that heathenly time, he set his alarm clock extra loud, so that it woke you up.
But, actually, what about your neighbor? Did that work for him, or did he just sleep through, as @Zerosquare uses to do?
Next step in the plot: is your neighbor...

Status: Irrationally mad at some internet rando's slightly different habits when using computers.
We’ve deliberately mapped the otherwise unused but easy-to-find PrtSc key on our Linux laptop to lock the screen instantly, reinterpreting it as a handyProtect Screen button intead of Print Screen. This means we can reliably and rapidly lock the computer with a thumb-tap every time we walk or turn away, no matter how briefly. We don’t press it unintentionally very often, but it does happen from time to time.
You have so many other useless keys. Pause Break. Scroll Lock. Insert. Num Lock. F3. Why did you pick one that actually serves a purpose and hasn't become entirely obsolete some 30 years ago?

Not that + L is at all difficult to begin with (even on Linux hardware), and something I’ve pressed unintentionally a whole zero times.
