Unless you meant the township building...

Status: Just signed up for a gym membership , because I sit on my ass all day and my noodle body is weak as fuck.
Wednesday I had an appointment with the trainer who did an initial assessment, concluding to nobody's surprise that I have both a lack of muscles and an excess of fat. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be. (Unlike 5-10 years ago, when I had just a lack of muscles but was still kind of skinny.) Well, not quite. The initial target has more fat loss than muscle gain, so a bit of an overall weight loss. Also made an exercise plan and showed me the machines for the initial set of exercises, for the next eight weeks.
Today I went for my first round of exercises alone.
Wow. That was boring as fuck. And there's people who actually enjoy that?
Human biology is stupid, why is this even necessary?!

I go to volleyball semi-regularly, that is very much fun and I enjoy it. I used to go to some fitness course (mostly running, body weight exercises, etc.) every now and then, but didn't get around to that since probably a year. That is much less fun than volleyball, but still more fun than this.

It's all psychological. Or something. I'm not broken in such a way that exercise is fun. Maybe some day....

I go to my local Parkrun weekly more often than not. If I speak to other people it's before or after and definitely not during, but it's still enjoyable enough for me keep doing it. I find the same distance in the gym on a treadmill so boring.
Like the classes there's something about doing something as part of a group even if it's just random people that makes it better than the same thing on your own.inb4 someone finds a way of quoting this out of context

Status: Friday evening, thunderstorm has just started.
Is that different from last Friday?
Perhaps: temperature is still 16°C.: Exactly, except the temperature is 28°C.
Edit: We have a severe thunderstorm warning in effect for about the next half-hour, and a severe thunderstorm watch until 21:00, i.e., the next 4 hours and 15 minutes. Yay. At least there isn't a tornado watch. Yet.

Status: Also watched both AntMan and the Wasp: Quantumania and Shazam: Fury of the Gods. The usual internet critics hated them but I thought they were fine. Don't get me wrong, I hate woke shit too, but I think they were reaching here. The "wokest" thing with Quantumania was Cassie Lang being both a girl and important to the plot. She wasn't insufferable. As for Shazam, I don't know what they were on about. Other than not recognizing the villains, because I never followed Captain Marvel, it made sense and even how they linked it to the previous movie was pretty smart. No it's not something I'll watch a hundred times but I wouldn't turn off the TV in disgust either.

People say the first step is the hardest. That's wrong.
The hardest step is always the next step. It's just harder if you're not maintaining a streak.
Where was I going with this?
Oh right. It doesn't get less boring. But it becomes easier, and even pleasant in a way after a while.
Just don't expect your brain to tell you that, because it's not your brain that's getting exercised. And your muscles will complain initially. But you'll get there eventually, if you keep at it.I haven't been to a gym since the start of the pandemic. But I've been doing a few push-ups when coming out of bed. It was terrible doing even just one, at first, but now it's becoming almost second nature doing 8 or 10 first thing in the morning.

Now sing this to Sheryl Crow. Or Cat Stevens, if you prefer.

But it works. At least if it's done well.
Unfortunately, Duolingo did it badly. At first, it was fun. You competed for internet pointz with your friends, and you could choose to compete with a "club" of people learning the same language. Then they changed it to competing against the entire user base, including people who, apparently, spend 24 hours a day studying their own native language, so you have zero chance of winning. And penalizing you if you fail to earn enough pointz, but not for skipping the week entirely, so that it's better to not study at all than to study if you can't make the full commitment to rack up as many pointz as possible, and if you are trying to rack up pointz, study what you already know rather than spending the time learning something new, since you lose pointz for making errors.

Or your alternator is not charging it.
If you have a multimeter, jump start the truck and check that the battery is receiving 13 to 15v DC

16 is good enough for me. The last ounce or 2 sometimes cools off a bit too much.
I'm on stage 2 now - as in a 2nd mug!

Stupid township. There's somebody whose only job seems to be driving around town measuring grass height and writing letters/fines over it.

Thankfully, I haven't gotten a fine. I have gotten a nasty "if that isn't fixed by XXX, we will do it for you and make you pay"
-
@Zenith Sometimes I get the impression that the US with their HOAs is even more fashist than Germany. Here, I'd just show them regarding lawn height (well, not too literally, as that would be an offense, but you get it).
But, here in , we have many stupid regulations, too. The county may tell you the shape and the angles of your house's roof, force you to plant a tree from a list of specified trees, etc.
But when I prefer a flower meadow over a lawn, they have bad luck, they cannot do that.

@BernieTheBernie said in The Official Status Thread:

In my case, there is no HOA. It's just city ordinances. (weed control)

@Gribnit You wanna say that german nazis who managed to make it into the US then went on to become lawn fashists for HOAs or municipal administrations?

@BernieTheBernie Should make Interpol and the FBI feel stupid for all the time wasted searching for Hitler and Friends in South America.
