Yes, but the daily Dilbert emails are not. Not yet, at least. Maybe tomorrow morning?

You seem to misunderstand how modern retail works, old timer.

@izzion Indeed, as I know only too well, it is no longer a single physical day, but an amorphous period of time lasting anywhere up to 4.58 days ahead of 'the day' and lasting up to 3.26 days after 'the day' for the express purpose of weaponised FOMO in the name of expedited capitalism.

Amateurs. I've seen some Black Friday deals at the end of October already, and I just received a leaflet about Black Friday home internet offer that ends December 5.

Also. I remember one radio commercial this year announced some store is having "Black Month sale". It took me a moment to figure out whether it's holiday or political.

@Gustav Outliers exist but cannot be relied upon.

@Arantor I also bought a model year 2022 car in July 2021.

Yes.
Of course, given your ... reputation, choosing one of those actions may negate the previous statement and make the other course of action impossible.

@HardwareGeek When I started running out of space, on an Android 5ish phone, I had to whittle down my apps because most of them couldn't be moved (or reinstalled) to the SD card. I mean you get 16GB, Android itself takes 4GB, and then stuff like Nintendo's Mii app take up 1GB while your other apps drift from 20MB to 1GB over time. At this point I might have a dozen left that didn't come with the phone. Chrome (vomit), Square, PayPal, an NES emulator, a voice analyzer, a file browser, a dragon radar, USPS estimator, WinZip, and TransFormers Angry Birds.

My biggest problem (apart from
unreliable battery performanceunreliable battery performance and unreliable network connectivityunreliable battery performance, unreliable network connectivity, and Android crashing unpredictablyunreliable battery performance, unreliable network connectivity, Android crashing unpredictably, and the time it takes to reboot ... I'll come in again) is that Android frequently complains that storage space is running out, but the memory management app shows only about half the memory in use. I read somewhere that Android has a known memory leak, and the only way to recover the lost memory is a factory reset. The trouble with that is it means I have to either back up my data to the Google cloud or use a 3rd-party app to back it up locally, and I trust either of them with my data about as far as I can throw them.

@HardwareGeek Same here. If the 3G/4G switchover hadn't pushed me, the damned thing chewing through batteries like crazy eventually would have.
Status: God damn are cars expensive now. First steady job out of school, I preordered basically the top Mustang you could get without going Shelby. $32K. Run the pricing tool on a pretty basic Wrangler and they want $41K. Nissan Z is up at $43K. Subarus all have these weird shark fins in lieu of an antenna on top of starting in the mid $30Ks. Can't even buy American because I don't want another Mustang and they hardly make any cars anymore (their entire lineups are SUVs). It's kind of terrifying to look at an $800/month payment for five years.

@Zenith said in The Official Status Thread:

Good news! They solved that by forcing you to buy new every two years because the battery can't be trivially replaced anymore!
-
@Zenith said in The Official Status Thread:

When I needed to buy a new car at the beginning of this year, I bought the cheapest little 12-year old Honda subcompact I could find on Carmax. It was just barely less than the last brand-new car I bought in ... 2005-ish (?).

It was a failure to clean up installation packages. They'd just hang around taking up space while being owned by a special user that meant effectively nobody could find them or delete them. And it only affected some Android builds; my tablet never had the problem.
They appear to have fixed that.

New mattress meant to arrive today. Old mattress was taken away, new mattress delivery phoned to tell me that they couldn’t deliver because they were at the door and no one answered and they’d already left.
You fucks, you went to the wrong door in spite of my delivery notes, buzzed and got no answer because they’re at work and then fucked off.
So now I have no mattress and they can’t even tell me if they can redeliver tomorrow.

The alfalfa is from a story in Catch 22, but I heard somewhere else that these subsidies are still in place. You must own land and notify some federal agency that you're planning to plant something of which there's a glut on the market. Then they will pay you to not plant that thing.
-
@sebastian-galczynski look at it, this is the field in which I grow my TikTokers.
-
Meeting adjourned, until next week. There are so many ideas. Should our system report the things that are not in it, or maybe it's their system that can fudge the numbers based on what should be? But then what if the field gets flooded? Does it still count as not planting alfalfa, or as simply not planting anything?
-

The Irish went one further and paid farmers not to plant anything.
