Status: Today was a sunny and warm autumn day (20°C / 70°F). But a working day.
Tomorrow, I won't work. Weather forecast:
About 12 mm or half an inch.
Status: Rain stopped yesterday around noon. Ca. 35 mm / 1.5 inches.
That is, the weather achieved a 300% fulfilment of plan.
The polit buro is envious.

I hear they got rid of CRX - is it still even OSGi or did their crusade vs sanity succeed completely?

@topspin Didn't we blacklist yarn a million years ago to stop it from auto playing with audio when it wasn't even on screen yet? What happened to that?
-
@hungrier weirdly it doesn't always autoplay which if we did blacklist it sounds about right for NodeBB

One of the nice things Microsoft did was the clipboard. Try Meta+C next time!

Being a Windows guy, I never know what particular key combination and/or mouse operation will work on a particular terminal window.

Status: Annoyed.
In another episode of "How Did That Happen?" I dug up some silver coins from two different places in the house. Both have tarnishing, even though both sets were in plasric and one set was in a box and wrapped in more plastic. This was after I ran over that Han Solo that was stored nowhere near my computer chair with my computer chair.

When in "Quick Edit" mode, clicking the console window will begin selection. Pressing Enter will copy the selected text. Right-clicking cancels selection (if selection is in progress) and right-clicking when no selection is selected will paste text from the clipboard.
-
@Tsaukpaetra Yes. All one needs to know is at a glance whether it's a Command Line or Powershell window, whether Quick Edit mode is on or not in this computer, a MinGW window, a Windows Terminal window, and which ways to interact work with each. Very simple.
-
@Gribnit said in The Official Status Thread:

I've seen software for which that phrase could be used correctly. It was converted to be based on OSGi to increase the sanity level. OSGi is definitely on crazy juice, but only comes with a -2 SAN penalty.

And it's just in terminal windows - elsewhere it's CTRL+C to copy and CTRL+SHIFT+C may or may not do something else.
But in terminals CTRL+C to abort is older.

Doesn't matter.

It is enabled by default and nobody knows where to change it except the sadistic. Who is hurting you?

About as simple as any other computer program, really. Conventions are a happy accident.

For fuck's sake, it just auto-played for me!
-

Maybe it doesn't, but my experience tells me sometimes I can use Ctrl+V and sometimes I can't. Maybe it depends on OS version?
@Tsaukpaetra said in The Official Status Thread:

The people who accidentally click console windows of programs which aren't supposed to freeze.
Yes, is server-like processes running under console windows., but .

I mean, if MS is too incompetent to not do that, what do you expect from everyone else?
(Log in to an account for the first time and see a bunch of console windows pop up. Better hope the user doesn't click the X.)

I like how it is on macOS: Cmd+C to copy, Ctrl+C to break.

@dkf it’s just a shame that so many other keyboard shortcuts on macOS are
Like locking the machine on Windows is Win+L, short, memorable, easy to hit. But Mac? Control+Cmd+Q, less memorable, certainly more of a pain to type.
Or, want to take a screenshot? That’s 3 or 4 keys depending on “all the screen” or “let me select part of the screen” and whether “save it to disk” or “put it into the clipboard”, and it’s deeply unintuitive like Shift+Control+Cmd+4 for “let me select part of the screen and copy it to clipboard”.
-

Don't misremember it as Shift+Command+Q because that logs you out.
-
@loopback0 the only reason I even know this shortcut is because we had the mandatory “we do secure things for clients, don’t leave your laptop unlocked” and I needed to figure out the keyboard shortcut for locking.
Fortunately for me the shortcut is so awkward for me to type left handed that I use my right hand and muscle memory makes it easier to not get this wrong (index finger on Control, thumb on Cmd and middle finger on Q)
From a security perspective though, I should teach my padawan that combination instead.

I just tried typing it with my right hand and it's way more awkward than with my left.
-
@loopback0 I dunno, I just can’t seem to get my left hand to comfortably do that, the right hand just reaches the spot comfortably.

I use BetterTouchTool, mostly to enable middle clicking with a three-finger click on the trackpad, but also to lock the screen with a four finger downward swipe

Mac keyboards don’t have keys they consider useless. Like page up/dn.

The most useless key is Caps Lock, do they have that?

@topspin and yet they have the +/- key that also has § on it, a key I have never intentionally touched in over a decade of Mac exposure.
