Status: Slaughtering duplicate classes. I don't need four copies of effectively the same thing (exact same underlying model). Discovered that I was using another class for two different purposes too, which was always going to be trouble. (It was a bit like having an area measurement class where it was implicitly using either inches or feet, without saying which, except it was using a different metric that makes conversion a lot more tricky.)

Are you sure it is a
frog
? What about atoad
?
Anyway, in California, both of them are fish .Regardless the distinction, barring spontaneous generation it's very strange for one to appear out of nowhere.

It is not aware of your location. You should kill Network Location Awareness service and (let it) start again.

It seems to have found itself again, no thanks to me.
I'm slightly disappointed.

status okay! Ignoring the obvious iam stuff I may be able to build this. Not going to make release, though I’m going to need a map and a yellow brick road to document it.

Status: grocery shop was booked for 11am-3pm (I don’t know why Sainsburys has now adopted this setup, it wasn’t this way a couple of weeks ago) but despite the 4 hour window, they just texted me to say “sorry we’re running late, we’ll try to be with you at 15:35”
Which is, by my clock, 2 minutes from now, which sort of makes the text well worth it.

This is going to be D&D once they move to the new D&Done model. Calling it now. Your character sheet will radically change out from under you without warning, possibly during a session.

A lot of the mods have been updated already, and the updates have been released throughout the day. It seems the authors had updates already in testing, but couldn't release them until the game update was released (which happened today, but with no prior announcement of when it would occur). At least the ones that were generating errors for me have been updated.
TIL there is a mod compatibility checker, which itself is a mod. (It runs when you launch the game or can be run manually from the content manager; however, viewing the report from within Steam locks up the game UI, and it has to be killed from the taskbar.) It hasn't been updated to check for compatibility with the new game patch.

Status: having some motivation issues to work on a project, so obviously the solution is to expand the scope several times over.

Status: Internet and cable have been out most of the day. Life has no meaning.
-
@Arantor With the kind of shit you’ve been dealing with lately, I bet your motivation left you somewhere around 1975.
-
@stillwater it also doesn’t help that the project in question is an interesting idea that necessitates a reasonably complicated UI that feels overkill for the job at hand. Curiously, expanding the scope actually mitigates this problem a bit.

Status: TreeStyleTabs disappeared. According to the browser console an auto-update failed.

status I should know better than to open emails on a Friday from the outsourced crowd.
Back at the beginning of the year I was tasked with coding a feature. Tested locally worked fine. Tested in test and a not so far flung edge case presented itself. Problem examined and fix dutifully dispatched. Test kicked the tires and nothing else presented itself and okayed to production.
A couple months back a far flung edge case popped up. The outsourced crowd were told exactly how to fix it by someone else but discovered that if they reverted my fix it would work. They asked me if it would be okay to revert it. I said test for not so far flung edge case.
They obviously haven’t. They’re sending me pictures of the logs from prod of a familiar stack trace. Why do they always send images of the logs? It takes less effort to copy and paste.
I think I’ll put a video tutorial on in the background and start my weekend chores.

@DogsB DUDE!!! I AM THE OURSOURCED CROWD and even I do not open mails from the outsourced crowd on fridays! You gotta be super careful with shit like this and yes we love screenshots!!!!! I'm just happy someone else suffers the way I do. Alcohol helps btw.

Previously, it would occasionally do this, but could be restored to the compact design by hiding and unhiding the sidebar, but now it seems like it's permanently stuck in fat-finger tablet mode

It does that automatically if the user's age is above some threshold.

Status Xcode can go @#$@# it's #@$#$%# git implementation with a rusty purple cluebat. It can't even handle trivial merge conflicts to its own generated storyboard XML, giving up and saying "the whole file's changed, good luck figuring out what part". So I opened that file in VSCode and it was one identifier (that doesn't actually matter at runtime, just at design time) that had changed. Which it does every time you open the storyboard file. You @#$@#$ hack program, why do you have to be so user hostile. @#$#@$ you.

I've found that if I do any git operations outside of xcode with xcode open, it throws a huge fit and you have to go and manually delete the caches it strews across the drive in random places. And heaven help you if a dependency changed in the incoming commit.
So using an external git client means that I have to close out the project, do the git operation, then reopen the project.
XCode is hell in program form.

More XCode hell, this time with tests:
Consider the following lines, where XCTAssert* is the (ultra verbose, annoying) default test/assertion framework for Swift
let nextAlarm = (...something that resolves to nil) XCTAssertNotNil(nextAlarm) XCTAssertEqual(occurrenceStart.timeIntervalSince1970, nextAlarm!.timeIntervalSince1970, accuracy: 1)
Where would you expect it to fail? Line 2, right?
nil
is obviously notnil
. Nope. It fails on the force unwrap in line 3. Xcode can't even assert right!Edit: found in a random google result:
In your tests you are checking at various locations optionals not to be nil by passing them to the XCTAssertNotNil function. Unfortunally the function is unable to process Swift optionals and will threat even nil-optionals as not-nil. For this reason #187 is crashing and not failing, because first the optional is checked and then force-unwrapped. Another option to check optionals to be nil should be considered, for example as mentioned in this blogpost.
