Again I trudge into the office, determined to get something done. Alas, Confluence (which holds the Requirements) is down.

@error and at this point in the day you canāt even blame it on CloudFlare.

Status: Feeling charitable, but only so much. Back when I was trying to dump eBay, I would post lists of toys at 1/2 to 2/3 of the price on a collector board, hoping for a quick(er) sale. What invariably happens is three years later, when market value has skyrocketed, people start asking if I still have stuff (and what version, because there have often been variants released since I listed). Usually I just ignore them but today I decided to tell somebody I had sold what they wanted for twice the price. I don't think I actually did sell it but there's no compelling reason for me to dig it up before the August show for such a lowball price plus the joys of shipping to Canuckistan to boot.

Today I leaned that CodeWarrior now defaults to stripping object information from executables. Even when importing legacy projects. And here I was wondering why debugging stopped working after I got a new laptop.
-
Update:
It still doesn't debug. But this time I have even less clues as to the cause.

: Huh... where's all my stuff?
: You paid us to take everything. There's an extra charge for putting it back.

Status: some things are moved in, furniture bending of Richard MacDuff levels has been accomplished, just waiting for the rest of the van to be unloaded.
The road has double yellow lines. Someone explicitly phoned the council to complain that the moving van was there longer than its designated 10 minutes. I guess when I move out I will have to figure out how to get a permit for this.

@Tsaukpaetra these aren't the same person, are they?
As far as things to name a baby go, "Kshitija Thang" is actually among the more sensical.

@Tsaukpaetra Wait till you find out about one named "Tsaukpaetra"

@Tsaukpaetra but also āyouāre trying to upload a document that has the same name as one on the serverāā¦ because thatās not a solved problem or anything.
-
@Arantor not for Excel.
-
@topspin Excel actually has a reason for it, itās a stupid reason but it has a reason (namely for resolving multi-spreadsheet links, if for some reason youāre bold enough to do that, where the names have to be unique because the underlying linkage is done on filename not full path)
Whatās Sharepointās excuse?

Ahhhh shazbot. We called the internet people last week to move the booking from yesterday to today.
Today is not Thursday 24th June.
Guess Iām still tethering then.

Why? Unless you're doing a full tech install what would it matter?
-
@Tsaukpaetra the physical phone line to the property requires an engineer to reconnect.
And yesterday was the madness of actually moving all the physical items from the old property ot the new property, didnāt seem like a good idea to have the engineer arrive at the same time.
-
@Arantor said in The Official Status Thread:

Again, why? You're not likely to be interacting with them either way. He walks up to the box on the side of the house, opens it, plugs in the tester, goes "can you signal me now? Good!" and walks away.

@Tsaukpaetra youād think, but my experience is less positive, especially if he decides that the modem I have needs replacing.

Or has to drill a new hole in the wall because the old wire has rotted or something.
-
@DogsB Iām more intrigued by the fact that my street ādoesnāt have Virgin cableā but there is absolutely a Virgin media box on the A flat while Iām in the B flat and we share a dividing wall and a common front doorā¦
But as long as I get reasonable internet I donāt really care which provider.

In my experience, the outside techs explicitly do not talk to you, so unless you ordered a full install, your sales rep did you dirty.

Did the premise used to be just one (like a house) that's since been split into multiple flats?
-
@loopback0 so thereās 90, 90A and 90B. 90 is the main building upstairs, A and B are basically the product of taking the basement and dividing it equally into two mirror-image flats along the length of the property and squirrelling the doors around the back with a separate street entrance to the upstairs.
Welcome to older property town!
-
@Tsaukpaetra not so much here, every house move Iāve ever done has involved speaking to the external tech and often letting them in to do a connection test. Especially in this town where multiple different sockets to the outside are common.
-

I'd almost bet money that no-one thought to add B as a serviceable but not-connected premise when connecting A. Especially if it was originally done a few years ago.
-
@Arantor my two most recent moves didn't involve a tech at all. They shipped me the hardware and I plugged it in and it automatically provisioned.
The last one didn't even involve any new hardware since I didn't change ISP.
-
-
@Benjamin-Hall in theory that should be true here because in theory it just requires two different companies talking and the second company that I have no direct connection with going to their cabinet, twiddling the wires, telling the company I do have a connection with that theyāve done it and then me just plugging the equipment in that I already have and know to work.
No house move I have done since I first moved out of my folks house in 2005 has ever gone this way. Not once.
-
Status: engineer has been (first thing he did was come in and plug something into the phone socket indoors and then go back out to the cabinet) and property has internet!
Now to reset the mesh network to ensure good coverage everywhere through the property.
-
Status: watching with quiet fascination as our new toy - an automated vacuum cleaner robot - navigates the new flat and discovers where the walls are.
Iāve never had one before but I am fascinated by its motion and capacity to navigate.
-
@Arantor But can it speak Bocce?
-
@Applied-Mediocrity not a purchasing requirement.
We have named it Roach and look forward to crafting a Lego-minifig-sized Geralt of Rivia that can ride it around the house.
