Dunno. What do you think?

A favorite arcade moment: was playing on an 8-player machine set with a few other people I didn't know. Another player started bumping my car as we were coming around towards the start/finish line. I turned away a bit and then slammed back into him...which shoved him into the pit lane. The computer took over (Daytona USA has auto pitting) so he lost half a lap while the rest of us raced on.

Did you zero out the free space? Don't want to compress ghosts....

Status: Necro upvoted random stuff in the status thread because I touched the damn thread navigation scroll bar thingy and it threw me back into 2019.
If only that worked in real life.

@PleegWat You're probably using Implicit or Hybrid flow. Those are for thick clients or SPAs that can't keep secrets anywhere. Using a different flow -- one involving your client secret, I'd think -- might get you multiple codes.

But compressing them is how you capture them. I think you need to brush up on your Venkman.

It does, you just touch the scrollorola, go to an old page, and vote.

The latter one makes sense. It takes an alien to find an alien!
-
It's funny because I read the second title in the voice of Father Sarducci from SNL.
Coulda Goud help us finda spacuh aliens?

Status: My son sent me an email at 11:02:59. My ISP delivered it to me at 18:47:47. Although, looking at the headers further, not my ISP's fault; it was stuck inside Yahoo! for all but the last 7 seconds of that time. (Edit: No, not a time zone problem; I converted everything to my local time zone. Time sent was already local (-0600); some intermediate time stamps are UTC, and some are my ISP's server's local (-0800).)
-
I didn't know your Delivery Distortion Field also affected non-physical deliveries.
-
@Zerosquare Neither did I. T-Mobile has always been flaky about delivering text messages, but I've always just blamed that on T-Mobile.
-
@HardwareGeek Text, like email, is not a guaranteed instant delivery mechanism.
In fact, the SMS protocol includes a maximum retry duration field.

When I used “it’s the most twos you’ll ever see” in Real Life, because I am nothing if not woefully unoriginal, I was criticised for that outlook instead ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It was, at least, established that I will hastily commit suicide in 2221 should it ever come to that, because excessive spite is sufficiently unoriginal.

It's like other drivers. Everyone is either stupid or crazy. The ones slower than you are stupid, and the ones faster than you are crazy.
Also you aaaaalmost got that emoticon right.

Status: God damn I hate webmail. Somehow my personal e-mail got on the same spam list as my business e-mail. Of course, because it's 2021, I have a whole two options for handling spam, route everything into the spam folder that auto-deletes in three days or nothing, which means I have to exercise a third option of hijacking rules to act as a de facto spam filter. Yet even though I can search my inbox for "purple monkey dishwater" in the sender and find these e-mails, the filter "somehow" cannot find them using a "sender contains" rule. Why is this so stupidly difficult? Isn't string-matching a solved problem yet? It's almost as bad as trying to find something on a store website that shows anything that contains any of the letters in your search terms...

@DogsB I'm mildly amazed they just straight up went 'no trains for 10 days' or whatever. It smelled almost like planning.
I've quite enjoyed for the last 4 years not having to get a train to work.

Status: I really hate web forms that validate as you type and reject your text before you finish typing it. E.g., a phone number must be formatted
(123) 456-7890
, but it rejects(123)
because it doesn't contain the required-
. Also, it doesn't tell you ahead of time what format it expects, so if you try to enter the other common format,123-456-7890
, it rejects123-456-
because it doesn't match###-####
. (Yes, it still accepts 7-digit numbers, or at least it claims to.) The only way I've found to successfully complete such a form is to try typing the number (so it tells you what it expects when you don't format it correctly), then delete it, type it in notepad, and copy-pasta from notepad to the web form.

I saw a non civil service development job come up for the first time in years and decided to find out what the difference between it and civil service are. For some background, the difference used to be a civil service test, until the civil service commission was abolished so we can hire the boss's unqualified friends or hot mistress just like the private sector. So, anyway, I'm on the state's site where the the FAQ goes "blah blah blah, civil service requires a civil service test, blah blah blah, same rules and pay scales, blah blah blah" and there's a form to submit additional questions. I put in "now that we don't have civil service tests, what's the difference between them?"
Guess what the answer I received was!
Yes, a response!
"per the FAQ, blah blah blah, civil service requires a civil service test, blah blah blah, same rules and pay scales, blah blah blah, thank you"
In other news, the job site is broken again. They have a file upload, but you can't directly manage it in CURRENT_YEAR, so it just keeps the last 10 files. Or so I thought. I've been filling out a ton of applications that are effective demotions. Demotions require a letter acknowledging that blah blah reduced pay blah blah. Guess what my "previous uploads" dropdownlist looks like.
Oh and here's a
, the job I discovered this on wants a cover letter. The last year or so every posting has told us not to attach a resume because
nepotismit can't be considered. Does anybody do cover letters anymore or is this just more government stupidity?

Status: Watching the live stream of the MN Sheriff who streams his patrols. Not 5 minutes into the stream, a reckless (and, it turns out, intoxicated) driver passed them at an unsafe speed, lost control, ran off the road, took out a tree then crashed into a building, and fled on foot. He might have then tried to report the car as having been stolen. Great start to New Year's Eve. Especially for Mr. DUI Guy.

The pink one is Pinkie Pie, she's a hyperactive always-optimist. The white one is Rarity, usually the one being skeptical and down-to-earth.
would be much better choice, more consistent with the characters.
-
@Gąska You know more about those fictional ponies than I would have expected of you.
-
@Gąska No, Applejack's down to Earth and Rarity's a prissy rich girl, but I picked the icons based on the expression and not the character.
