Status: Bought a pack of used USB DOMs.
Plugged one in, curious what was installed...
Apparently it's version 7.
Half tempted to shove it in a computer and see what it does...
It's apparently a disk for changing Citrix ADC appliances around.
Nifty?

I've never played a single one. It's just looked quite nice in the shitload of ads youtube has spammed me with, unlike every single other thing they advertise.
(Although having seen it in an ad should make me not buy it out of principle)Started playing the demo. Know why it’s called Dread know, as I’ve been running through the first EMMI zone like a mad-man.
However, now I’m stuck in an area where I can’t find a way to get to either of the two paths I can see on the map and can’t seem to go back to the EMMI either.

It’s easy… you just go back to the Home Screen and start a new save file

No, no. First you have to wait until it finishes downloading and installing the latest updates

@hungrier I can't jump out of the water there to reach the ledge. (Or I'm doing something wrong)

@topspin That ledge should be low enough to grab onto from the water. I think the game is very good about never letting you get permanently stuck somwehere

@hungrier I'll try later.

Twice now (once this morning) it had issues where network connectivity was extremely bad. Speed test suggested something like 50k bandwith, but other devices on the same network confirm that the router is connected at 50Mbps.
Mine does this too - although a speed test usually shows 20-30Mbps and turning the WiFi on/off fixes it and it goes back to the proper speed for a while.
It's the difference between:
and after quickly turning the WiFi off and straight back on
-
@loopback0 interesting that for you too it’s only downstream that’s ed while upstream seems normal.
Now if mine would get itself together from turning WiFi off instead of rebooting, that’d be a step forward. 😒
-
@topspin it's made a bigger difference to the upload before. Either way they better fix it soon.

Status: I have the target system and... No, it did not do the needful.
Status: Doing some needful and possibly wearing down the DOM by needless rewriting because figuring out how to install grub is apparently nightmarish, so using the install CD to install and then restoring the system partition.
This partially worked, insomuch that the initramdisk booted, but then it couldn't find its root partition (which is strange, apparently mounting /boot is paramount to booting the system, even though it's already booted?).
So, I un-fucked the /etc/fstab file ( a little, it's still referencing some missing drives, because natch I don't have them as they're still in use) and now preparing to walk through the configuration xml file to unfuck some other things.
In other news, anyone know how to skip mdadm from wasting two minutes scanning for a RAID array that shouldn't (and doesn't) exist?

Edit: Also, fuck you Chrome. But now there are stupid "share this page" icons embedded in the address bar because that was surely an urgent needful.

status: I think i found someone from my Earth, but now I'm pissed.
I have a system that's been under India's wing (remotely) for constant unreproducable BSODs that they're blaming on a particular program (because said program was apparently the last thing touching anything when it crashes).
Do a meme check. FAILED. apparently some 2MB is broken near the end of the addressable memory.
Do they want to get a new RAM stick and see if that fixes it? Fuck no!
Even after demonstrating how easy it it to crash the system by simply opening a notepad on a large enough file a few times, they'd rather fuck around with trying to see if it happens when there's no internet and if the problem happens when the program isn't installed.
Newsflash: yes. Yes it does. Thanks for giving me two days of fuckery! 😇

Have you gotten to the stage where you've started accessing the rest API directly instead of the library and after that just reading the data directly from the db? I didn't actually get brave enough to write to it directly except through monkey patching sometimes.

I started with the direct REST API — that's what the project docs talk about — but I'm using the library now for most of it (need a direct call for initialising the first token exchange). That's not the problem. The problem is that Keycloak's been set up to use all one-time keys (their provided utility for managing this isn't available to me for some reason) and that means I need to implement a key management solution even before I can actually start using anything. And there's an awful lot of options in the application descriptor that are extremely poorly described. Some are passed through to directly program some stuff on the back-end (not sure what) and others propagate to applications non-trivially. And some… I can't tell if I need them or not.
It's all horrible.
-
@dkf Also, I can't just read the info straight out of the DB. I don''t have access to that DB at all (it's run by some people in Germany I think; it's a project resource).

Probably for the best. We were using it for user federation and quickly discovered we couldn't bend it to our needs. The solution... use keycloak and whatever we could cobble together. It wasn't a complete disaster but it sometimes made life unnecessarily interesting.

Status: my throne remains unchallenged!

Status: I have this code:
// In A: definition of Whatever::Foo<T> struct Whatever { template <typename T> struct Foo { /* ... */ }; // ... }; // in B: we'll use that quite a bit, define an alias here template <typename T> using Foo = Whatever::Foo<T>; // in C: use it here Foo<int> foo(computeFoo());
I changed the return type of
computeFoo
and then this failed to compile, as expected, because I also need to change the template parameter ofFoo<int>
there.: But wait, I could use some new-ish features like class template argument deducation and get rid of the template parameters completely. So if I instead declare it just as
Foo foo
my original change would cause it to correctly deduce a different type and everything works without touching anything. So let's try that...
error: alias template requires template arguments; argument deduction only allowed for class templates
Fuuuck, it works when I write
Whatever::Foo
but not with justFoo
. This language is hacks all the way down.

STATUS my surface is getting to the three-year mark, so it's at the lifespan where I can justify upgrading. The problem is, should I upgrade in place with a surface eight or make the jump to apple with the iPad pro. It's primarily media consumption and occasionally light admin. I also do a lot of writing on it. The only gaming I do on it is retroarch. Has anyone else done this?

Either option seem overkill for what you're using them for but I'd go for the iPad Pro.
Retroarch might be more faff on an iPad though, you'll probably need something like AltStore (which doesn't need jailbreak).

I felt okay on Sunday. I felt okayish yesterday. I felt decent a couple hours ago. Now I want to rip my head off, it hurts so much.
The first doctor I called rejected me because they're not my PCP.
The second doctor rejected me because they require introductory visit first and I have to schedule 6 weeks in advance.
Currently at the third doctor. Already paid 50 bucks so they better not reject me. In Poland, $50 got me double toenail surgery and checkup next week, without insurance.

@Gąska said in The Official Status Thread:

Yeah. My previous doctor, in CA, that first visit was a full "annual" physical, so it makes sense why it had to be scheduled so far in advance (in that case, it was more like 8 or 9 weeks, IIRC). That takes a lot longer than a normal office visit, there aren't many appointments for the longer-duration visits, and all the appointments in the near future are already booked.
For my new one, in TX, I only had to book ~4 weeks ahead, but it turned out not be a full physical; that will be January, at the earliest. The first visit was just reviewing my health history, renewing some prescriptions I'd been out of since I moved, and referrals for labs and stuff.
If you don't already have a PCP (or you do but can't get a timely appointment), that's where urgent care comes in handy. Cheaper than an emergency room, maybe less wait, and maybe more thorough exam, since they're not dealing with life-and-death emergencies.
-
@HardwareGeek the thing is, my employer changed insurance company so by the time of the visit it won't even be my doctor anymore.
In Poland, I can just go anywhere with anything, as long as I luck out in the morning phone call lottery. I thought a more civilized country would be... well, more civilized.
