Status: apparently voicemail-to-email (non transcription) has been broken since beginning of last week.
No problem, we'll submit a ticket!
They apparently decided to add a VERY different voicemail to the account instead, which promptly synced some 500 voicemail messages from the past three months (and seemingly ongoing).
Outlook is.... Unhappy.

Has tried this thing called "waking up" and "mornings". Not a fan.

Outlook has begun filtering said messages into the Junk folder.
I sense good times ahead when the normal people get in...

Actually listening to some of them.

They appear to not even belong to this group!
What the fuck!

I don't mind the "mornings" part, but usually nothing good comes from "waking up". It goes downhill 5 times out of 7.

What the fuck!Oh. Apparently they just used that voicemail box to test with.
Could they have picked one that DIDN'T have half a thousand emails to do it with?!? Holy Shit.....
-
They figured out "there are already half a thousand messages in this one, a few more won't make any difference"

Hey, just because the top-level inbox is five gigs doesn't mean we need more!

It's been December for only one hour and Google logo already has Christmas lights. Somehow I find it even more annoying than that one time they completely forgot Easter exists.

Poland attempted snow twice this year. Didn't stick, sorry.
We'll regroup and try again later.

The colour of the next line looks different to me.
Really? They look the same to me.
I'm convinced they're different.
You on the latest?
Yeah.
Try inspecting them and tell me what you see.
Both lines are in the same div, and they have the same colour value.
Try changing it to #ffff00.
Oh! They changed colour.
Change it back to #ff0000.
Oh! They still look different, but it's okay.

Maybe she's using a TN LCD screen. They usually have some kind of top-to-bottom gradual color shift. Someone with good color discrimination can possibly see a difference.

Maybe. I have bitched on this forum about different screens having different colour reproduction and pointing out they stipulated the RGB values, and I can change them if they like.

Depending on genetics, while men have 2 or 3 women can have up to 5 different types of colour receptors in their eyes.

@topspin Something little I miss about my last good development job was making the application logo show animated snow in December.

Oh no you don't. Get your erotic genetic science talk out of the status thread. Every time you go on a tangent I'm run out of the thread for a few days.

I now have the sudden urge to procrastinate more productively1 and do this in our about dialog.1 Because I have a bunch of deadlines coming up and I have turned into this:

@topspin I am in this post.

@topspin It's not the site I used to use, but searching "add snow effect to picture" bought back https://funny.pho.to/falling-snow/ that seems to do the trick.

I found that one and also https://www12.lunapic.com/editor/?action=snow. Similar effect, just a bit different.
Status: Thanks to @Zenith and @Applied-Mediocrity I now have a snow fall animation over the logo.
Of course, in true fashion, this involved a bit of hackery. The "logo" is actually a QLabel widget with a combination of text and an image, i.e. not just a single image, so I couldn't just put the effect on that. Instead I wanted to overlay a transparent snow fall image over the whole thing. And since the website couldn't handle transparent input, I had to upload a blank green image and then add transparency from chroma key in gimp.
Oh, and of course the QLabel can handlestyle="background-image: url('foo.gif');"
, but that doesn't work with animated GIFs. So instead I actually overlayed a distinct QLabel with the animation over the logo by putting it in the same layout cell (). But hey, it's for the greater good, right?Remaining questions: snow fall behind or in front of the logo (less or more "in your face", respectively)? And what date range to trigger it?
Right now I'm going with "in front" and "last two december weeks."
-
@topspin said in The Official Status Thread:

Seems fair enough.
Just remember to put a reminder to check what broke because the fucking image has snowflakes overlaid. 🙃

Status It turns out that even if you build the new containers, you also need to deploy them to the dev environment before the changes will show up.

Yes. Simply building does not actually give changes to the containers. Even stopping and restarting doesn't apply changes (they'll just be using the last image hash thing).
We live in a society!

But just to state the obvious: it was a joke.

Jesus Christ some people are hecking stupid.
I just got treated to a lengthy screed on another forum about how Web3 is the future, and that forums as a whole aren't dead but might as well be because none of the forums are modern software because they rely on 'legacy behaviours' such as 'making a request and waiting for a response', but also the semantic and intelligent future we have ahead of us isn't being brought into forums, though it is being integrated into Discord.
Yes, apparently Discord is the future of forums.
Oh, and Rails and NodeJS are superior in every single way to PHP and no-one writes insecure apps in them while literally every single PHP application ever written is insecure to the point that they are all "laughably trivial to breach by even novice bad actors" (their words)
I mean, a lot of crap is written in PHP but in recent times it's no better or worse than any other language for bad code.
-
@Arantor said in The Official Status Thread:

I am interested in the non-legacy behavior in which, apparently, you get a response before making a request.
-
@HardwareGeek no, no, that's not how it works. We're all about the decentralised now and in particular the encouraged behaviour of asynchronous everything.
You see, these legacy platforms rely on "still-asynchronous-but-synchronizing" technologies and apparently the blockchain doesn't therefore it is superior. But also something something 'connective intelligence'.
I should probably take more of it to the NFT thread because it's sort of laughable nonsense related to that.

Decentralized and asynchronous. Like Usenet?
-
@HardwareGeek there's a longish post in the Lounge where you can see all the buzzwords being thrown around.
What's clear to me is that these people are hellbent on completing the circle of life - the systems long centralised must divide, the systems long decentralised must unite, thus it has ever been - by reinventing what there used to be, badly, with all of the downsides and none of the upsides, and with extra downsides.
-
@Arantor I hate hipsters so much and just want to get away from them. The more they take over though, the sooner it seems I'll be cut off from all human contact. I already lost a ton of connections by refusing to get into Facebook and not far from dumping LinkedIn.
Edit: yeah, yeah, and nothing of value was lost...

Status: How much you want to bed that IdentityNow is made by the same assholes that made ServiceNow?
Anyways, I'm apparently going to be emailed weekly until I get logged into this Access Depot place.
Guess what happens when I try Step 1 (Create a password)?
If you guessed "Oops, something wrong!", you owe me $267.
No, what you're actually supposed to do is skip that entirely and just go to log into it. Then, because it's Microsoft Account based, it redirects you to the federated login, and then eventually you're in.
What the fuck?!
Well, hope it's all I needed to do, I hate being mandated to follow invalid instructions...

Yup, always cycling. How many devices nowadays are just dumb terminals that connect to the Cloud in order to do anything?

I still think that Usenet of 25-35 years ago was way better than web-based forums (fora?). Except for all the binary crap of course.
