Just realized that this is essentially what you'd have to do in the various vectorized extensions (SSE/AVX at least, and seemingly NEON too). No carry information from those operations either, as far as I can see.
I could see how having explicit destinations for the carry flags would be useful (e.g., something like the predicate registers that various NVIDIA ISAs have, though they don't use it for that). But nothing at all ... that seems icky.

Status: I have an SSD. The HDD was about 15–20 minutes away, as of 01:00 this morning, so there's no good reason it couldn't have been put on a truck for delivery today, but of course can't be delivered ahead of schedule. It's possible they put it on a truck and just didn't updated the tracking info, but that would require some consideration of customer service, so unlikely.
I'll wait to install the SSD until I get the HDD and install both at the same time, so I only have to go through the inconvenience of shutting-down once. It also just occurred to me that I might want some sort of mounting hardware to hold the drives in the case. Hmm... The case already has a plastic bracket to hold the 2.5" SSD (in a bay that holds two, but only one bracket). And it looks like I just need some 6-32 screws of appropriate length for the HDD.
When UPS says a package will be delivered by 7:00 PM, they mean not a minute sooner. (Well, ok, 15 minutes, but still just barely meeting their commitment.)
Anyway, I now have the HDD as well as the SSD, so about to shut down to install them. (The SSD is already physically installed, just not electrically connected.) I have purchased appropriate (I think) 6-32 screws yet, but there really isn't anywhere for the HDD to move in the drive bay once the case is closed, and to go scrounging for screws, so I'll just let gravity and friction keep it where it belongs until screws arrive.
Also, the slow boat from China arrived with my 200m of optical fiber for lighting model train buildings. I sorta expected it to be on some kind of spools, but no, just loose coils secured by a single piece of tape apiece. It's going to be keeping them from getting tangled.
I printed some spools for the fiber. The first attempt failed because I didn't have enough resin in the printer, so only maybe 70-80% of the spools printed. Second try was mostly ok, except the holes to hold the ends of the fibers are mostly filled in, so I'll have to drill them out. Also, Lychee slicer thinks the Photon S's print volume is slightly bigger than it really is, so the flanges of the spools have a couple of flat spots where the model was outside the box, but I can live with that.
And with that, it's time to shut down and install some disks.

BTDT, Stupid BIOS didn't have it enabled and that really fucked the system until I cold rebooted.
-
@TwelveBaud I can never remember which interfaces are hot plug and which aren't, so I prefer to play it safe unless I'm sure. Besides, shutting down, connecting, and rebooting were pretty trivial compared to figuring out what tool I needed to use to initialize and format the new disks. "Damn, I haven't done this in years. How do I do this in Win 10?" And all the search results were some company telling me how to use their proprietary software, which would be fine if I knew it was trustworthy, but I found the instructions for Windows built-in disk manager before I found any info on the trustworthiness of the 3rd-party software.

GParted. I've made that choice over 10 years ago and never even thought of looking for an alternative because it works well enough for basic stuff. It's nice not to have to think.

Whatever. It's done now, using the Windows storage management tool, whatever it's called. I'd have to find the instructions again to remember what dialogs I clicked through to get there.

Right-click the start button. Choose Disk Management.
Alternatively, on older Windows 10 back to Vista, Right-click Start Menu, and choose Manage, Disk Manager is in the menu after that.

Delayed Status: Apparently, there's a lawsuit over who owns the company (not the one "running" Hypatia, the restaurant guys) and so apparently they can't do business until the courts say who is the real honcho?
What this means to me is that I can't dilly around all day in the nice air conditioned desk because the doors are locked (well, I have a key, but morality or something).
Luckily I was planning on going camping this weekend anyways, so I guess I have an extra day of preparation? Hoo... ray?

Aha! I've got your secret sussed, small-fry! You're not magically breaking hardware, you're running around inside the cases. And no doubt leaving crumbs and jam stains, thus explaining instability.
-

This reminds me of King's Field, where the NPCs don't react to being attacked but do eventually die, providing opportunities to sequence break and/or softlock yourself.

Yeah, I found that between the time you posted and the time I returned to this thread to see your post. I limited it to 75% of what it was using, and at least my VNC window can draw the remote session before the connection times out. Not that that's going to help my productivity; I still have no idea why this test is failing, and I have a distinct lack of interest in finding out.

Steam tells me that I have 102 games installed on either the new or old computers. At one time or another, I have played 56 (including 1 not included in the 102, because I uninstalled it, because it pissed me off so much for some reason I don't remember). That's out of a total library of 300+; most of the rest are games shared from my son's library that I have no interest in.
There are about a half-dozen, or so, I play on a somewhat regular basis, and a bunch more I played regularly for a while, but got blocked by some QTE that I can't get the apparently sub-pixel aiming accuracy and sub-nanosecond timing required by the game, or some clue or MacGuffin I haven't been able to find to unlock the next step, or some other frustrating aspect of game play, but which I'd like to, and would enjoy, play again if I could get past that blocker. Others are waiting for me to finish $other_game first, before starting a new one.
So, yeah, most of those don't need to be installed right now, but I have an abundance of disk space, so why not?
Incidentally, the one that's hogging the bandwidth for a huge download at the moment is a game I don't even own. It was in my library because it was free-to-play for a weekend a while ago, but I didn't have the disk space to install it. Now I do, so I'll probably pay for it Real Soon Now™. For some reason, Steam decided to jump it to the front of the download queue. Whatever.

Status: on-and-off I’ve been messing with some perspective mathematics. In particular, drawing a square given the vanishing points of its sides (and principle point of the projection) – basically how to bisect an arbitrary perspective projection of a right angle.
I did get a construction that actually works, though rather cumbersome:
(There I began with the centre, the vanishing points for the top and bottom edges, and an arbitrary size, then “derived” everything else from that)
So anyway tonight I was messing around some more and stumbled upon this startlingly simple setup:
I wrote some equations and it all checks out… but ?
So the fundamental result here would be this:
And I was going to say I don’t remember anything like that from high school classes on circle geometry, but while putting it together in a nice diagram I realised there totally was a thing about angles on the circumference being half those at the centre.
So uh… I’m a bit less perplexed from writing this but ironically it somewhat defeats the purpose of having written it.

I recommend WFMT out of Chicago. I'd recommend something better, but I assume you mistake status for quality, so the classical station it is.
