Shouldn't it have been gradual?
There's a corner where it's bent pretty bad. Always has been, but might have eventually snapped a wire.
And I really didn't want to go anywhere today (much like any other day)
Maybe I'll just leave it hanging. It's not like some pretty girl will visit me here anytime soon and go like "what's that?" and I'll be like
"it's a very important cable that has to go exactly like this""I'm a total lazy ass; don't move the bucket from under the sink, too"

Status: Fuck, I hate this password bullshit.
Create a new VM with "VMWare Virtual Cloud". IT has set it up that it starts with a default password (that's detailed on the help pages) and forces you to enter a new password. It's a VM and access to it is already controlled through the front end. I don't want to enter any password at all. So I type in a trivial password and Windows tells me it doesn't accept it due to the "complexity, history, or [whatever] requirements." But it doesn't tell me what the fuck those are.
I try something longer and it doesn't work. Try something else, no luck. I try to set my domain password, which already is like 25 characters long. If it's good enough for remote RDP it really should be good enough for a VM that cannot be otherwise reached, right? Nope, doesn't work. Holy fuck.
Next idea is to paste in the VM GUID that's shown in the vcloud URL, but paste doesn't work at this point, and I'm not typing this bullshit. So finally I go withasdfghjkqwertzui12345678!"ยง$
and voilร , it works.For fuck's sake, why can't I just leave the password blank?!

status sigh. LibFmt 8.0.0 was recently released. Ok, let's update!
- <drops in new source>
- <compile>
... several days later, tries changing C++ target (my default is c++14)
- c++17.
- c++ preview latest - hey, it compiled
BUT, have to change from
#include "fmt/format.h"
tofmt/xchar.h
. Because fuck wstrings. Oh. And all those examples offormat_to
- better disable warning 4996 cause they're all deprecated.Final status: Got one file to compile. I ain't got time for this shit. v7.1.3 it is.

Except, you know, I live in Windows. We don't do UTF8 here. So it's easier to work with wstrings. But yeah, we know how OSS feels about Windows...

I have a library dependency that defines a typedef so its API uses wstring on Windows and string otherwise. I donโt want to deal with that bullshit and riddle everything with platform
#ifdef
s so I put a wrapper around the library header that temporarily undefs WIN32 (or whatever it was that it checks for) so I can just use string everywhere.

@Gฤ ska said in The Official Status Thread:
@Tsaukpaetra okay, so what exactly are you trying to do with your VM?
It's replacing a BIOS-booting VM that provides redundancy NVR for my security camera DVR.
At this point I'm considering switching to a half-baked Linux
productproject.All it needs to do is dump 4+ network streams into mp4 containers and possibly provide real-time monitoring over the Internet (that doesn't require a Windows XP ActiveX control just to view. Yes I have a separate BIOS VM with XP on it specifically for when I have to deal with the DVR itself, which will not be upgraded).
Status: For some reason I was brought back to this post.
Report: I ended up switching to that part-baked Linux product, Zoneminder.
Probably going to look into replacing the DVR, I discovered it was the source of the AC voltage differential mentioned back here. It ended up killing the monitor it was attached to, and I only have so many spare monitors that can fit inside that cabinet...
