Status: Oh my God I want to strangle this idiot.
Last year, I wanted to renew my table at a local toy show. Before kung flu and Governor Lockdown fucked that up, I was going 'round and 'round with the organizer that just could not understand English. I told him I would mail him a check or pay a PayPal invoice. He could not understand that I needed a mailing address or an invoice.
So fast forward a year. I reach out about setting up a table at the 2021 show. I explain that I will need to mail a check or be sent a PayPal invoice. The info on the standalone site and Facebook is incomplete and conflicting. He tells me they're sending out information and invoices to vendors. Weeks go by and no update. I reach out again. It'll totally happen this week. Weeks go by and no update. I reach out again. We should contact everybody with their invoices by the end of the week. He is such a retard.
Finally this afternoon I receive an e-mail. "go ahead and send the money to braindoner@toyshow.com" Are you fucking kidding me? I showed you how to send an invoice in PayPal! It took you all this time to write "lol send money?"
I just sent back "hi. is there somebody else I can speak with? thanks."
Edit: Meanwhile, I'm out browsing shows for the summer, and I happen upon one that just sold out. It says to contact them to be put on a wait list. So I e-mail "hi, please put me on your wait list, thanks." That guy gets back to me in half an hour and not only puts me on the wait list but says he'll put me on the mailing list for 2022's table reservations. There has got to be 30 IQ points, minimum, between these people...
There's more than one annual sex toys expo?!

Who uses 22 or 66?

Kiwi Browser (basically, a fork of Mobile Chrome that supports desktop extensions) last April made an announcement that they're releasing the source code! It's now fully open source!
What they meant was: we have abandoned the project. Here's the source, maintain it yourself if you want to.

@error not so much. They did not specify the time zone.

Why would they narrow it down? You'll be able to fit less stuff in it.

Welp, I'm bored again. Let's make breaking changes to the bot command parser as I myself vehemently argued would be a terrible idea not even a month ago.
Filed under: Well, in theory they aren't breaking changes, but in practice they will be., Hypocrisy is fine if you hang a lampshade on it.

Weirdness with less-than in the eval module is coming from third-party striptags library in the command parser.

Oh! Past-me gave a normalize options argument that can let individual commands opt-out of this step.

@Zenith Is anybody doing even basic quality control or testing these days?
I ordered some copper bars with Ben Franklin on them two months ago. Two days later, this place charged my card. Then nothing. So I went back to the site. The "check my order" link in the e-mail is broken as usual. I started looking for the listing in their catalog and can't find it. What I suspect happened is that awesome QC where the system hides pages (where Google can find them of course) instead of marking them as out of stock. As I expect little needful was done, those orders probably go to a dead queue too. So I go to the contact form and e-mail asking about my order. Silence for two days. Alright, fuck you, I'll call the credit card company to do a chargeback.
: You are now in our touch tone system. To enable speech, press * *
: Enter the last four digits of your card number.
: 1 2 3 4
: Are you making a payment? 1 for yes 2 for no.

: Do you need your balance? 1 for yes 2 for no.
: 2
: To continue, press 3.
: 3
: In just a few words, say what you're calling about.
: chargeback
: I am being retarded.
: operator

3 minutes of silence...hello? hello? Bueller?

status I'm reminded why, even before the pandemic, I didn't go to social events. Everyone else knows each other, and then there's me. Awkwardly on the outside of all groups, included only out of duty or pity.

Ask @error to bring you to one of his lifestyle parties. I've heard it's a great way to help people overcome their inhibitions
But seriously... have you ever visited a small convention about something you like? There are usually new people every time, so you won't be the odd one out. And at least you know that the people there are interested in a particular subject, so that gives you something to talk about.

Status: I should probably not be allowed near any task that requires even a modicum of thought. I made myself oatmeal for breakfast, along with my usual source of caffeine, tea. I almost put a huge spoonful of brown sugar in my tea mug, and I did pour the boiling water for my tea into the already-cooked oatmeal.

@HardwareGeek Once I started the Keurig machine brewing without a mug to catch the coffee, but I was able to correct my mistake before it actually started dispensing hot coffee onto my desk.

For those who are eligible, Initech will reimburse up to $500.00 USD (or local currency equivalent) toward office supplies and equipment for home office set ups due to COVID-19.
Eligible employees include any employee who is currently or was previously primarily working from home due to COVID-19 site restrictions. This benefit is not available to employees who work in a location which already offered a stipend or allowance for home office expenses.
Employees can use their company credit card (where applicable) and follow expense (or local equivalent) reimbursement protocols for new purchases.
-
Now you need to think of a convincing argument that VR headsets can be considered office equipment.
-
@error my company does the same, except it's a general WFH policy that predates the pandemic. Apparently, for accounting purposes, a desk qualifies as office supplies.

Status: The hits keep coming.
Several weeks back, I ordered some storage totes for store pickup from Lowes. If not for half of the lids being broken, and not discovering this until I was home, it would've been a decent purchase. So fast forward to last week, I'm on the site, ordering (for delivery) more than I need so I can return the broken sets together without disrupting organization plans. Past experience with Amazon and Target has been that 1 of 6 being broken requires returning entire case of 6, meaning you could be stuck in a loop until an entire case arrives unbroken.
Anyway, the two cases just showed up today and
- They're different storage totes, as in not matching the ones I ordered under the same item number on the same site in March.
- Three of the twelve are broken. I swear to God they pack these things broken. I've lugged a hundred of these between toy shows for years and only ever broke one on my own.
- And...this irritates the hell out of me, they were cast from a worn out mold, so many of the edges are rough and sharp. I had a few batches like this a year ago, then they apparently fixed the mold, and now they're back to being shitted up.
So now I've just about decided to return all of them and not get any of my clutter cleaned up for another two weeks minimum.

I had a printer but used it infrequently and the ink kept drying in the head and clogging it.
At the point my HP printer threw an error for the genuine HP cartridge not being genuine, I binned it and printed/scanned stuff in the office.

It does have the ability to override the "I'm out of one color of ink, which you don't really need to use, so I'm useless" mode and go into "continuing to print when you're out of an unnecessary color of ink may damage the print heads, but if you really insist, I'll do it anyway" mode. It even remembers it's in that mode, so it doesn't ask every time you print, until you replace the cartridges.

Status: I hate supporting Mobile Safari almost as much as I hate supporting IE 11.
For instance, there's this bug
First reported in 2008. Is it fixed? Nope. Not even accepted. And desktop safari does the right thing (as do other webkit browsers). But mobile safari is the IE 6 of the modern age. Without the "killer features". Except that it has monopoly over iOS devices.
