@loopback0 but the time, plus the inevitably fixing things in my (precarious) development stack that will bork because some system library is different (since Apple cares nothing for such things), plus the time to reinstall xcode, which will want updates (even though that's up to date so far), etc...

Status: Trying to tactfully determine why X manager seems to want his folder structure very deeply nested. For example, a process that (naively) scans and tries to package a files in said folder is throwing a file-not-found (despite apparently having found it in the scanning part) when trying to open it for the following path:
D:\COMPANYNAME\BT - HOST SCANS - PHOENIX\BT-CUSTOMER-SCAN-MASTER-FOLDER\20201021-123456-Maxxy A-Pose\SCAN SESSION - SOURCE\CC3_BASE\textures\CC3_MORPH_TARGET_SKELETON\CC_Base_EyeOcclusion\CC_Base_EyeOcclusion\Std_Eye_Occlusion_L\Std_Eye_Occlusion_L_metallic.jpg
Like, okay, we know this computer belongs to
COMPANYNAME
, why is there a folder for it? We also know this computer is in thePHOENIX
location, doingBT
and is holding theHOST SCANS
, why is that a sub folder? We also know that the files here are for holding customer scans. Why? Just why....
Note that there are no other folders below this third level. The folder structure is not mirrored elsewhere either; at the destination only the
SCAN SESSION - SOURCE
folder contents are present, so it's not like we're glomming results by location/computer, and even if we were it would not be via folder structure!

I generally ignore their requests to rate their online ordering experience, but I'll sure respond to this, if I get one.
After clicking on that in the email, a page opens in the browser with a textbox in which to explain why you gave that rating. I used 499 characters of the 500-character limit, after deleting a few words (like "the") that weren't strictly necessary and part of a sentence explicitly highlighting the lateness of the delivery that was apparent from the dates. I didn't have room to fully vent my frustration at botched delivery. I made a point of praising the local manager who finally got it delivered, but again, I was unable to do so as fully as I'd have liked to.
Good, good. They look forward to your future custom.

I would assume having it on a completely separate drive would obviate the potential confusion...
The rest of it is insane, yes.
I was having my doubts.
Like, I get it, trying to be organized is a good thing. But making stupid easily-solved problems and then trying to create more work solving them in a different way (I got wind of this when I was CC'd in the middle of "I applied this registry thing for long file names")...
I do wonder how Windows normally expects you to handle excessively-long paths. Like, it clearly enumerated it according to the half-snipped screenshot that was sent, and presumably the same string as in the logging line was sent into a FileOpenWhatever call, so...

No wonder all your computers end up hopelessly broken.

UNC path format (the one starting with

). IIRC it has ~2000 character limit as opposed to the regular ~250.

For me, the only thing that keeps bugging me on upgrades is this:
The platform SDK has been changed from version 11.1 to version 11.3. This requires a fresh build. Please wipe the build directory completely, including any .qmake.stash and .qmake.cache files generated by qmake.
That's decidedly a Qt WTF though and not Apple's. Don't use a cache if you don't know how to invalidate it.
No more 15GB hour-long updates since I decided not to install xcode.

status tired.
Fucking smoke detectors. It's a 10y sealed battery (First Alert). Bought it in Mar 2020 (manufactured in Oct2019). Went off last night in the middle of the night. Sealed (9V) battery is no longer sealed. Hopefully I found all the small pieces of plastic after smashing it on the floor at 3am.

Considering my dogs (specifically the 17yo) won't let me sleep past 0545... Our early morning meetings are at 6a. Because the corporate overlords run on NYC time and they start at 9a. (yeah, I don't join - I'll watch the recorded session later. Maybe.)

I once had a boss who did that regularly. He had a weekly "quick, half-hour" meeting scheduled at 11:30. The meeting never finished in a half-hour, and sometimes ran until we got kicked out for other people's 13:00 meeting. Some of us had our own 13:00 meetings, and so spent our entire (supposed) lunch break in his meeting with no chance to eat. Did he ever spring for lunch, since he in effect called a lunchtime meeting? Hah, not once! I've been pretty lucky to have mostly good bosses throughout my career, but he was pretty much the bottom of the barrel in my experience.

Seriously, though, I'd rather the meetings just stop. There's been a flurry of interest from recruiters lately but it never goes anywhere and I'd hate to need it to go somewhere.

I've started using the ridiculous number of meetings I have to attend (which is easily verifiable from my Outlook calendar) as an excuse for my lack of productivity. Not that I'd actually be productive if they weren't there. But I could certainly focus more on Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

Yeah, despite King Jeff™ and his disciples, DiscoHorse was an improvment in several ways.

CS is a low bar but still. The CS bar basically has to be excavated to not pass over it. Not that there are not software that manage to pull that off.
