I'll start with Sekiro because FromSoftware has never made a bad game.

Indeed, there is. And there is a pump/tank that collects water from the drain pipe and (theoretically) pushes it through the pipe that leads through the concrete slab out of the building. And it is entirely possible one or both pipes are clogged and/or the pump is malfunctioning. However, there is also a significant amount of water that appears to leaking from a plastic plug next to the drain pipe, as well as an abundance of condensation forming on the exterior of the unit, where there is nothing to collect it. In any case, I will let the repair person figure out what the problem is; that's what he/she is getting paid for.

I had that on my furnace. And the plug broke. I discovered that when I went into the basement for something and water had sprayed over a bunch of stuff. Luckily not much was there because it had all been cleaned out when my water heater put 2 inches of water on the floor several years earlier.
And, of course, instead of just being able to replace the stupid-small connector for probably $1.25, the entire pump had to be replaced for (looks in quicken) $545.

@dcon Service guy was here. Said the problem is the whole thing is freezing up, and that (whatever is causing it) is a bigger repair than he was prepared to do at 17:00. So he'll pass the info on to the landlord and see what they want to do. In the meantime, he recommended setting the thermostat no more than a couple of degrees below ambient temperature to prevent too much water/ice from condensing.

@HardwareGeek sounds like "actually plugged in, f this" after translation from serviceperson.

Status: Ugh.
If I were a drinking man, today would be the kind of day that calls for an extra liter bottle of спирт.
Chased ghosts and shadows for basically 8 hours straight trying to track down a production performance problem. Multiple hypotheses. Some of them got ruled out, but our most promising one gave radically different results on every test.
Basic symptoms--the web app makes N very similar calls to the backend, all in parallel, all for different slices of the same data (basically data for a set of schedules). Some of those calls return within 1 second. Others? 15-20s. With no correlation to the data returned. Hit reload? Same pattern...with different of the calls taking long and the formerly long ones taking little time. Or not. No caches along the route (except maybe in the database)--browser cache disabled, intermediate services are too stupid to correlate between requests (they're almost state free; the state they have, such as cookies and such, are constant between requests).
Ruled out database load...until we didn't. Thought it was database connection latency (only some of the services have connection pooling). That hypothesis was a pain to test, but seemed promising. Until testing my fix (putting a connection-pooling proxy in front of the offending services) produced...exactly the same results as before. Except when it didn't--some times it produced results that all returned in almost exactly the same amount of time. With no perceivable rhyme or reason.
Ugh.

@Benjamin-Hall probably weird data dependent choices by the query optimizer. But it takes a lack of cowardice to dig into that.

That's... surprisingly similar to what I would have suggested. Barring row locking shenaniganglia getting in the way.

Actually...that's not a bad idea. Any idea how I'd investigate that?
-
@Benjamin-Hall Connection pooling was a good place to start. I used to support an application that used the built-in IIS/ASP.NET pooler. For years it would run fine for awhile and then slow down horrifically causing tons of timeouts. Turned out they weren't releasing connections, so it was basically filling up all of the slots and relying on garbage collection to free them...eventually.

Might evolve into its own thread, but I'd look for ye old lock check query, it may be different depending on what your SQL server product is, and check execution plan cache for your query and see how often it gets replaced/updated.

Funny how the game credits indicate it took hundreds of people to make the game but the story has the true AIs to rebuild the world being designed by a handful.

Sorry, but I'm used to using Linux. What is that thing you call "shut down"?
Teams will auto-install updates on startup and will never have to nag you
Actually, Teams couldn't show status of co-workers, so I completely closed it, then re-opened it. This is when it complained that it needed to update.
Not sure how it's supposed to auto-install updates. Do I have to hack the registry or something?

Sorry, you have to build it from source yourself.

@Tsaukpaetra Indeed. And if I were able to drive to the store, I either would already have one or would pick one as soon as I done working for the day. However, for various functional and legal reasons, my vehicle is currently inoperable, which complicates things somewhat.

-
@error One of the accessories (included) is an attachment to fill with wood chips or pellets for smoking. And among the things I bought with it are 4 different kinds of wood chips — hickory, mesquite, maple and apple. So I think I've got that covered.
Edit: I should get some oak, too. Santa Maria-style tri-tip needs red oak.

Status: I'm starting my long weekend 3 hours early. Of course that's because I worked those three hours between the end of business yesterday and about 4 AM this morning. Plus, writing code on 2 hours of sleep (bad sleep at that) is, well, less than productive. Thankfully my manager & his boss (the owner) are appreciative.

the deployment, due to some git issues, actually was a no op. No new code was deployed. So of course nothing changed.

tomorrowtoday (it's after midnight, so tomorrow is already today). I wasn't expecting until next week, anyway, so I don't really care that it's a day later than a few days early. I'm just a little annoyed that they said, "Good news! It'll be here by the end of today," and then didn't keep that promise.
