I like how the video manages to be off-topic even though they picked like every other topic.

Based on the preceding conversation I misread it as "death by a thousand cats."
Sounds even more painful.

For the record, I'm not actually quitting coffee. I'm just trying to break the dependence by going clean for a few days.

I don't think anybody is addicted enough to coffee for this

I had that fun when I stopped drinking iced tea all day. But my 2 cups of coffee in the morning help there...

Keep it around long enough and it'll get higher.

Status Designing the technical side for a new work-related iOS app. Looks like from what Product has asked for, the login flow will be roughly an order of magnitude more work on the client side than the actual app itself. That will change over time because the login flow should remain constant while more features are added to the app, but currently it's looking like 1 page (with two top-level elements) for the actual contents and at least 3-5 for the login flow, each of which is more complex (especially in the logic).
-
@Benjamin-Hall sounds about right. The mundane, boring, basic supporting functionality that isn't directly related to the goal of the application but is absolutely necessary, usually takes the majority of development time.

Yeah. This is a really boring app, except for the "interesting" questions of how we fit the login flow they want into our existing backend.
Existing backend for mobile clients doesn't know anything about users--it only knows devices. In fact, they only pay by the device, not by the user. Users only matter for logging in to the website (mainly for admin tasks). Devices authenticate with a "secret" (not secret, not secure) device-specific code, no other authentication ( for sure).
This new one is entirely user-centric. It knows nothing and cares nothing about devices, only users. And is supposed to bend over backward to make it easy to connect, even if the admin for the agencies haven't given the users their account information and all they have is an email attached to a device.

It's up to the place teaching him to figure something out and let him know; that's part of their job. He needs to keep a close eye on official communication channels.
I've no idea what they might do.

@dkf Of course. His Physics lab last semester was doing simple things at home, like, well, the one I remember was measuring reaction time by dropping a yard/meter stick and seeing how far it fell before the other person caught it, and calculating the time from Δy = at2/2. Other stuff, that couldn't easily be done at home, the instructor demonstrated the lab and gave measured data to the students to calculate and write up. Presumably the chem lab will be done similarly, but ISTM there'd be fewer things that could be done at home, and just watching, rather than being hands-on, would be even less of a learning experience than in Physics lab. We'll see how they actually work it, though.
