transfering / copying worksheets between workbooks.
Again, Office 2007 here, but AFAIK copying data doesn't work correctly with multiple Excel processes.
-
Don't know about later versions, but as of 2010 using SDI prevents you from transfering / copying worksheets between workbooks.

EDIT: What I said was a lie
OH, what I meant was that if you close the workbook and open a different one the data goes away.

I use it regularly. Deal with it.

Until you posted that, no-one was aware of your whoosh. Now you've drawn attention to it, people will start to demand to see what your whoosh was…

copying data doesn't work correctly with multiple Excel processes
Just tried copying a formula cell from one worksheet to another, and it copied the formula over.
Looking at task manager, seems like 2013 is still a single process, it just handles multiple windows how you'd expect. It still does some weird stuff with the clipboard though

I have exactly one use case: tracking events in my fan-fiction. I'm working on parallel trilogies, and I have a file called Timeline.xls for both trilogies.
Fortunately, there is a workaround!
-
Save one as Timeline.xlsx because you're not using Excel 2000 any more?
-
Possibly, but I would not be shocked to find out that didn't work, either.

Yeah but I'm not enjoying it.
Says the guy who enjoys not enjoying games.
Sounds like you're getting your money's worth.
-
Why would you do it, then? I thought the entire point of RITN and your twitch channel were to play horrible video games that were so bad they're good?
-
As of 2013, it is actually proper SDI, saving much swearing
Alas, we are still on 2007.

Possibly, but I would not be shocked to find out that didn't work, either.
Having foo.xls and foo.xlsx open at the same time works at least as far back as 2007. I have two such spreadsheets open currently. Why? It looks like the xlsx was generated by hand sometime last year, while the xls was generated last week by a script that only handles the older format.

Pick one letter in the password (the first?), increment it, and you have a new password. Now you have 26 unique variations, so you should sail through the history requirements.

well @PJH did have that query placed around a few places.... ;-)
Yeah, but that requires Discosearching; Shadowmod code doesn't

so you are saying
grep

well @PJH did have that query placed around a few places.... ;-)
@PJH is pretty careful to elide the GUID when he posts the query to avoid accidentally blocking the topic, so that's not a good source to find the GUID value.

On Windows, so VS's in-built search, but essentially, yes ;)

That indicates that the topic name changes frequently, not that it is excluded. There is some overlap, such as this thread and t/1000, but good/bad ideas topics are excluded without having frequently changing names.

32 bits ought to be enough for anybody.

Only 8GB of RAM and no SSD? Meh. It is a bargain bin laptop and I dislike touch screens on laptop or desktop. It is just a gizmo to attract the plebs.

That should also help fulfill most symbol or length requirements.
