Not if you know the right people (not that I do!). Legally prohibited, of course, is another thing.
Even then, I have way too many other, more pressing expenses for now.

I don't drink coffee, decaf or otherwise.

@Tsaukpaetra Coffee is barely drinkable. It only survives because so many places' "selection" of breakfast drinks is orange juice, lukewarm faucet water, and coffee.

Since that is the preferred order to drink these, I don’t see how that makes coffee survive.

Oh, that's easy! Here's an expanded list of breakfast drinks:
- tomato juice
- chocolate milk
- Pepsi
- white milk
- apple juice
- cold water
- beer
- hot water
- motor oil
- coffee
- lukewarm faucet water
- my own pee
- orange juice
- my own pee (second time through)
- grape juice
- Fanta

Status: so I bought a new bluetooth keyboard that can share easily between my work computer and desktop.
Only one problem. It's an international layout, labeled in French with some non-US-standard keycaps. That don't match the "standard" french ones I can find online. That wasn't mentioned anywhere in the product description.
-
@Benjamin-Hall It looks similar but not quite like the (horrible) Canadian bilingual layout. Also, that giant fn key on the right is a joke
-
@hungrier Speaking of French keyboards, one of my
client
provided computers has this:It's a normal US keyboard layout, but with French labels. In Windows, since I use the US English layout, all the keys do what they're supposed to (e.g. the < > } key is actually \ | like it should be). I'm half considering taping correct labels over them, although I guess I don't really need em.
-
@hungrier I always have fun hunting for the pipe or the tilde character with the Apple Mac keyboards. And also the various brackets.
-
For a while I switched my keyboard layout to Dvorak while it was still labelled qwerty. Confused the hell out of a few people. I barely look at the labels.
Good prank to play on coworkers.
-
@error Probably the only use for that layout
-
Step 1: Switch to Dvorak.
Step 2: Open Vim.

Status: Motherboard stopped working fully during weekend. Lost a RAM channel (two rightmost slots not working properly). Did full procedure, with two motherboards, CPUs and RAM sets and confirmed it was the motherboard and not any other part. Sent RMA request, it was approved within 10 minutes. Very fast!
With Ryzen 3800X CPU: Motherboard would refuse to boot and hang on RAM check (according to debug LED) with module in any channel 2 slot.
With Ryzen 2700X: Motherboard would boot, but be unable to use any RAM in the channel 2 slots. Module would show up in BIOS, but not be included in total system memory. So now to pack everything and send the MB back and see if I can get a replacement.

Status: Chromium has a pretty nasty memory leak these days. How the hell else do you end up with an EIGHT GIGABYTE PAGE FILE with only a dozen tabs open?
-
@Zenith I tend to have my pagefile at a set size. Then I had to increase the page file from 2GB to 8GB to make a program stop crashing with OOM errors despite there being over 10GB RAM free. I dunno if the there is on the program, or Windows memory management, or both. I know the program likes allocating more memory than it needs.

My microwave oven has a simple display of four 7-segment digits to show the clock as well as the current power and duration settings.
The only way I know of making it show the power and duration settings is to rotate the corresponding unmarked dials; which will also change the current settings.
I consider this definite proof that microwaves are subjected to the observer effect.

I spend more time fighting Windows file locks than anything else when doing a build.
It really needs a "delete this, fucking yes I'm sure, I don't care who's using it" function.
I use Lock Hunter but it makes me go through a context menu/GUI; I can't just put it in the build.
edit: though it's probably the corporate-mandated antimalware malware that's responsible for the locks

Status: The e-mail saga continues. I finally got around to creating another Comcast e-mail. It's a pain because you have to have the account owner kickoff the process. So I go through, set up e-mail, register with the store, and place a preorder. Five minutes later, the order notification arrives. So I hop back on my real account and place the same order and...nothing.
I just don't understand. The store has showed me the missing notifications. I've seen them send to a different e-mail on the same domain. Why aren't they showing up where they're supposed to? This is fucking ridiculous, like having to buy new spoons because your old ones stopped working.
-
@Zenith maybe the old mail had been silently blacklisted - routed to a lol mailbox folder at some step in the chain?
-

no one needs more than 2 tabs.

I've once again run into a situation where I have a huge log file filled with many occurrences of presumably a much smaller number of distinct errors.
Is there a way to analyze this log statistically, to look at errors by frequency, or over time? It seems like at this scale I should use statistical analysis. At WTFCorp we have NewRelic, but I
can't afford that for personal useapparently can get that for free so I'm dumb.

@error what kind of log file? Anything that a simple shell script can’t comb through?
-
@topspin said in The Official Status Thread:

In this instance, log4js, though I also have other apps that log in other ways (eg database).
Sure I can parse the file, but I'm not sure how to turn that into a useful report of any kind.
For the record: to the max here. I'm not trying to build something custom.

I guess
cat bla | cut ... | sort -u
isn’t sufficient to filter unique errors. Was just an idea.

Bingo. So, to save you all a potential rage stroke in the future, let me tell you how to fix a Comcast e-mail problem. Go to the Xfinity forums, start a new post, flag @ComcastSPAAbuse, and explain that specific e-mails aren't showing up in your mailbox. In less that a fucking hour, this person figured out what was wrong. I think the details are misleading/dishonest as I was out of the house doing inventory control at the store when "my profile" reported MandrillApp as spam but I can overlook it if they fix it. Holy fuck do I hate phone support now that they put me through a month of this frustration though.

@dcon said in The Official Status Thread:

Negatory. The rules are set by group policy and can't be touched by mere mortals.
-
@error
Sounds like you and all of your teammates need to spam Mordac (and Mordac's boss tree) until the GPO gets updated to exclude build directories.

Import (not open) it in Excel and hammer at it with PowerQuery?I know this looks like a if-all-you-have-is-a-hammer thing but in this case it's damn fine and balanced hammer and if you squint right it does look like a nail

Yeah you missed where he filled up a 120Gb partition with said logs. I doubt Excel will like that very much at all.
-
@Tsaukpaetra
How can you be sure? Have you tried? Stop this uncalled Excel bashing!
-
@Zenith wait, so what was the problem after all?
And did you just pull ye olde Cunningham’s law on their support monkeys?
-
@topspin said in The Official Status Thread:
@Zenith wait, so what was the problem after all?
And did you just pull ye olde Cunningham’s law on their support monkeys? The problem was that Comcast randomly decided to tell MailChimp to stop spamming me, even though nothing from MailChimp had ever been flagged as spam. I've been flagging shit from various PACs, newsletters, advertisers, and Nigerian princes as spam for years to no effect. Yet "somehow" one imaginary report (I was literally out of the house and busy working when it supposedly happened) on this store, and only this store, resulted in instant suppression that nobody on phone support could see.

A really simple way would be to find and highlight all matches in your favourite text editor. You'll get the count and should be able to copy the entire line for each error into a new doc for further analysis.

The text editor chokes when I open the 3 gigabyte log file.
