@topspin @loopback0 @pie_flavor The Lubaring is the time that two weeks of posts were inadvertently lost due to a (planned) database migration with no current backup.Overloading that term now can only lead to confusion.

I call that one the Lubar FUBAR. I like the names Great Benning or the Ban Lubar for this one.

Edit: Mother. Fucker. The silk-screened labels for the Ethernet ports are BACKWARDS!!!! I.e. igb0 is labeled "LAN 4" while igb3 is labeled "LAN 1".
How the fuck can you get this so wrong?!
Once upon a time I repurposed an old machine to be a router using one of the mini Linux variations of that age. The installer went just fine...but on boot it had reversed the network cards, making it unusable. I got it "working" eventually by changing which router project I was using to one whose installer and actual software saw the hardware the same.
We used that machine as the router until I moved last year. Not a power savings, but it certainly made its money in longevity.

Used power tools are usually cheap because the batteries are prohibitively expensive to purchase. In the past I've sold several complete sets of cordless tools because I had them for a few years, the batteries were shot and it was 70% of the cost of just buying an entirely new set of tools.
DeWalt, Craftsman, Milwaukee, Snap-On, Bosch. It was the same for all of them.
A few years ago I was in the market for a new weed eater, saw the Ryobi cordless one, realized it used the same batteries as the rest of their tools and made the switch. I've been really happy with them so far. A few times a year they put the batteries on sale for about half off or two for the price of one. That's when you stock up.
Ryobi has also been using the same basic compatible battery case design for over a decade. They've made a commitment to maintain backward compatibility in the future.
I said all of that to say this, unless you got a set of Hilti or Festool tools for pennies on the dollar, it probably isn't worth the trouble. Also, never ever buy Snap-On cordless tools. They're garbage. Complete and utter garbage. I got one of their drills and impact wrenches for free and it was still a rip-off.

Their latest charger seems to have dropped compatibility with their old NiCd batteries.
However, I found my old charger.
However, my old NiCd batteries seem to be kaput; at least one of them is.

I bought new batteries and new charger (and a new cordless jigsaw I didn't really need, because get one tool almost free with purchase of batteries and charger) a couple of months ago. This is how I know the latest charger doesn't charge NiCd batteries.

To add to the package saga, I ordered a new tempered glass protector for my kindle a month ago. Finally got the notification that it's out for delivery. Should show up in August. It's a small win.

Yup, I've ranted about that before. Fucking cloud brainworms. Because the 64GB storage on my phone is not enough to sync those 2KB of tracking data without internet access. And if I am somewhere without access for longer than what fitbit stores locally (1-2 weeks?), well tough luck.
It's quite certainly just an excuse so they can try to sell you more stupid services and, of course, mine your data.
-
@topspin The idiots are probably using some kind of Cloud realtime sync service which does not support an offline mode. The ones I'm using (CouchDB and Firebase) both support this out of the box.

Supposedly, two of the three batteries are fine, and one had enough charge that I was able to test all the tools. However, the charger doesn't work so I can't verify how long the batteries last, or even charge them until I fix it/get a new one

Some, people put commas, in the oddest, places. Others seem never to have heard of them and just keep writing long sentences with lots of clauses even dependent clauses where there should be commas but just keep writing and writing without ever taking a breath then put extraneous spaces before the punctuation they do use .
P.S., proofread is one word, my avatar notwithstanding.

People who place commas oddly probably base them purely on where they pause when speaking.

NiCd batteries are terrifically bad at remaining usable for anywhere remotely near a reasonable time. Especially if they're just sitting there.
Radio batteries are just as bad...
