Is that like how saying "no homo" makes it not gay?
Maybe. Can't figure out where that came from in the neural network.

That was before I tried enabling IPv6 and everything broke horribly.

Status: I hate Target so damned much.
For two weeks, everybody's been posting pictures of a specific exclusive that they bought in stores ahead of the street date. Target is usually a Nazi about street dates, but a retarded Nazi that will take an item out of your hands and put it back on shelves so it can take it away from the next customer (and the next and the next). Anyway, BrickSeek and PopFindr keep showing none in stock for 75 miles, an area covering a quarter of the entire state. Well finally it goes up on the website at 2AM, supposedly limited to one per customer, and it's sold out in minutes. Yet "somehow" eBay is flooded with listings where clowns have multiple for sale.
I went a Walmart the other day and half the stuff they had was so smashed they had to wrap it in packing tape to keep the product from falling out.
It's like I can't even spend money here.
-
@Zenith You have to wonder about eBay logic sometimes.
Here's a particularly stupid thing people do. Left is your average Marvel Legends figure. Right is what numpties do when selling them (as "brand new" of course).
The box weighs barely half an ounce and physical dimensions are less than an inch off at the flap. What the hell would possess somebody to pull figures from the box like this before attempting to sell them? Back before eBay was so corporate, it seemed like everybody was opening figures, even stuff on blister cards, to "check them" and destroying most of their value in the process.

Today on "I don't know my own strength": I somehow managed to cleanly split the cap on my guitar's pickup selector switch in twain. No, I don't get it either; I was doing some fast switching, to be sure, but this shouldn't happen.
It can be glued back together, I suppose, as a pro tem measure, but I really should replace it. Now I'm wondering what else to get, while I'm at it - in order to avoid postage being more expensive than the actual purchase. The torque bushes on my trem arm could probably do with replacing, but they're not very expensive either. Is it time for the pickup swap I'd been planning? (That would require soldering, though, which seems like work.)

The first time I tried to tune a violin, I treated the tuning machines like a guitar's.
The bridge popped across the room after a couple turns.

The server itself has been fine!
Just... not the router farting on the modem between it and the Internet...

@Tsaukpaetra said in The Official Status Thread:
the router
So on the proddings and mentionings about how using a real PC to do routing, I'm going to get a new full computer to take over for my Netgear R6300V2 unit running Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r29739 std (05/19/16).
I have chosen a piece-of-shit computer I had lying around to fill in until the actual unit arrives (thanks COVID!) and am installing OPNsense 20.1.
Hopefully it's not going to be too much trouble translating all my settings over.
And that Cox won't kick me for suddenly having a new MAC address (and again in two weeks)...

Why would they?
-
@Zerosquare because ISPs are assholes. A few years ago, I've had an ISP who I've had to inform every time I changed my
modemrouter before it started working, and they were only available 9 to 5, and the change took them up to 24 hours or more. Eventually (like the 2nd time I had to do it) I've got tired of it and started MAC cloning.

@Gąska: Wait, are we talking about cable modems, or ADSL modems?
-
@Zerosquare I fucked up. It was cable connection. But it wasn't modems that I was changing, it was routers.
-
@Gąska said in The Official Status Thread:

If I change router, I only need to reboot the cable-modem.
-
@TimeBandit right now I do too. I can also change my Wi-Fi password just fine. But at different points in time, under different ISPs, I've had to call my ISP on a workday between 9 and 5 to do one of these two things. I fucking hate ISPs and I fucking hate the DOCSIS standard and its remote configuration feature.
I wanted to set my password to "qwertyuiop". But I didn't believe the shithead on the other side of phone to not make a typo so instead I opted for a much harder to type "abcdefgh". But she wouldn't let me. She actually told me that it is absolutely required that the password for my home Wi-Fi on my home router contains at least one digit. Okay, fine. Make it "abcdefgh123".
-
@Zerosquare said in The Official Status Thread:

Yes.
-
@TimeBandit small correction: I don't even need to reboot modem. I just unplug old router and plug in new one and it just works. And technically, that's how it worked with MAC-blocking ISP too, except if MAC didn't match they'd redirect all traffic to a page telling me to contact them "to activate device".
-
Ah, yeah, Cable Is Different™ (and WTFy). You can consider yourself lucky if you're even allowed to connect using your own equipment instead of the cheapo piece-of-junk that's leased from the cable company.
-
@Zerosquare as I said, I made a mistake in previous post and the only thing I swapped was router. Modems, I've only used the ISP-provided ones. For ADSL too (because why would I buy my own if they provide one for free and the router is mine?)
-
status: okay, first stage replacement of my router commencing. @error hopefully this means Internet will be down only for five minutes.

Your routers don't have a modem included?
Anyways, I probably had an answer to that in one of the many rants back when I was this close to suing my ISP...

You are using the IPS's router?
-
@TimeBandit I'm willing to accept some degree of if it's gonna save me money. I'd definitely not do it with Comcast because they charge $10/month. But when it's free?
-
@Gąska said in The Official Status Thread:

You get what you pay for.
My ISP offered me a free router.
I said thanks, but no thanks.I have my own professional equipment.

Went almost exactly as expected. Got a new public IPv4 address, and I assume new IPv6 addresses. IPv6 still broken and now I apparently have four of them on my local PC alone.
What a cluster.

I get internet. When that stops being the case, I stop paying them. If there's nothing to gain from me buying my own device, I won't.

Apparently, the issues caused my main server to hard crash. Hoo ray.
Someone tell me why I decided to try IPv6?!?
-
@topspin said in The Official Status Thread:

Dunno about anyone/anywhere else but the ISP I'm with has the option of selling you a a cable modem or using your own, and I guess some of the models they sell have built-in routers, but I have a separate one, with a standalone router (old as fuck) as well as a second router (even older as fuck) that I use for my upstairs wifi access point.
