this kind of feels like I just called malloc with a negative number and it successfully gave me a negative amount of memory
That could theoretically work(-ish) on a suitable 32-bit system (by reinterpreting the signed value as unsigned and all providing the memory pool is larger than half the address space). Not that common a configuration though.

What about just getting a spacer to put under the legs? I'm thinking of those things that are designed to prevent scratching a wood floor - the ones I have are about an 1/8in.
I don't like to stack stuff that doesn't lock together. Otherwise, it'll drift over time. Plus I need four more anyway so it's easier just to get eight that match.

The invoice is for a booth at a convention. I still want to go and get out from under some of this stuff.
Then I think about how much I hate selling to other collectors. Some of them are so nitpicky and cheap. There's "I don't buy figures with crossed eyes" and then there's "well, Bumblebee's arms are 2.11 meters in the cartoon and, proportionally, this figure's are 2.09, so I want a 50% discount or I'm not buying it." If all I had to do was send an invoice to get paid, I would be ecstatic. I don't see why I can't get an invoice from this . He's going to end up with a money order, unless "what's your mailing address?" is answered with a telephone number.

Csi.exe is the best.

It was the bottom setting, so I thought it was the hardest. They didn't have any explanatory text.
Googling indicates Dark is actually the hardest setting (what I wanted), Insane is Hard + Permadeath.
-
@error You could back up the actual save files.

That's cheating.
Anyway, my saves are still present, but the game refuses to load them because I have a death logged to that character.
Weird.

Double .
If you skip the tutorial, you get a difficulty selector with explanatory text. If you do the tutorial, you get a different selector with no explanatory text.

@Tsaukpaetra It's the last version that installs on Windows 2000. Or, you have to stay on the 2.0 CLR because of some C++/CLR ickiness that you don't have the source for. Or, someone's pirated copy of Visual Studio 2005 can't go any higher. Or, you forgot to set the IL2CPP setting in Unity.
Take your pick.
-
@Tsaukpaetra Spoken like someone who isn't using language version 6 or greater.
This isn't actually, as far as I know, mutually exclusive with using .NET 3.5. You just have to be careful not to use language features that require stdlib types, unless you write those types yourself.

I mean, that's the primary reason I can think of why it's explicitly telling me "You need to use language version 6 or greater." Why is this notable to you?

TIL that
auto property initializer
uses a language feature that requires stdlib types. Whatever that means. (not shown: I'm initializing anint
auto property to -1 instead of 0).

@Tsaukpaetra I didn't say it did. Have you tried just setting

The
csproj
file is (annoyingly) regenerated constantly by Unity. This is shit, because since the Unity project says "Maketh thyself compatible with .Net 3.5" I get a prompt in Visual Studio 2017 (and I assume, in later versions) that I don't have the Targeting Pack for .Net 3.5 and would I like to re-target the project (x4) to .Net 4.2.7?
Natch I click "Well I want to be able to open the fucking text files associated with the solution so, duh!" option, which works until Unity notices Visual Studio is open and regenerates the project files again.
Meaning, yeah, I can probably change said setting, but it won't be listened to for more than -801321112 milliseconds.

@Tsaukpaetra Wow, Unity gets worse every time I hear about it.

@pie_flavor said in The Official Status Thread:

Its flaws are well documented.
Unity is a good tool for shipping a simple platformer or shooter in a very short timeframe. This is the most tactful thing I will say about it when asked at game developer meetups (where a handful of people there might be using it for their projects). For anything more ambitious, you'll run into problems like the above, GC hell, or all the other niceties the KSP community had to put up with.

It wouldn't be so bad if I flipped the switch to "Yeah, use .Net 4".
Well, this specific problem wouldn't be so bad. There's still plenty of other shit, but this particular fuckery is fixable were it not for bureaucracy.

But wouldn't you bump into problems with Mono? It's been a long time since I've touched Unity, but now that you mentioned it, it triggered some repressed memories that may have involved Mono and the .NET 3.5 to 4.0 transition, because Unity uses Mono instead of the .NET framework most of us are used to for teh crozz platformzzz.

No idea. I'm assuming in the two years it's been a feature to be on 4.X that most of the incompatibilities should have been ironed o--- Sorry, I can't finish that sentence.
