Status: saw an apartment described as "fully furnished".
Yeah, that's the only table in the whole place.

@anonymous234 The sofa blocking the view of the right hand leg really messes with the perspective.

@loopback0 What's going on with the right chair? Is the upper part of it behind the window? Is that even a window?

Humble Choice!
I almost got sucked in by signing back up for the Classic in time to get to keep it but wasn't sure. If this month is to go by, I think I made the right decision.

I missed that. Fuck knows.
Maybe you get a discount on the rent for the laws of physics being broken in one room.
-
@hungrier That's a corner of a window in the foreground, yes

they cut the back off it looks like...... why would you do that?!
-
Nah, it's just obscured by the window in front of it, like @anonymous234 said. But it indeed looks strange at first.

used "almost all" the stack
I'm pondering if the thread stack size default was changed or something. Epic would do something like that just for fun.
So, it turns out that we were manually defaulting database connection threads to 32kb of stack, which for years has been more than sufficient.
UE4's default (now?) is 256kb.
Fuck it, making the stack 256kb then. There's only going to be (usually) 2 threads. so a whole half-megabyte of extra stack isn't going to be too worrisome.

That's what you get for using C++...

I binary searched down to 96Kb so it's all fine. Still no explanation or indication why the space increase, but it's not crashing doing normal things so it's probably fixed now. Ship it!

Shit, I think I have that, but since it's paper it's anyone's guess where it actually is physically located, and because of its state I can't just pull it up digitally...
-
@Tsaukpaetra I just don't like paying for somebody to reject me for a software development job based on my grade in sociology and changes in the collectible toy market.
-
@Zenith Why would they want a credit check? Surely they'd be paying you, not the other way round?

I got a letter from Amazon today, which I thought was super weird because I haven't bought anything or used their services recently.
Inside was... an "promo" offering me 4 months of Prime Music Unlimited for 0.99€. Not even a gift code or anything, just an URL to their website.I'm not used to physical advertisements being sent to my house.

When I opened my business, I got three letters from Google to entice me to buy AdWords.

status: had a good dream. Had a prepared synopsis to report in the dreams thread. Last scene before I awoke was a flying one, which used an environment too big and consequently overwrote said summary. I has a sad.
Also, somehow I'm exhausted now. Flying via the power of the mind is strenuous!

For employers, I think it's probably a proxy for general trustworthiness. If you pay your bills, you're probably trustworthy. If you're deep in debt with creditors hounding you, you might be more likely to sell company secrets to a competitor.

Yeah, you may try to sell sensitive data to a shady guy from India and... huh...

Status: powered on my (ancient) iPod video 5G (not the revamped "original" curved ones) in an attempt to transplant my mother's iPod Video Classic's hard drive.
Reason is, her cat peed in the dock that was holding it while it was powered, and the iPod literally burned on the charge port.
I however am somewhat hopeful that the drive itself is fine.
In preparation for everything to shit itself, I decided to take a fresh image of the current drive (my shit). Keep in mind the battery is shot (it's 14 years old and well used, can't ask for much), I try to let it charge up for a few hours. Naturally it thinks it's charged after the first few minutes .
Start taking the image. All seems to go well. Disk read speed is shit, perhaps 8MB/s at best, which is kinda slow even for USB 2.0. I'm using Disk Mode to ensure no OS fuckery is getting in the way.
That was a mistake. Apparently reading the drive too fast drained the battery too fast and it crashed Disk Mode . No, I don't mean "The Disk stopped responding so unplugging and replugging to start again", but flat-out "All the icons/animation (in this case, the spinning sync icon and battery-is-charging, as well as the flasher) are froze and Windows says 'dafuq happened to this USB device' frozen".
I know Rockbox (Yes, I dual-boot my iPod. Fucking come at me, bro) has a slightly-less-efficient USB driver, and so begin again in that and lo, it's working better at 5 MB/s. I'll be back in 4 hours to swap the drives and pray my assumptions work and the actual interface hasn't changed...

@Tsaukpaetra said in The Official Status Thread:
I'll be back in 4 hours
Fucking open source software.
datetimes are hard, let's go fucking!Apparently I've been reading the drive for 1 hour, 101 minutes, 52 seconds, and it's still going to be about 3 hours 55 minutes and 1 second to complete (after an hour has passed and natch we're nearly half done).

That failed with a CRC error.
Also, did you know? Apparently this drive uses 2kb sectors. What the shit. I've seen 512b, I've seen 4kb. But 2kb?

Status: In today’s episode of the “repairing things I don’t understand” adventure, I fixed the radiators. Was easy in hindsight (letting the air out and more importantly refilling water, as there was zero pressure in the system), but it took me a while to figure out.
Oh, and I also filled up some oil in the car, but that was trivial even for my standards.

Holy shit I think I just figured out how solve Minesweeper in linear time with an n-dimensional lookup table.
Maybe it's a time-memory tradeoff but I can precompute nearly all of it.

There are 8 squares around each number, which are each mines or not mines.
Each clue is representable as a subset of 1byte bitmasks!
Just logically AND adjacent bitmasks together in sequence. But not only that, there are only several thousand possible combinations. Small enough to make a table.
