The Official Good Ideas Thread™

Start prosecuting Veterans Administration managers.

I'm beginning to think I posted in the wrong ideas thread...
As pointed out, we perhaps need one of those to go with the other themed threads...
:D
-
And now for something depressing.
Just read Corey Griffin, one of the founders and main fundraiser of the "Ice Bucket Challenge", died in a diving accident.
Jumping to a wharf off the top of a building at 2 A.M., not a good idea it seems.
-
"Ice Bucket Challenge"
I don't get it.. is the idea to simulate nerve damage?
died in a diving accident.
Everyone dies. Hey, at least he accomplished something. He even got Barack Obama to puss out and just write a check rather than get wet. You could save a billion ALStards and it wouldn't hold a candle to that.

My apartment complex is booting out the local ISPs and installing their own fiber.
Going from 6Mbps for $30/month to 20Mbps for $40/month. Winning!
Wait, 20Mbps on fiber? Do they know a single fiber can handle around 10Gbps and maybe more?
-
That's what's confusing me: one person said 20Mbps and one said 20Gbps and I'm not seeing any other service that offers speeds like 20Gbps....
-
Wait, 20Mbps on fiber? Do they know a single fiber can handle around 10Gbps and maybe more?
The shit you have hooked up on either end doesn't, necessarily. The data capacity of the fiber is pointless if you have it hooked to a 1997 antique from Juniper Networks on one end.
-
I'm still on copper, and that won't change anytime soon. :-(
They've just rolled out "fiber to the cabinet" where I live, which has increased our speeds from 16Mbps to 70Mbps.

"3 INCH FIRE HOSE"
"MANIKIN,RESUSCITATION TRAINING"
WTF‽
-
Why is it strange to have a fire hose and a CPR dummy?
-
Why are those things classified as "military equipment?" Which is what the page calls itself when you search.
-
Well point, but they are items the military undoubtedly also uses.
So by that logic, they should also be listing things like "ponchos" or "spoons".
-
Yeah...just weird. I looked at some other counties and they had stuff like MRAPs and 5.56 rifles, which make sense.
-
3 INCH FIRE HOSE
I hope that's width, not length.
-
Are we talking diameter, radius, circumference?
-
Imagine trying to fight a fire with a 3-inch-long fire hose.
A soup can that shoots water at high velocity.
-
Thai food for lunch.
We need an "Excellent Ideas Thread".
-
First entry: a Wyld Stallyons concert?

Imagine trying to fight a fire with a 3-inch-long fire hose.
A soup can that shoots water at high velocity.
That's why you need thousands of them, at $175/hose.

Discourse Ignore User button. PLEASE.
-
Is there really anyone (left) here that needs to be blocked?
-
Yes. The SNR has gone down dramatically in the last 12 hours.
Give it a week and the forum will consist of four or five people, two of which are sock puppets.
-
The SNR has gone down dramatically in the last 12 hours.
There are
peopledrooling idiots here that I would ignore if Dicsores provided that option. Those posting in the last 12 hours are not among them.
-
I can't think of anyone that requires more of an effort than tapping the key a couple of times.
-
Yeah, not having an ignore user function is not a big deal. There are only a couple users I would ignore. Nagesh hasn't been active recently; the other I won't name, but it got flagged for a couple of really over-the-line personal attacks.
-
yeeeeeeah, saw that. ok, I guess there is one. and Nagesh would probably become a forum default.

One for @Luhmann ;-)

Dear doctor, Every Belgian beer has his own correspondent glass to maximale taste and looks
I am well aware, and I LOVE Belgian beer.
-
I'm quite a fan of Blue Moon and it says Belgian on the bottle.
-
I like Leffe and Hoegaarden, but they're the only ones I can get in my local supermarket.
I really like Westmalle Tripel and Rochefort Trappist. Basically anything that's double or triple malt.
What would you recommend @Luhmann? Am I doing it right, or do you only export the crap stuff and keep the good stuff for yourselves? ;-)

Timezones suck, it's 9 AM here
Yes they do. It sucks in the mornings when the forum is really quiet because all you guys are still in bed.
Filed under: At least I have @Arantor, @PJH, @Keith, @dkf and the rest of team @area_gbr to entertain me in the mornings

Though it's Friday. During the summer lots of people in the office use their vacation days for 3-day weekends. I could probably sneak a few beers and no one would notice or care.
-
Except I've found myself heading back to being nocturnal again, I didn't emerge until 1pm BS Time today.

Do it!

I didn't emerge until 1pm BS Time today.
I'd probably do the same if I didn't have to go to work
-
Who said anything about not going to work?
-
Well, I have to be at work from 9am till 5pm, so sleeping in until 1pm and still fulfilling the requirements would be a supertrick!

I would suggest working from home is a particular kind of hell.

I would suggest working from home is a particular kind of hell.
There is an awesome kind of hell?
-
You will notice that Arantor did not use a particular adjective there.
-
I did. But the word "hell" itself should generally preclude anything good.
-
There is an awesome kind of hell?
That depends if you want to, say, be productive at any point in time.
