The Ig Nobel prizes have a great idea that should be implemented for all meetings:
One bad habit that many physicists are guilty of is talking longer than the allotted time. The Ig Nobel ceremony dealt with this problem by having an 8-year-old girl repeatedly yell “Stop, I am bored!” at anyone who went over time.

When we had a weekly hour-long meeting that always went at least 30 minutes over time, we found an excuse to reschedule it to Tuesday 11:00. Tuesdays is hot lunch day.

@Benjamin-Hall You should have linked the article that came from. I looked it up and it's great!

It's not a matter of being unable. It's just that I'd have to have had multiple tabs open (so I could copy text, insert it, then copy URL and insert that. Or vice versa). But I was doing other things at the same time, and .

Oh, so you can watch passionate hugging and not get distracted from working? It's a good thing you have TDWTF to bolster the time sink!

I remember there used to be one team at work that used some online platform where each person could speak for five minutes or so, after which they'd basically be cut off and the "talking stick" would be handed off to someone else. Listeners could vote for the speaker's time being extended by five minutes at a time if they were engaged.
Sounded like a good idea, though I never used it myself and I imagine there are some social dynamics that could interfere with it (i.e. a boss would probably be mad if his subordinates effectively cut him off by not voting to extend). I think it was meant for "agile" teams/stand-ups where everyone's effectively equal in rank.

What's fair is fair. If he's not engaging he can suck it,

I swear it's been done before, if you consider a half-adder a computer...
The Difference Engine was a bit more sophisticated than that. (Alas, it needed somewhat better machine tools than were generally available at the time of its invention to actually be practical to build.)

I woke up thinking of Zip drives (as one does), and how using them they felt more satisfactory that plugging a USB thingy (if less convenient).
This got me thinking it would be nice to add simulated audio for SSD I/O.
An obvious choice would be to simulate the sound of spinning rust hard drives, the sound of floppy disks, or storage tape.Other interesting alternatives would be howling wind, running water, spinning film reel and a revving engine.

I happen to know that there are people with collections of steam locomotive audio. Just sayin'.

@Zecc I can totally see people buying computer parts with actual gears and tapes and mechanical stuff to make them look cooler.
I mean RGB leds have to get old some day.

@HardwareGeek Do good/bad ideas work the same as right and left turns?

fun fact. on a non euclidean surface three rights might not equal a left!

@Vixen Sure they would. They just wouldn't be 90 degree angles.

@Mason_Wheeler That depends on the magnitude of the local curvature of space. The greater that is, the more screwy everything gets.

@dkf Space must be very curved in the vicinity of TDWTF.

@Vixen @Carnage appears to be a canid but not a vulpine, so I don't think it's applicable, unless the cute, white puffball says otherwise.

Canid would also be acceptable. less specific in my case, but still acceptable

i am not a doggy...... but..... i don't mind their style.... they have a very fun style.... quite messy, but you can't argue with results.

You are not. But that post (the one with "sir/madam/...") was in reply to @Carnage, not you, and "doggy" is a potentially valid from of addressing someone who presents as a cute puppy. That it isn't valid for someone who presents differently is neither here nor there.

Good Idea: Sell hot cocoa powder in a 2-gallon bucket. Please. Please. I hate buying a big box of the stuff, getting home, opening it up to see there's only four packets inside, and you need two packets per mug.

I've got a big ol' can of mix that's probably never going to be finished.
Not exactly 2-gallon size, but still sizable.
