I'm still a grumpy cat: a final plea to Alex

He didn't mention @presidentsdaughter, @blakeyrat, @error or any of the other people so I'm quite sure he didn't read that topic.

I registered on DC because CS DOES NOT WORK in registration or password reset anymore - for years (emails never arrive). Short of writing you a snail mail letter, I had no option available to me to fix this. In the internet vacuum, no one hears your screams. I can post anonymously in articles there, but forget SidebarWTF or the others. "An even smaller post comments...," well, now you know why. I felt quite disconnected, and am sure I wasn't the only one.
I, as well, only joined the forums with the introduction of Discourse; I lurked on CS off and on for years, reading Side Bar WTFs and the IHOC, and posted anonymously on frontpage articles from time to time.
The CS community became isolated, insular, an echo-chamber. Any change to it would have brought about a changing of the guard to some degree, and that is borne out by the response to Discourse, albeit to not the degree the naysayers predicted. (@Lorne_Kates is the only permanent [s]casualty[/s]refugee, although a few others such as El_Heffe have stayed around on the CS side.)
This out of the way, Discourse was simply swapping one palette of WTFs (XSS everywhere, an editor that predated BBCode and had broken WYSIWYG functionality), for another (still a fair bit of XSS albeit less than the old forum and actively plugged by devs, some of the issues that still remain with infiniscroll, and the "regex soup" HTBBMark parser that must go before Discourse will be production grade in my eyes).
I wonder if there is no good forum package, either OSS or commercial? (SMF is the one that's come closest to decent out of the 'traditionals' IME, although IPB can be passable as well.)
-
I'd rate XenForo over IPB, for the pure-blood forum experience, with IPB for the fully-integrated suite personally. SMF is probably still the best of the FOSS ones, but then again I sort of would say that.

We can't just keep on discussing Discourse.
Somehow, we seem to have managed to do just that, though. Even months after we've moved to , we're still discussing it.
(Necropost due to necrolike by @obeselymorbid.)

Probably something to do with this : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rE3j_RHkqJc

So let's see if I have the score right:
With Discourse we lost @Lorne_Kates, @moribuswinters, and @blakeyrat.
With NodeBB we lost @blakeyrat.
Improvement, I guess?

Only one of those three are real people.

I've never heard of moribuswinters before.

@ben_lubar Morbs was before my time, so excuse me for not remembering his ID. @Lorne_Kates created this thread, as you can plainly see.

There is no user named @Lorne_Kates. Does autocomplete not work for you?

prefectly.

@ben_lubar @Lorne_Kates was deliberate. As you can see, that's the original poster.
@moribuswinters was gross negligence.

Given enough time, I think all those are more or less possible except #1.
The banning Jeff step happened at least.
