🙅 THE BAD IDEAS THREAD

letting Kari Byron go was a mistake on their part...
Which reminds me...
Bad Idea: Letting Kari Byron go from the Mythbusters show.
And yes, this was just an excuse to post more pictures of her.

John McAfee, the antivirus software magnate, has announed that he plans to run for president in the 2016 election.
He simply could not be a worse candidate than Trump.
-
could not be a worse candidate than Trump
Is Trump currently under indictment? I mean they are both jokes, but Trump could be trying to boost the TV junk he does rather than thinking he could win.
-
Is Trump currently under indictment?
Not that I am aware of, but most of the Republican party has been indicted at some point.
-
McAfee is currently (DUI & possesion of a handgun while drunk) with court dates in November, is near the bottom of the article I linked.
-
I was aware that he was, I am also aware that he is nuttier than squirrel shit.
But hell, we survived Nixon. We could survive McAfee. At least that guy has personality.
-
If you have any interest, here is his personal website:

If you have any interest
I don't, I am aware that he is a nutjob. Though thinking about it having a president that couldn't visit another country could be interesting.
-
Meh, I don't think that "being able to visit Belize" is a big requirement for US President. In the not too recent past we elected a president that had never traveled in Europe.
-

Eh...if we're going that way, we could just go with Biden.

But it might be interesting watching the Secret Service fight the local cops.
-
That... would be interesting, yes.
Would they let them arrest him, or start an all-out shooting and evacuation? Probably the latter.
I know they'd never let him get in anything that could be remotely considered "enemy territory". But McAfee would probably sneak out inside the laundry cart or something and board a plane under a fake name.
-
Didn't some Euros indict Rumsfeld or something? Did he ever go back after that? Or maybe Cheney? Can't recall. It was all so ridiculous.
-
Fuck, that was some really super-scary shit.
-
Yeah. Proper skills from the Audi driver to dodge that.

Do we have a "Stupid ideas that no one asked for" thread?
Bad/Stupid Idea: Bluetooth enabled batteries for your tools.

Shit. My FIL would totally start buying those if he bought DeWalt stuff any more.

Bad idea: abbreviate "Sales and Marketing" as "S&M"
Related bad idea: Have two people with last names Stadler and Meyer found a company. Based on initial investment, stadler gets his name listed first. Decide that "Stadler and Meyer" is too long, so name the company "S&M"

He simply could not be a worse candidate than Trump.
Trump has never been accused of murder, then had to flee a country to escape charges. (And personally, I do find it 100% believable that he killed his neighbor in a drug-fueled rage, and if it were up to me, I'd extradite him to face the charges.)
Honestly, Trump is a far better candidate than McAfee.

This is a case where the term "homeopathic" was diluted, if you'll pardon the pun, beyond the original meaning.
And see? It got stronger.

Yet.

I can see why you so rarely assume, you fucking suck at it.
Honestly, Trump is a far better candidate than McAfee.
They are both shit. I am just erring on the side of persionality and entertainment value.
-
And yes, this was just an excuse to post more pictures of her.
I'm sorry, but that's a good idea and so off topic.

-
Trump has never been accused of murder
That doesn't strike me as the kind of thing he'd do himself.
-
But it might be interesting watching the Secret Service fight the local cops.
Isn't there a movie with this scenario?

My daughter wanted a bat'leth for Christmas — mostly(?) to hang on her wall, but not-sharp and light enough to swing and not hurt herself or anyone else around were the first design criteria she gave me. It didn't get done in time for Christmas (as usual), and I'm kind of blocked in trying to work on it further at the moment. I'm ready to seal and paint it (4mm plywood), but it's too cold and wet to spray paint outdoors.
I'm quite certain I remember someone asking for pictures, but Discosearch. Anyway, I'm going to post whether you want to see them or not.
Unfortunately, this is an appropriate topic. Although the basic idea is fine, some of the ideas for the implementation turned out to be quite bad.
As stated in the quote, it's made of painted plywood. The main idea that was bad was the choice of paint and/or application technique. The paint my daughter wanted me to use ("Michael's has this 'chrome' paint that looks really good.") never dries properly. If applied in multiple thin layers, the way spray paint should be, it leaves a dull, gray, powdery finish that rubs off on your fingers. If applied in a layer heavier to let the droplets merge into a smooth, shiny surface, the surface dries, but underneath it stays soft and gooey for weeks, even months. It's dry to the touch, but any pressure, even just holding it in your hand, will leave indentations in the paint. Trying to use sunlight or other heat source to encourage the rest of the solvent to evaporate from the interior of the paint film just causes it to blister.
Months of painting, drying, screwing up the finish, sanding, painting again, letting it dry even longer, etc. later, I finally have this:
It needs a little paint touch-up at the red arrows, and maybe the yellow ones if I can without too much trouble. The red arrow at left is indicating two fingerprints, complete with ridges, left while wrapping the first handgrip (after the paint had been "dry" for a month). The leather handgrips are wet from scrubbing excess glue off; as soon as it dries, I can put some masking tape on the leather and touch up the paint. Today's a good day for painting — dry, sunny and fairly warm. If nothing goes wrong, it should be done by this evening. Then I just have to let the paint dry thoroughly (yeah, right), then figure out how I can pack it to send it to my daughter without the paint getting damaged in transit.
I would never make one like this again. I would either make it out of metal (aluminum, unless she or my son wanted a "real" one, then cut out of sheet steel, not forged; I'm not a blacksmith), or maybe laminate aluminum foil to the wood after shaping and sanding, if I could do it without wrinkles or tears in the foil, but never again painted wood.
Bat'leth #2:
Brass; cheap, gold-plated chain from the hobby shop. Much easier than the wooden one.

It needs a little paint touch-up
Done. Now for it to dry................................................................
-
I'm sure it will be dried just in time for Christmas

Unfortunately, it was to have been her gift for 2014.

Like...I get the underlying thought...and the annoying self righteous tone...but this is seriously asking for abuse of the spirit of the thing. I mean...when I was in college I would have abused it just on principle and for my own amusement.

I'd think about it. And then use the male toilet anyway because the queue would be shorter.
-
I'd find an excuse. Like maybe I just needed to wash my hands or comb my beard or whatever.
