🙅 THE BAD IDEAS THREAD

But, for me the are "finger tip controls" i.e. In whatever direction the hand in moving (as the steering wheel turns they can be flicked in the direction of turn and you do not need to take a hand off of the wheel to do so,
Comfort indicators support this too.
On the plus side, as you straighten up you can flick them off.
I can. Or I can not, seeing as they already stopped. And how much do you turn the wheel when changing lane?

Was this car made in a certain country with a fondness for baguettes?
-
It may have been, and it may be a "Friday afternoon" one. In some countries it would have an Opel Badge, in others a GM one. If was made in the UK, I know the town it was probably built in, so I can understand its "issues"
-
-
Spent 20 years of my life there (in two large chunks about a year or two apart), got married, a degree, and divorced there.
-
I know it. It's not a million miles from here. Bought a non-Vauxhall car there once.
-
Did you see on the national news a few weeks back, about the increase in the number of Vauxhall Corsas that have had "parts" like doors, and pannels etc removed from them?
-
Yeah, countywide thing mostly. Includes Astras, Zafiras etc too.
-
You would have to admit: It is a novel, self-sustaining enterprise. Wouldn't work in the U S of A, 'cos (according to CSI) everything has a serial number and everything is documented,
-
There was a spate of thefts of seats from the S/RS Audi models, which despite having serial numbers, got nicked and ended up in the cars being written off because the seats are mad expensive to replace.
-
Did you know that lobster used to be extremely cheap, as most people refused to eat it? It was once akin to eating insects. Which...it kind of is.
It was given to prisoners for this reason.
-
Also, yes.
-
IOW, improving their competitiveness by investment instead of using the government to disadvantage their competitors.
A perfect example is certifications for things like eyebrow threading. I think in Texas they managed to make it so you essentially had to have the equivalent of an Associate's degree to do that, someone sued, and the licensing regime was thrown out.

Are these alien species from Star Wars or what the actually fucking are you talkaboot?

Maybe I'm showing my age here but... hipsterish? I keep running across the word 'hipster' here, but I have no idea what the reference is. To me, 'hipster' is an archaism, a reference to a sub-culture (the Beats) that was dead and buried a few years before I was born. I have no idea what you mean by it here.
It's not surprising, since I have no concept of current cultural trends (and didn't when I was younger, either), and don't want to have any, frankly, but it bothers me that I don't know what you're talking about.

"Hip" has two distinct meanings. It can refer to the stylish at a particular point in time (as you have done), or it can simply mean those who are on the cutting edge of stylishness, whatever era they're in.
Also, you mentioned the Beats. The successor to the Beatniks (the proper word) was the Hippies.

WTF? Why do brits hate cars so much?!
-
Pretty sure we hate everything that doesn't involve a queue.
-
Ha! One of my favourite things to do is to cut in line before a brit and see them foam at the mouth.
It is almost as good as going to a toy shop on the 23rd of December, find an item of which there is only one left, and wait until a stressed mother comes reaching for it before putting it down into my shopping basket.
-
Have you seen british cars?
-
I saw one one of these a few times on the parking lot of a car dealership:

Sexy~
-
Sure, until you try to repair it.
I prefer the XK8 or even the XJ6 over the E-type...
-
Pretty sure we hate everything that doesn't involve a queue.
So… we really ought to love cars for all the queues we put on our roads…
-
Touché.
-
Re relationship with cars.
Speaking as one "Brit", individually and privately we may express a like or even love of our car. But culturally, a love of cars is seen an "Americanism" which is something that must be discouraged and therefore not to ne associated with. This quite often results in a public display of hate for them
-
Bad idea: Make a watertight tent and forget to install sufficient ventilation.
-
Bad idea: this shit
-
Wonder if she talks like that IRL?
-

Yeah. And the required training had no threading related material at all.
-

I don't really think you are one, but that sort of cynicism is something I associate with modern hipsters. I suppose the are the modern heirs of the beatniks.
-
"Released four days early"
Gasp!
Wait, that wasn't emphatic enough.
Much better.

You, @loose, understand that you people are weird, right?
-
Make a watertight tent and forget to install sufficient ventilation.
How do you fuck up so badly? You can see two windows in the picture! Did they use clear plastic instead of mesh?
-
As a Brit I have to reply that we are not the weird ones.
As a living sentient entity I have to admit that the UK, England in particular, is the most (psychologically) fucked up society that can be found in this universe.
I am fully cognisant of the fact that I have included myself in that set.
-
You, @loose, understand that you people are weird, right?
Seems like reflexively expressing anti-American platitudes is fairly standard. Revealed preferences often contradict this, of course.
-
They could be, from certain perspectives.
-
I haven't seen any more detailed articles about it. Just that the store themselves have a picture with the text "lethal" over it on their front page.

This music video is making fun of hipsters.

From the article:

The image is a 420 byte png that expands to something like 141GB image...

From the translation:Biltema replaces all customers with the purchase price.
I'm sure their retail staff is happy not to have to deal with those annoying customers any more, now that the money just walks into the store by itself.

Just as soon as I am back on my desktop...
-
This music video is making fun of hipsters.
...and there's nothing more hipster than that.
-
The file's too big for Discourse to accept though
-
Somewhere I had a JPEG decompression bomb that was only a few hundred KB. I think it was only a few gigapixels though, so perhaps not quite as effective.
-
The best part is, when someone mentions someone/thing looking really hipster, I can always truthfully say that that's what it's always like here in Portland. It's really very entertaining.
-
So “That rain looks really hipster!” is reasonable? :D
-
Well, I think I've seen enough of it to know!
