🙅 THE BAD IDEAS THREAD
-
I decided to try to complete one of the tutorial missions in the new Dota 2 Reborn beta while putting off the first objective for as long as possible. I finally got it (the objective is to kill 10 creeps) after 67 minutes, when I was max level and had all the items the game told me to earn.
The game thought I had 9 out of the 4 suggested major items. Since I already had all the items the tutorial mission would let me buy, I couldn't finish the next objective.
Destroying the dire ancient ended the game, though. Take a look at those stats.

Wow you took a boring game and made it even boring-er.

Did you think he might of made it less boring?

might of
NONONONONONONONONO!
You are bad and you should feel bad. Think of the shame you bring on your family when you use such hideous grammar!
The correct construction is "might have", you neanderthal.

Pssst, go back and view source.
Maybe I did and decided to do something anyway for those who didn't view source. Now you've destroyed my chance at a badge, you bastard!

This belongs in the funny stuff thread, unless you're at work.
There's a link in the below-comic text block, to an image of a gun. After I loaded the image I looked at the address bar: http://grrlpowercomic.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/SEXUAL_TYRANNOSAURUS.png
-
Also, putting bayonets on a minigun is funny, if not necessarily useful.

Then why is it in bad ideas? Someone want to Jeff it? @boomzilla?

Then why is it in bad ideas?
Look at that URL again (the second one). It seems designed to trip work web filters. Hint: Neither of the two words in the file name accurately describe the picture.

What the fuck is wrong with imgur oneboxing? Some times it's shown properly, other times it's just a link.
You know what? Fuck imgur. From now on I'm just posting an image.

imgurDicsource. From now on I'm just posting an image.

Even if it oneboxed, people with it blocked on company network or whatever still wouldn't see it. So you kinda do need to do the image directly, but be nice and link it back there too.
-
I don't know which certificate it's whining about, because it's not TDWTF's; @Zecc needs to hover over the file name to the right, which is cut off in this picture.
Google Analytics scripts.

Evolution in action.
While someone using it like in the photo does deserve it that isn't really the right phrase for the all kinds of wrong on the pictured individual's finger position.
-
Wait, that's an actual working gun? Not a replica?
Well, then again, if she fires her gun by accident in that position she won't need an iPhone anymore.
-
Wait, that's an actual working gun? Not a replica?
Working vs. Fake has nothing to do with proper finger position.
-
-
That is 3657891265783961652378546327819 types of wrong… not to mention creepy as fuck
-
You actually expect someone just begging to be shot by cops to have a clue about the proper finger position?
-
Sorry, I thought that your response was due to not understanding the comment about finger position due to it not being a real firearm. Apologies.
-
That is awesome. Please tell me it was for a baby shower or equivalent event.
EDIT: Hooray it was! thanks @Cursorkeys and @dcon.
-
I actually have no idea why it exists. I found it on a GIS for gas turbine parts. I'll see if there is any info...
Edit: It's Buzzfeed but the GIFs are..something: http://www.buzzfeed.com/alisoncaporimo/babies-yum#.epkRk1dpX
It just says its a 'realistic baby cake', no back story.

I just found this http://www.babble.com/mom/11-creepiest-baby-shower-cakes-ever-photos/
(google 'baby cake')

As a father of three, I can tell you you're wrong. I've had a kid come out looking like that. One was more purple. The third was pretty much just gray. They look much better once they get cleaned up.
It's the fact that someone thought that was a good idea for a cake that makes it creepy.
-
I've had a kid come out looking like that.
That baby is definitely a 0 on the appearance/complexion component of the Apgar score. If pulse, respiration, reflex, etc. are ok, then there's no real problem, but personally I'd still be a bit concerned about hypoxia. (I had friends whose son suffered significant brain damage due to hypoxia during delivery.)
They look much better once they get cleaned up.
This is true. Newborns are ugly.

Bad Idea: Attempting to gold-plate your genitals.

-
Evolution in action. Give that guy a Darwin Award (although apparently he's not the only one; “This is the third case this year, but we have had many occurrences in hospitals in the region these past years. It seems to be a growing trend within the gang member community”).
BTW, many gold-plating solutions contain sodium and/or potassium cyanide. Even "cyanide-free" solutions contain potassium dicyanoaurate (as well as other skin-unfriendly ingredients), not something you want in contact with your skin.
-
I'm calling it: that's a fake story. It's an upcoming trend, and this guy is the third person to do it? Nope, I find that on the edge of believability. But if you click through to the site the story came from, you can fairly quickly reach the conclusion that's another parody/fake news site. Someone created an entirely lab-grown baby? Saturn's maybe going to be demoted from being a planet? Pull the other one, it's got bells on it.

Is that a false-colour photo, or a screenshot of Splatoon?

allrgb.com submission, though the point gets lost in minification.

http://linkbeef.com/l-a-gang-member-gold-plates-own-genitals-to-death/
Quite why that article uses the present-tense (as if he was still alive) when it clearly states that he died is somewhat weird:
An L.A. gang member, Nazario Conchuza Gonzalez, who is part of the infamous Ms-13 gang, also called Mara Salvatrucha, has died of medical complications after attempting to gold plate his own genitals to celebrate his 17th anniversary.
The young man that is originally from El Salvador and is an active member of the MS-13 crime family
How can he be an active member (heh - ) when he's dead?
But as already pointed out, hoax.
-
In my defense for posting what seems to be a hoax story, this is The Bad Ideas Thread, not The Bad Ideas That Actually Happened Thread!
-
A treadmill-driven bicycle.
"A sensor is registrating the movement off the treadmill" That's some Engrish, all right.
And since the treadmill doesn't work too well, it contains an electric motor that actually drives it.
And it's only USD2100!
-
I'm calling it: that's a fake story.
I saw that and considered linking it in Funny Stuff.
-
MST3K did that in the 90s. Feh.
TV's Frank also invented a stair climbing machine that actually let you move up floors as you exercised, and a rowing machine that floated so you could exercise on a lake.
-
"...after first painting his genitals with a lead-based paint..."
That'll do (it) punk, that'll do.

Not so much a BAD IDEA as BAD THINKING
From:
There is a paradox for an author in 2015. It is harder than ever to make money from writing. And yet there are more people writing and publishing books than ever before.
(the monsterhunternation site has been sporadically down today)

That's not a paradox, that's just market oversaturation
