🙅 THE BAD IDEAS THREAD

I don't have a translator on hand, and my very limited German says...
You did well. Chrome's built-in "translate to English" feature made far less sense out of it than you did.

What the fuck is up with that article? It's like they spliced two completely different stories that just happened to feature the same celerity. Like, they had just finished restating the headline for the first time, after that there's normally a slightly more verbose part where they give you a bit of context about the thing that they're reporting on but No! Sudden left turn! Now we're taking about interviewing someone else for a completely different movie than the one we mentioned in the lede.

Fuck the letter 'b'! Where's my fucking pedantry badge!? Other people get pedant badges and they're not even being pedantic! All this time, all the pedantry I've dished out, and still no badge for Bort! This badge shit is bullshit!

Bad idea: blue beer
Apparently it takes a Canadian with roots in Mons to achieve this feature. Thanks Mons!

Now I know where Green

I think they were still quoting Eisenberg. He was talking about Comic-con, which he attended because of one movie. But he gave the quote at the premier for another movie he's in. Both movies were briefly described.
-
Only if he's wearing colored contact lenses, colored his hair and changed the form of his face.
AND if he was holding a pint of blue beer.

Good to see that the lessons are paying off, a few more like this and I'm sure you'll get that pedantry badge.

Ricky Gervais?
It looks like him crossed with Jonathan Frakes through some horrible celebrity genetic accident.

You know how generics often use packaging that is just slightly off of the name brand? Like that.
-
would that be the octogenarian type?

It looks like him crossed with Jonathan Frakes through some horribly celebrity generic accident.
The transporter accidents must be leaking into Real Life.

OK so someone said something dumb, but Googling that name brings up things about a filmmaker/artist/poet. Dumb shit gets said by lots of people in those professions, is this person extra influential (obviously I don't recognize the name)?
-
It was apparently said at the current NetRoots Nation thingamabob where the
@About Us said:
The big picture: We amplify progressive voices by providing an online and in-person campus for exchanging ideas and learning how to be more effective in using technology to influence the public debate. Through our annual convention and other events, we strengthen the community, inspire action and serve as an incubator for ideas that challenge the status quo and ultimately affect change in the public sphere.
etc, etc
Probably not very influential. But Bad Ideas don't have to be.
-
Ah OK. I was just seeing people tweeting about dumb comment so wasn't even sure if it was repeating it to spread around or "I can't believe someone said this" so I figured I'd ask.
-
From what I saw there was a good mixture of people who thought it was insightful vs a perfect example of post modern inanity.

But Bad Ideas don't have to be.

A campaign worker making calls for the Hillary Clinton campaign Friday evening called police after she reached one local household and heard screaming and a gunshot.
...
The campaign worker had the address and called 9-1-1. Police responded in force - especially after the 9-1-1 operator could not reach the residents by phone.

Ugh, couldn't watch the end of that video. It looks painful as hell. Can't people trim their nails without a robot that takes 30 minutes (and requiring you to soak to soften the nail)?
-
I watched the video. It's not a robot. It's more like... a corkscrew. And it's for straightening toenails, it seemed.
Definitely belongs in this thread.
