I'm a much more casual biker. We did 85 miles and door to door was about 12 hours with about 8 hours bike time.

@Karla Spent 8 hours on a bike...casual biker...?
Sure, you're more casual than the TdF, but that's like saying "I'm a more casual drinker than @Polygeekery" or "I'm a more casual mass murderer than Stalin." It's quite a low bar to hurdle.

I used to race. Never those kind of stages though! (If you had to go, you just got dropped - we made sure we emptied before the race!)
My fastest ride (not race) was 160mi in 6.5hr. The first 100 was in 3.5hr. Ok, we "cheated". It was a tail-wind ride! Damn that was fun! Nowadays, I'd be hard pressed to survive a 100k ride...

I only did that once because husband and friends used to go every year. Those last 30 miles are killer.
Sure, you're more casual than the TdF, but that's like saying "I'm a more casual drinker than @Polygeekery"
This would probably be true as well.

I stopped and got off the bike.
You'd think there was at least a small demand for bike seats with a slit for just this kind of thing, but then you'd have to be wearing clothing with an appropriate slit to mate with the seat as well, and apparently that's too immodest...
"Too immodest"? For a cyclist? I'm sorry, I don't understand whatever language it is you're speaking....

When I did RAGBRAI, I can tell you those 4 hours (or whatever they were for us) were spent heartily making sure we could fill the urinal... (Most people know that as the "Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa". Some of us know it as "Register's Annual Great Beer Ride Across Iowa")

Never said that was all we were doing. The trip was to and from a state park so we stayed there for a bit as well as other just rest stops.

100k is the longest ride I've ever done. I no longer have any idea how much time it took, but it was slow β there were plenty of rest and food stops along the way β including the self-described "world's slowest pace line" climbing from the coast back to Silly Valley. It was a "long" 100k β in reality probably more like 105 or 110 β with 4000 feet of climbing; the ride director said she had not approved that route. With riding to and from the start/end, I figure I rode about 75 miles. Went home, took a nap, then went dancing. I couldn't do that now, though. 7.5 miles would probably kill me.

It sounded like a great idea. Scientists applying the scientific method. But they rolled back and froze the policy of Minnesota to ca. 1970, something about ensuring a control group for psychometrics.

-
@Karla eh, it was about the MMPI but whatever
-
-
@Tsaukpaetra that's the one: a well-known broad-spectrum psychometric tool whose control groups are in Minnesota ; Major Motion Picture Industry was chosen as the name so as not to interfere with the control group in Minnesota by tipping them off.

Computer memory is based in silicon.
Which means that when something exists only in digital form and not as a printed hardcopy, it technically is carved in stone.

Make people thinking be tricked into rocks?
I'm sure there's a procedure for that actually...
-
@Luhmann Oh no an incorrect recollection whatever will I do.
-
@da-Doctah yes, agreed, although this is the IT equivalent of "my hand can touch everything but itself", BUT where's the carving? most of the time, you are charging a bit of doped silicon. I am not saying there isn't carving happening but I'm not up to straining an analogy enough to say there is.
