If you’re no good at knitting, you can buy a fake wasp nest, or three, on Amazon:
crochet ≠ knitting
Politifact score: Mostly False
-
@M_Adams Oh, you're just knitpicking.
-
@Zecc I’m purlly reporting the facts. No knits here.

I may buy one of those!

Also, hornets ≠ wasps. I don't see hornets in my neck of the woods, but the wasps are a perennial problem. Once had to endure an enormous yellowjacket sitting back on his haunches to watch me make a sandwich before I upended a cup over him and took him away (I know better than to smack them because of the pheromone an injured yellowjacket emits that brings all the rest of his hive in battle-mode to either defend or avenge him).
Damn thing just sat there like he owned the place.

Fell on a log full of them when I was a kid. I had a 2 1/2 mile run home through the woods inside a cloud of them.
I’ve been chased by bears but even considering that, yellowjackets are the only creature I actually fear. Not bees not wasps, not even “normal” hornets, spiders, snakes, lynx, wolves, crocs, whatever (I’ve had encounters with most wildlife) only yellowjackets.

These neighbors adjusted their fence so they could enjoy a beer together with social distance

@JBert Needs bar stools.

@Mason_Wheeler I'm not sure this is the thread for that. Typically, such novelties are made of the cheapest, lowest-quality milk chocolate, which is not a good idea.
Edit: Also, I can't make out any key labels in that picture, but what's with that column of keys at the far right?
-
@HardwareGeek Something like this:
Judging from r/MechanicalKeyboards, the extra keys are
pretty randomchosen carefully by the keyboard customizer.
-
@Parody That's the kind of nonsense you have to do when creating such abominations as keyboards with fewer than 104 keys

-
@dkf That's easily fixed by snacking at your desk

Take

one step further and actually call itFnord
. I can't believe nobody's made the fnord qua fnord into a movie yet.

Wanted: an app that uses AI to categorize my phone's image collection into SFW and NSFW buckets.
-
@error INB4
-
Seriously, I can't just flip through my phone's gallery in polite company. If I want to show someone something I have to like, leave and come back when I've found the specific image, and then hover over them to make sure they don't click next image.
-
Just move the NSFW stuff into a different folder?
-
@Zerosquare said in The Good Ideas Thread:

Yes, that's what I want: a program to classify and move 1000s of pictures into SFW and NSFW folders.
-
I know this technology exists because SafeSearch is a thing.
-
@error Why do you keep 1000s of pictures on your phone?
-
@HardwareGeek said in The Good Ideas Thread:

Why do we have thousands of posts in the Status Thread? Same reason.
Shit accumulates.
-
-
@error Every once in a while, long before 1000s of pictures accumulate, I connect my phone to my computer and move stuff to longer-term storage.
@error said in The Good Ideas Thread:

I thought you weren't into that.

I have a lot of images I want to algorithmically classify.
You should move them to a computer. They still won't be classified, but at least you won't be able to find them.
-
Solution: post your pictures in the NSFW thead, then use NodeBB search to find them.
Oh wait, this is the Good Ideas Threads. Never mind...

I've solved that by letting people flip around and embarrass themselves by seeing NSFW stuff. Most people that know me knows not to look at stuff beyond what I show them on my phone. Or computers for that matter.
But I actually had some image sorting software 10-15 years ago that could actually sort pictures by such criteria pretty well. It also had facial recognition.
-
I guess There's An API For That®, but it involves uploading all my images to Google.
Edit: Wait, no. Batch image annotation offline
OK, new side-project.
Editedit: Wait, no, "offline" here means... something else. This still happens "in the cloud."
Also, not free, but pretty cheap

You mean reuploading.

Could have been.

@Mason_Wheeler A faucet pointing straight out may be a good idea for pranking easily-tricked people and/or very young children, but other than would be somewhat impractical
-
@hungrier A lot depends on whether the water actually comes out the "end" or if it comes out the bottom like a normal faucet and the end is merely decorative.
-
@da-Doctah Even if it comes out of the end, as long as the flow is limited so that it pours out and doesn't shoot out, it'd be fine.
-
@HardwareGeek I just reread the preceding post, due to an notification, without the context. I got an entirely different meaning from "it comes out of the end".
