THE BAD IDEAS THREAD

@hungrier Now I'm wondering if @Tsaukpaetra ever worked on Chinese-English translation software.

@hungrier said in THE BAD IDEAS THREAD:
why is everything fucked in Chinese
That's an impressive article.
Let me summarize it:
When they did their orthography reforms, the commies just fucked it up by creating the ambiguous character干
. If they just stayed with traditional chinese, like Taiwan, that would not happen.Let me comment:
This is proof that capitalism (Taiwan) is bad.
For our entertainment.

Fuck the IUDs until they explode!
Is this a reference?
乾爆鴨子 Dry fried spicy duck
乾爆 is to fry the ingredients until most of the moisture at the surface removed. Usually lots of spice such as chili, ginger, pepper, etc. will be added.
干 is the Shared simplified Chinese with 乾. And 干 in Traditional Chinese means "Do something", and also means "fuck".
爆 means explosion. However when used on cuisines it means to fry ingredients with high heat setting.
When it's used in the format of "干爆~" it means "to fuck the ass / cunt of ~ until he/she exploded". Since usually menu like this is done without context, I would say the translation work is pretty accurate. :P
I'll also add that while search 乾爆 in Google Search correctly return result for the Sichuan Cuisine style, Bing Search returns all the result for digital currency (Presumably 爆 is 包 in Simplified Chinese with shared character 包, where 包 mean "bun" and also "wallet") and fucking

@Arantor This post sums it up pretty well:

I'm pretty sure that asking Colin Furze to "build some extreme X" is a bad idea for just about all possible values of X.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8c9MNP-ZKg
If Colin thinks it's "way too unsafe", you know it's insanely dangerous.

@HardwareGeek Colin furze fan thread is . Apart from that, agreed.
-
@dcon well, nuts. Internet Archive doesn't give me anything useful either :(

If the idea is simply to slow down thieves so that it's impractical to a steal it in a public place, it's probably effective. The downside is that it would also take the owner a while to retrieve it when it's time to leave. Maybe the owner just forgot his lock that day?
-
@jinpa My guess would be that not-the-owner did it because they were angry with the owner and wanted to seriously annoy the owner.
-
@HardwareGeek Might be a long-term storage option. I lived in a city that would periodically remove "abandoned" bikes outside. They'd first attach a small label to the bike, and if the label was around a few weeks later, the bike got removed.
I'm pretty sure that the people tasked with removing the bikes would pass on that one, regardless of the number of attached labels.

Y'all failed to misundertsand it incorrectly:
it is ART.

@BernieTheBernie Is it? I do not feel mentally reinvigorated

It's better than some of the stuff I've seen in the modern art galleries at the Smithsonian.
-
@jinpa It doesn't include pickled road-kill or urinating on crosses, so it's not Real Art™.

I've taken dumps that are better than a good fraction of modern art, so that bar's not only low, it's buried several miles deep in the ground.

@Boner you could at least use it as a smoker, probably, if regular barrel smokers aren't giving you enough cancer.

If you don't mind the additional blue sauce.

Naw, it's fine, from 250F you got a whole 16 more before HDPE'll actually melt. It may get a little slumpy, but most likely it'll just outgas a lot.
Low n' slow.

I wonder rather the inverse.

Self-contained all-in-one BBQ. Just bring it along, set the plastic on fire, and off you go BBQing.

I still didn't believe it wasn't parody until I clicked the amazon link
it says it's not available, I still think it's an elaborate prank site
-
@sockpuppet7 it says it’s available to me, for the low low price of £129.95, receive within 10 days or so.

Just in case that doesn't embed for you, the title is "'I'm Making History!': Man goes Berserk in Jail After Drinking 40 Instant Coffees". Never mind berserk, never mind jail, never mind the quantity, I'm pretty sure that even those of you drink coffee by the truck-full will agree that instant coffee is a bad idea.

You're wrong, but this is not surprising.
There is a confused / psychomimetic state well past stimulant dosing of coffee, and this guy may have hit it (although it looks more like he's trying to drum up customers). But, it's only as profound an effect as maybe LSD.
Me and my cousin used to sneak out of service and drink the whole congregation's coffee at church. It was percolated, so they hardly knew the difference.
Instant coffee, would have made that double-coffee. And it couldn't have made it worse.

I just had an idea: No-code calculator.
Some people say that coding is hard, and we should make a GUI so that anyone can program by moving blocks with a mouse. But what about arithmetic?
People are notoriously bad at writing complex arithmetic expressions. It's hard to keep track of a lot of parentheses in an arithmetic expression. And what about operator precedence and associativity? What is the value of 2^3^4 and 2/3*4?
So I propse a No-code calculator where you just have blocks with values and operators and connect them together to form a completely unambiguous AST. Wouldn't that be great?
-
@sebastian-galczynski I'm pretty sure this already exists, except as a video game about pseudo-electronics.
-
-
-
@cvi I wasn't going to be the one to say it.
It's that terrible of a game.

Without the operators, it sounds like a derivation of Spencer-Brown's Calculus of Forms. So, probably not so great, except for lunatics.

@JBert If the person who came up with that doesn't break his neck on it, I'd be more than happy to break it for him.

Judging from the home-inspection youtube shorts I've seen...their natural predators are contractors.

Bad idea: Trying to flee ASP.
Incredibly bad idea: Trying to flee ASP on a moped.
