Isn't it? Commenters say it's faked though. Sound is legit, visuals not so much.

It looked pretty good up until things started landing on the ground.

"(Warning: Dumb)"
Despite the fact that this is the bad ideas thread, this warning is on point. Thanks for ruining my faith in humanity this early in the week.
Apparently he had eaten cacti before that. However, this was the first time that he tried to numb the pain by overloading his pain receptors with eating ghost peppers and then sitting in an ice bath.
It's effective, eating a cactus right now isn't that bad.
I did spend $200 on cacti for this video...

So many old programs only run a single thread but modern CPUs have so many cores to offer. Why can't the OS just distribute those programs across cores anyway; they'd be so much faster!

It's complicated.... *looks at thread title* Oh, carry on....

Who cares about pain receptors? What about the fucking cactus spines stuck down your throat?

Eat more ghost peppers to dislodge them?
-
@anonymous234 And what receives the pain from the cactus spines?

@pie_flavor
You'll never have to worry about the pain again, the Darwin Award you'll receive makes you immune to pain.

@Zecc I'm sure that, given time, a turbine might mill its commutator brushes.
I've no explanation for "fan". Do turbines typically have some sort of ventilation on the back like bigger motors do?
Don't those turbines usually use brushless generators?

The bigger ones are usually doubly-fed induction generators (so they can run efficiently at different speeds), so there are slip-rings/brushes.

Create a thread like Reddit's /r/roastme threads, on this forum

Not for the thin-skinned, that's for sure.

That seems rather redundant.

For a job listing, this seems like a bad idea to include as a bullet point
Work within a fast-paced environment with constantly shifting priorities
(no idea what industry as this is a recruiter's posting)

Depends on whether you lìke it rare, medium, well done or lumps of carbon.

That isn't the first meaning of the word roast that comes to mind when it comes to reddit...

With a report rate up to 240Hz and response time of just 43.5ms, our ultra-low latency touch provides the fastest input response for a serious competitive edge in action games, shooters, and RPGs.
Jebus. 43.5ms latency. That sounds like forever. And that 240Hz (= every 4.2ms) polling frequency seems ridiculously overspecced.
-
@cvi So it reports touches 10 times faster than it can read them? That makes sense.
It does say "World’s Lowest Latency Touch". So I guess touch screens are just slow. That's probably one of the many reasons why people don't use them for competitive gaming.
-
@anonymous234 said in THE BAD IDEAS THREAD:

Not necessarily. Don't know if the mechanics of a touch screen don't work this way, but it could be sending updates every 4.2 ms that take 43.5 ms to be received.
Like how I'm sure a server can send out packets faster than 10 Hz just because my latency is 100 ms.
-
@kazitor said in THE BAD IDEAS THREAD:

Servers can probably send out packets at 10kHz or faster, split across all clients. At that sort of speed, it depends on bandwidth including the spending on various levels of message framing overhead…

I think the idea is to weed out candidates who could not adapt to that. The ad's not saying constantly shifting priorities are a good thing, just that they're a fact of working there, and not to bother applying if that will be an insurmountable problem for you.

Or, the ad was in part written by someone inside the company (you know, like "oh hey [minion], send me a write-up for recruiting your replacement before you leave tonight"), and this is the perfect red flag, phrased so that robo-recruiters only see mumble-jumble (not so different from, uh, say,"proactively utilize artificial intelligence paradigm to externalize company value") while actual people immediately correctly read "this place is hell".

A Mandelbrot set renderer in pure CSS.
I'm sure it's possible.
-
@anonymous234 How pedantically do you define "render"?
background-image: url(mandelbrot.png); background-image: url("data:image/png;base64,WW91IGFic29sdXRlIG5lcmQu[…]");

Image-free version:
background-color: black;
(rendered resolution: 1x1)

In addition to deducting hit points, put the RPG character in a risk group for a late-life disease.
"Your rogue jumped down from a high place, that would be -10hp and 50% risk of chronic knee pain in 10 years"
"Not only the critical hit takes a half of your 13 lvl barbarian's HPs, it also means that he will most probably die from brain amyloids. Assuming he survives this encounter, that is."

Wait, Detective Pikachu 2?

Apparently songs about shooting people from the rival gangs in the street. That's what fits in a Sonic movie, right?
