Poll: Smoking cigarette in this century.
-
[poll]
- Yes. I don't smoke.
- No. I smoke regularly.
- Other.
[/poll]
I am noticing that most of you are afraid to try smoking tobacco as it mess with your brain. I think that is myth published by media. Smoking clears brain and helps me solve puzzles faster. So, the title of this poll is "Are you afraid to smoke cigarettes?"
I smoke irregularly. Sometime I go with no cigarette for 3 weeks. Someday I smoke more than 3 cigarette in one hour.
-
Who is worried about tobacco messing with his brain? I've never heard this before.
-
"Do you smoke"
- Yes, I don't smoke.
- No, I do smoke.
- My smoking status cannot be defined as a boolean.
-
What about cigars, pipes and other smoke-able items?
Filed under: legal ones, of course
-
Third option is for users who smoke irregular pattern.
-
Should have replace word cigarette with tobacco.
-
I work for a company that does cancer testing, so yeah...
-
Poll: Will Nagesh ever stop making polls?
- Yes
- No
- Not after I find out where he lives
-
Who is worried about tobacco messing with his brain? I've never heard this before.
Have you not reason then to bee ashamed, and to forbeare this filthie noveltie, so basely grounded, so foolishly received and so grossely mistaken in the right use thereof? In your abuse thereof sinning against God, harming your selves both in persons and goods, and raking also thereby the markes and notes of vanitie upon you: by the custome thereof making your selves to be wondered at by all forraine civil Nations, and by all strangers that come among you, to be scorned and contemned. A custome lothsome to the eye, hatefull to the Nose, harmefull to the braine, dangerous to the Lungs, and in the blacke stinking fume thereof, neerest resembling the horrible Stigian smoke of the pit that is bottomelesse.

That should be its own thread so we can vote on it.
-
I'm not yet a chain smoker, but awfully close - especially since Marlboro dropped their nicotine content in Reds (again!).
I do have an e-cig, mostly because I can't smoke in my apartment and can't be arsed to walk three floors down for each cigarette. But I still enjoy the taste of tobacco, so I don't see myself fully quitting anytime soon.
My smoking status cannot be defined as a boolean.

I have never smoked anything and I don't plan on starting. Might as well just smoke $20 bills, would be cheaper and probably healthier than modern mass-produced cigarettes.
-
And nicotine improves memory and learning.
I smoked for a long time, starting when I went to college, and for years after that. I quit, recently. I don't plan on smoking again.
You can get the same benefits from nicotine patches.
Check out the BBC Documentary "Addicted to Pleasure - Smoking"

Might as well roll home-grown tobacco in $20 bills.

I do smoke the occasional cigar (probably 2 or fewer per year at this point in life). I really like the taste and smell of tobacco. For insurance purposes, I always check non-smoker.
-
I grew up with a mother who chain smokes. The smell disgusts me. I never had any interest in trying it.
-

Should probably switch to that myself. But that makes it harder to find an excuse to take a random walk which I believe helps me more when I get stuck than nicotine itself.
Caffeine, however, shall only ever be ingested in liquid and bitter form.

I have never smoked a cigar. Beedi is cheap and readily available in all corners of my country.

Try an e-cig, if you can. All the benefits of nicotine patches, plus the actual feeling of smoking. Just avoid the "tobacco" flavors - they're mostly marketing bullshit.
Caffeine, however, shall only ever be ingested in liquid and bitter form.
Unless you want the bordering-on-lethal dose. I used to pop caffeine pills like breath mints, now I mostly limit myself to a huge cup of coffee and an occasional Red Bull imitation for $0.60 per litre.
-
Red Bull imitation for $0.60 per litre.
What's it called?
-
What's it called?
Every supermarket here has its own brand, but they're mostly same stuff. It tastes very similar, has an equal caffeine content, pretty much the whole "ingredients" part matches the one of Red Bull, and yes, that's a 1-liter bottle.
-
I have a few friends who occasionally smoke cigars. I can't stand cigarette smoke but cigar smoke doesn't bother me.
-
Caffeine is a separate issue.
-
What about cigars, pipes and other smoke-able items?
Or e-cigs. With sub-options of with or without nicotine.
Might as well just smoke $20 bills
Depends on the cost of the tobacco. I can (legally) get 1kg of tobacco leaf for the equivalent of ~$50 which lasts me about 3 months.

Makes even less sense than decaf and non-alcoholic beer IMHO.
Not for those trying to give up nicotine it doesn't...

Yet another example of biased polling from @Nagesh. What of those of us who don't fear smoking, but merely don't for health reasons? For example, someone might choose not to smoke because they don't want lung cancer. Someone else might choose not to smoke because they have asthma. And others may choose not to smoke for financial reasons, as @mott555 pointed out.
In short: @Nagesh, stop the damn polls that are worse than meaningless.

All that translate to fear only.

Two fear have been mentioned by you. Fear of poverty, this is greatest fear known to mankind, possible second only to fear of death.

I intended to post a link to anti-synesthesia drugs but I couldn't find any.

Ok, so based on that logic, then every decision any person makes is dictated by fear. So tell me Nagesh, what fear drives you to use tobacco?

Clearly, the fear of being afraid of not using tobacco.

Yes, all excitement also caused by fear. Now my fear is that if I don't smoke, I will live to long age and get bored in later life. Better enjoy life now as it comes.
-
Now my fear is that if I don't smoke, I will live to long age and get bored in later life.
I almost posted this... as a clearly sarcastic answer.
-

Thought of this after my first reply: there are several fears I can think of that are greater than the fear of poverty:
- Fear of being alone - People go very far out of their way to find companionship, even giving up opportunities to improve wealth.
- Fear of being forgotten - It's not uncommon for people who are think they are dying to give everything away in a last ditch chance to be remembered.
- Fear of death - You mentioned this as possibly being greater than the fear of poverty. I don't think any would rather be rich and dead than alive and just squeaking by.
I'm sure there are many more I could come up with, but I wanted to get something up here for you quick.

You clearly have a pitiful outlook on life to believe that everything is driven by fear. That's got to suck.
[sarcasm]And just remember, even while you're enjoying life, that joy is just your fear in disguise[/sarcasm]
-
You clearly have a pitiful outlook on life to believe that everything is driven by fear. That's got to suck.
Perhaps I am having that outlook, but I am more honest to my feelings. That alone give me much joy. Unfortunately everything we do is truly driven by fear. You are also correctly listing some fears. I have others.
Fear of not being liked. Much same as fear of being alone. People will go to great distance to get liked.
Fear of failure. This is truly big and everyone suffer from this fear. Studying more than everyone else in class to get first rank.
Fear of losing control. Same fear that prevent people from not jumping out of airplane or going to hike up Mount Everest. Mostly people do not like to lose control. I think we can make a brillant list just between us.I can also think of many more, but now I go to catch my bus or I fear I will have to stay here till 7:00 AM in morning.
-
I wasn't just listing fears for the fun of it. I was trying to show that you incorrectly rank the fear of poverty. Try re-reading that post and see if you get it this time.

Four words: chocolate coated coffee beans.
-
-
They're one of the most awesome things on this earth, combining the power of methylxanthine and theobromine in one small, snackable package. It is probably to the best that they're expensive and hard to get hold of or I'd be in serious trouble with ODing. They're not safe for pets, toxic to various common garden critters, and the most glorious snack food ever.
I usually make do with normal chocolate bars and black filter coffee; I'm trying to cut back to levels of consumption close to those of average people.
-
I'm sure there are many more I could come up with, but I wanted to get something up here for you quick.
Not to mention the common stuff like public speaking and heights.
