Something funny (also IVRs and physics pendantry)

The speed of light doesn't change, that is, when a photon is moving it is always at c regardless of medium. It may appear slower but that's because the photon is absorbed by the material and re-emitted some time later.
TIL. Despite having an engineering degree and having taken relevant Physics classes, including Solid State Physics, I never knew this.

I nearly dual-majored in Physics and Computer Science, but only got the CS degree because of the cost of college. However I made sure my electives were set up to be beneficial should I ever go back for a physics degree. I think if I returned to the same college it would only be 20 - 25 hours of classes, probably more because Calculus III is a requirement and I would almost certainly have to re-take Calc II because I haven't touched that since my freshman year and don't remember it.
All that to say I really enjoy physics.

voice response
Strangely the term IVR is way older then something that actually, you know responses to your voice.

It doesn't mean she's crazy, she just performs this way.

ah. good to know that i got the performer correct. but did you have to pick that song?

This wasn't thought out very well
Slight understatement sinceall UK telephone numbers start with 0
Is rather international and not only UK

Poaching chicken is easy. It involves covering chicken pieces with water and letting them simmer on the stovetop until the chicken is cooked through. The low temperature and moist-heat cooking method cooks the chicken gently and prevents it from overcooking too quickly.
woosh?
You're obviously doing it on purpose.

I enjoyed the Physics classes I had to take, although the math got hairy for the more advanced ones, and I'm glad I didn't have to take more than I did. The one thing I regretted about not being a Physics major is that we got to use liquid nitrogen in some of our labs, but the Physics majors got to use liquid helium. That lab was also the cause of my personal experiment in hallucination due to sleep deprivation while trying to write up late lab reports at the end of the term.

Well, yeah, but the only people calling us are going to be UK-based with UK telephone numbers.

Probably designed by a 'Murican; no US domestic phone numbers begin with 0.

Hello TartarSauce. you're cetrtainly getting around today. you must be feeling better?

no US domestic phone numbers begin with 0.
I was originally going to say that all sane phone numbering systems start with a 0.
-

Probably, but I find it staggering that no-one through requirements, design and testing of the thing thought "Oh, but telephone numbers start with a 0" when we're a Telco and one of the things we sell to customers is telephone lines.

That's cause 0 gets you the operator here.

You know, I hated math for the sake of math, but if there was physics involved it didn't bother me a bit. I guess I enjoyed math if there was some kind of non-abstract problem involved.

We're sorry. All circuits are busy. Please hang up and try your request again.*CLICK!*FTFY

Only new ones created after touch tone dialing was a thing, I'd guess.

I hope something like that works for my son. He loved Physics in high school, and decided that's what he wanted to major in in college (with the intent of teaching), but he's always struggled a bit with Math.

It's like a truck moving 70 mph but makes a stop at every single exit. It's still going 70 mph when it's in transit.

For context, the below comment was deleted, undeleted, and then edited once because I wanted to test out a discoursistancy. Seems to have worked well. Can I now summon @discoursebot with this post? I doubt it.
EDIT: O_________________________O

Nope, it lies and says I only edited twice.

I was precisely the opposite. Lost interest if it threatened to become applied rather than playing around with pure maths
