The Official Status Thread

I completely believe that. The FAQ answer probably means "we aren't smart enough to figure out how to do it."
Too bad nobody would step up and fork it.

STATUS:
Fuck you, Excel. Fuck you with a rusty spoon.
ah, so you have the opposite problem i have when dealing with YAML written using many popular Windows based tools:
-
It's shitty in a LOT of ways. The only reason anybody ever uses it is because it has decent noise cancellation for free.
SoundForge is hugely superior, but they charge like $250 for the noise cancellation plugin.

STATUS Time to move to a new adobe but... I hold the opinion that recruiters in our industry are for the most part worse than useless. I'm beginning to suspect the same of letting agencies in the housing market.

You guys must live in the cheap US.
You can't get anything for lunch for less than $10 in Seattle.
Well, if you're spending under $10, you're going to McD's or the like, as I said. If you go to a sub shop or a burger joint or something, factoring in fries or chips and a drink you're looking at $10-12, everywhere I've ever lived.

Isn't Creative Cloud like a subscription service these days?

I know some guys that do a podcast andv record in Audacity. They do a recurring Drunken Trivia episode. Basically, imagine drunk Jeopardy.
Anyway, the last recording of that - almost 3 hours of raw drinking and being idiots, Audacity clapped out. Totally shit the bed.
After a few hours of fiddling, we were able to recover everything but the last 2 minutes. Which we cheated and rerecorded.
-
I'd do "sawk-pay-truh" because there ain't no fuckin' vowels in "ts" and therefore the t is silent.
Well, yeah you say it like that, but your tongue is supposed to start your "s" sound like it was just finished doing "t".
It's similar to how you start out saying "dremel" with your tongue in the "d" position but say "remel".It's £30 for a 4 core 1GB hackable computer, ok!?
Funny how those credit-card computers are out-performing this 14-year-old beast I recently had the misfortune of acquiring.....
-
I know some guys that do a podcast andv record in Audacity.
I hope they turn off that idiotic auto-level feature Audacity loves to ruin recordings with. I use SoundForge specifically because it doesn't try to be "helpful" and dick with your system volume.
After a few hours of fiddling, we were able to recover everything but the last 2 minutes. Which we cheated and rerecorded.
That's because it stores stuff in your temp folder in like 4 MB chunks. Probably only the last chunk was corrupted in your case. And yes, Audacity crashes all the time, too. I never open a file with it unless I have a copy.
Like I said, it's a terrible program. The only reason anybody uses it for anything is it does free noise cancellation.
-

"drem" is a perfectly cromulent syllable in English.

'Tis why I used it as an example. :D

You described it as if the dr combination was some rare weird thing people needed instructions on how to pronounce.
Whatever, I don't care. Get a better username.

STATUS FFS Amazon!
I clicked on a link in someone's blog about two weeks ago that took me to this
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001E4E6E2It has being two weeks I think you should take the hint amazon. Also my mother already has a kindle. It's attached to my account and named mother. Why my mother still labels her stuff as mother is another good unasked question.

Just wait until she goes about renaming things "Grandma" or somesuch!

Status: so I was setting up a NodeBB instance on a version that supposedly has group private messages, but while I was doing that they released 1.0
-
they released 1.0
Wat. "Oh, looks like things are ready to leap to the first Major version!"
Well that's dandy!
-
To be fair, Discourse's first tagged version was v0.8.2 and NodeBB's first tagged version was v0.0.3.
-
irst tagged version was v0.8.2
So they apparently did a ton of internal "development" before uploading to source control?!
Actually, I'm not even mad.
-
I think their excuse was something along the lines of "we put a bunch of passwords in the source code at some point because we have no idea how to run a project."
-
Believe it or not they have an FAQ page that basically says, "Audacity will never be multi-threaded, stop asking." OPEN SOURCE QUALITY!
Please. What use could there POSSIBLY be for more than one core in a data-processing application.

This gave me a
weirdhorrifying thought: What if .WAV files were split up into their sampled parts and inserted as records in a database? Then you could parallelize it to death with the complicated formulas you'd need to do anything with it, right?

Of course you would wonder that, you are still running XP on a P4 Northwood.
-
That's the first time I meet someone who's addicted to mascara.
You never had emo people in Belgium?

Emo? That's like Goth but with designer cloths, no?
-
who the fuck pays $6 a day for lunch?
I usually have leftovers or a sandwich, but if I go out to lunch it usually starts at $15 and goes up from there. The other day was stressful and I had two beers with lunch and it was closer to $30.
If I am buying lunch for a group...you don't even want to know.
-
-
you are still running XP on a P4 Northwood.
I tried installing XP on a Gateway desktop recently actually. Worked fine, except whatever onboard graphics it has is completely unrecognizable to it, and I can't get any better than 4-bit color at 640x480 until I look at the hardware IDs....
Of course, It works just fine if I use Remote Desktop.

Status: I was really excited for the minecraft update that's come out today. Amongst a bunch of cool things, you can now choose to be left-handed, which I'd wanted for ages.
It didn't give me an option to update or not, just did it, but it's apparently not compatible with the previous version, because I can't get on the server I play on as it hasn't been updated yet.
-
but it's apparently not compatible with the previous version
Welcome to every Minecraft update ever?
-
And now I'm wondering how he makes guacamole ...
-
Welcome to every Minecraft update ever?
I've always wondered at that. Seriously, is the network protocol changing that significantly that a minor release means "Oops, no game for you!"?
-
It's because the server needs to know about the game assets as well.
Why you ask?
-
Welcome to every Minecraft update ever?
Yes but in the past non-backwards compatible updates always asked me if I wanted to update.
-
Given the general wtfiness of minecrap, I am pretty sure the network protocol is "pass naively serialized objects back amd forth"
-
Welcome to the future, where server modding doesn't exist so there's no reason to not be on the current Minecraft version
-
"pass naively serialized objects back amd forth"
That's not far from the truth, from what I remember...
-
It's because the server needs to know about the game assets as well.
The server doesn't know what game assets the client has? Doesn't it send resource packs for that very reason?
Or am I off base a bit?
Or is displaying a "Texture not found" texture on an object beyond the capabilities of the meager Minecraft application?
-
-
So they apparently did a ton of internal "development" before uploading to source control?!
Actually, I'm not even mad.
Well, their first commit was a "Hello World" exercise to practice with. They didn't want that to be public, if it were we would know that it took them 843 commits to get it under 8GB of RAM usage.

Status: YouTube now lets you pick, while uploading a new video, whether it goes to YouTube or YouTube Gaming.
Note that is an or, not an and choice.
The tooltip gives the following explanation:
Your video is available across all YouTube products, but you can choose where people will view it.
... huh?
Am I the only one who thinks that's gibberish? So the video can be viewed on all YouTube "products" (whatever that means?), but I can also choose where people will view it. Aren't those two things mutually-exclusive?
What even is a YouTube "product"? Their own product is advertising space. And that dumb Red subscription I guess.
-
to YouTube or YouTube Gaming
So in other words, choose where it appears in people's subscription lists or whatever, but the video is still accessible either way at youtube.com/?v=G8biaeb09 then?
They could certainly have worded it better...
-
It probably means that if they search on YouTube (or subscribe or whatever) and click the video, the video page will get YouTube gaming branding (or redirect or whatever), and vice versa.
It's not gibberish, you just need to think like a branding droid
-
Am I the only one who thinks that's gibberish?
It might not be gibberish, but I'm not sure, because I do not understand the difference between YouTube and YouTube Gaming.
-
Other than having a grid interface and a black background, I'm not even sure what YouTube Gaming even is. Like, why would a video have to be specifically marked to "go" there? What's my incentive to do that? Why can't the video be on both normal YouTube and YouTube Gaming? Except it says it can. Then in the next sentence it implies it can't.
Their explanation opens up about 45,000 questions and answers zero.
-
I'm going to try switching The Last Warlock to YouTube Gaming and see what happens-- oh wait I can't. Apparently you can only do that WHILE the video's uploading? Not after?
Jesus YouTube, you are so awful at running a website.
EDIT: oh wait, IN THE UPLOAD WINDOW (which happens to be still open because I have like 4-5 more videos queued), if you toggle it to YouTube Gaming, the URL changes to this:
However, you can't save that change. The Save icon just turns to "Saving..." but never actually finishes. So I still think YouTube legit forgot to implement any way of switching that setting after the video is uploaded and processed.
-
It might not be gibberish, but I'm not sure, because I do not understand the difference between YouTube and YouTube Gaming.
I got you beat because not only do I not understand that, I also don't understand what a "YouTube product" is.
-
-
You know I bet all it does is, when YouTube notifies you the video went live, it controls which link gets published. Whether it's the normal YouTube.com/32743217 link or the gaming.youtube.com/437284623 link.
If my guess is true, then it explains why you can't change it after the video's been published already.
EDIT: nope, I just played around with Crash Drive 2, which was uploaded but not yet published. No way to change that setting there. So... good job YouTube, you are A+ number 1 video site once again. I'm sure you'll get around to fixing your broken-ass playlists ONE of these decades, too.
-
That makes sense, I guess, but this is the first I even knew that gaming.youtube.com is a thing.
