I ran into a case of extremely slow deleting a couple months back. Turned out eventually that the folder was indexed, the indexer needed to read the file data to remove the file from the index, which mcafee saw as reason to scan the file.
That was on linux though. Ended up disabling indexing on that folder - I don't use the indexed search, and definitely not on that folder.

Status: Uninstalling Visual Studio 2013 and all the other random things it installed with it so I can install 2015 and not have to figure out which random things are from the new one and which are from the old one.
i learned long ago that visualstudio = VM
it's always better to install it in a VM so you can cleanly uninstall it from the host system by pressing "delete"

Yah the new compiler has a few breaking changes this time around. Very annoying.
-
I don't feel like going through all the warnings, but from what I saw while glancing at the compile log, it looks like a lot of them are "this variable you defined shadows a member of a class that isn't even in the same hierarchy".

Status: wanted to write a library to help with the CADT development model, but nobody would use it and I'd probably end up starting over multiple times before giving up.

Status: Just woke up at midnight to severe storms and complete power loss, and the associated screaming backup batteries. I am now scrambling to install the VMware client on my laptop so I can safely shut down my game server before it powers down. Meanwhile, since my router, switch, and WAP are also on the backup battery, I can browse WTDWTF when I have no electricity.

Dude, it's a game server, why are you losing sleep over it?

STATUS:
My PCI TV Card seems to be busted.
Turns out they had not cleaned away all the old computers and stuff yet, so I salvaged the PCI TV card for you. It's a Hauppage WinTV-Nova-T-DVB-T PCI. Can't find the remote for it, though.
Are you still interested?

Status: Time to leave Seattle tomorrow. Enjoyed my trip again, even if I didn't get to spend much time with the people I knew.
EMP museum's Star Wars exhibit is sorely lacking a full size Jabba the Hutt. Otherwise just as good as last year.
EDIT: Also the living computer museum was pretty sick. I'm glad I went.

Maybe it's running TI5 and there's 18.4 million dollars riding on it?

Thanks dude, but I got the old one working with driver reinstall & restart. Seems to have been a software problem.

>I've come up with a set of rules that describe our reactions to technologies:
- Anything that is in the world when you’re born is normal and ordinary and is just a natural part of the way the world works.
- Anything that's invented between when you’re fifteen and thirty-five is new and exciting and revolutionary and you can probably get a career in it.
- Anything invented after you're thirty-five is against the natural order of things.

Don't let your brain jellify.
Family-unit was starting new Lego project and the spawn were kidding around about how old I am and how primitive Lego was when I was a kid...
Spawn: "...LOL... a Stormtrooper was just a white brick and Darth Vader was a black brick..."
IJIJ: "No...."Spawn:
IJIJ: "... because Stormtroopers and Darth Vader did not yet exist, my child."
... but otherwise. yes, that would have been all I could do. So. Yea, basically, no people in my Lego childhood.

People get crabby when the Minecraft world gets corrupted and they lose everything. Which is actually kind of funny because they're normally supportive of my regular world resets when everyone gets bored and quits playing, but I guess we're not to that stage yet this time.

No shits are given.

BTW, Were there black Lego bricks in your childhood? I don't remember them before my teens.

The bigger issue for me at the time was getting it shut down so I could turn off the batteries and go back to sleep. That beeping noise would drive me insane.
-
Just turn off the thing and blame the power company. Ain't nobody's gonna check.
See I didn't get any sleep last night, either, but at least I have a good reason: I stayed up way too late playing Rocket League.
-

I don't rightly remember... I think so?
I had some 2x2 blocks with grooves for a small axle... they were black, maybe/probably.
I certainly don't remember thinking... "Rats. I wish had black bricks."

Still amazed at how unfun Kerbal Space Program is at version 1.x compared to how amazingly fun it was during the betas.
You should see if it's still possible to build an Orion plane.

Another reason to not get started early: My first meeting today was with a company that turns their a/c off over the weekends. They need to adjust their controls to kick it back on earlier on Mondays. Fuck-all I was sweaty.

Aren't you running AromaBackup or something?
-
Also it's Minecraft, who gives a shit?
You just think how you'd feel if you got your Terraria submarine--either version--all fixed up the way you want it and someone deleted your world.
-
Nope, no backups whatsoever. Even better, the Minecraft VM is not stored on the box's RAID-1 array, it's served from a budget no-name refurbished 30 GB SSD I bought for like $15 lol. I like playing with fire.
We're running into disk space issues though, so I'm probably going to replace that SSD with a pair of modern 128 GB's in RAID-1.
-
Nope, no backups whatsoever.
Really? Dude. Get AromaCore and AromaBackup, and it'll automatically make a zip of the save folder every half hour or however you tune it.

I like playing with fire.
Do you play command line russian roulette on those boxes also?

It's a Linux system so I've played that game quite often...haven't died yet though!

Status: apparently the power grid in Poland is currently shitting itself in the heat, so our AC might or might not get cut tomorrow during the business hours.
This is gonna be fun.

so our AC might or might not get cut tomorrow during the business hours.
My reply would be something like, "Then I may or may not spend the rest of the day at the pub."
-
If the, ahem, nice ladies sitting around in the open space are going to kick up as much dust as today as loudly as today, I might just do that.
I think the AC was off for like half-hour by the end of the day. I wouldn't even notice if it wasn't for all the "OH MY GOD WE'RE ALL GONNA FAINT HERE AND DIE WE NEED WATER NOW CALL THE OSH DEPARTMENT" around.

This one had the entire lojban dictionary in every language it supports embedded in it.

Yes, it shows up there, but surely the "truncated" version on GitHub should be truncated somewhere after the first byte.
