other than when i have just booted the computer i almost never see the desktop, there's windows full of the things i'm working on in front of it.
This is why I've never objected to the start screen in 8. I never see my desktop. The start screen does what the desktop historically did, but doesn't lose the locations of things when you launch something after you press Show Desktop.

and even if i had the icons on the desktop i'd have to minimize or move those windows to get at them. it's a lot faster just to hit and start typing the name of the application i want, and i don't have the problem of constantly having to rearrange my windows that way.
I don't know what it is it does.
Saves and restores icon layout at command.
I'd be happy if Windows did what it's doing now, except it also saved my old layout so I can restore it from a menu like this.

You're Doing It Wrong™. Your most commonly used programs should be pinned to the task bar.
-
wot, like these?
(yes, all of those are pinned, including snipping tool)
-
So are you doing
visu
Enter to open Visual Studio?
-
because it's faster than moving the mouse up there, right clicking the icon, moving down to select "Visual Studio 2013" and clicking it to launch a new instance.
i use alt-tab to get to an already running instance
-
because it's faster than moving the mouse up there,
right clicking the icon, moving down to select "Visual Studio 2013"and middle-clicking it to launch a new instance.I doubt that.
Shift+Click also works.
-
As does middle clicking, for those with physical mice or trackpads that support it in some way.
Bah, I didn't see the FTFY. Mobile is a barrier.
-
I doubt that.
hmm... well that will speed it up that shift click trick.
but still. that's on my leftmost monitor. it may be faster if i'm on lefty of centre, but righty is a loooong way from the icon.

He claims he has like 96 of them. Which is utterly ridiculous.
But I've had this debate before, and he claims to have like 96 of them.

I believe the correction I made in the quote points that out:
Bah, I didn't see the FTFY.
But you did see that. Still, I already snipped the quote.
Mobile is a barrier.
Oh, you're on mobile. Yeah, that's different.
-
Your most commonly used programs should be pinned to the task bar.
I'm going to need more task bar.
-
But you did see that.
I saw the edit in the quote after I made my post. Which is why I edited my post to say I didn't see the change.
Status: For some reason our office AC is making it really cold, I didn't get enough sleep last night, and I'm having trouble focusing at work even disregarding those two points.
Still on the fence if today is what I could consider a "good" day.

I don't know, you managed one with Louise in it today, which was simultaneously the first one I recognized that I didn't give you (therefore second overall) and one I hadn't seen yet. Then again, it was Louise, so maybe you do need new ones.

In that case I'd avoid Texas if I were you, at least for the next couple of months.

Watch it and weep, bitch.

for the record.... My desktop with apps minimized to avoid having to go through and censor work related stuff
yes, my centre monitor is portrait.

Or your entire lifetime, if you can.

The Stanley Parable is a "commonly used" application? Bullshit. I've played it, buddy, you ain't pulling the wool over my eyes.

Spring and fall are great here, just pleasantly warm instead of feeling like you stepped into an oven. Winter is a wild roller-coaster ride where, on any given day, it could be 70, it could be 30, or sometimes both within a few hours.

and now, because internet i kind of hate a random swedish guy
i should've gone into an education career

Oh fuck no. That should be summery weather not winter.
I've driven my convertible here with the top down Christmas afternoon twice.

Sounds like winter to me!

Why would you live in such a hellhole willingly
EDIT: also applies to @abarker

Why would you live in such a hellhole willingly
I moved here from Detroit. I basically got tired of winter. A few days a year of it is OK, but not a few months.

2 things:
- Average annual temperature of 72°F. Sure there are some days that get hot, but there aren't that many, and triple digits isn't as bad as a certain fox seems to think. In other words: The weather is great year round!
- Close to (extended) family. My wife grew up here, and most of her siblings are still near Phoenix.
We often exaggerate the hot summers to discourage a rapid influx of people. ;)
As for winter, it's great to have snow to play in, but living in it? No thanks. Phoenix is close enough to Flagstaff that you can go play in the snow all winter, and most of the spring.

i don't twitch.tv..... what?

Vertical monitor in the middle. <img src=https://static-cdn.jtvnw.net/emoticons/v1/33/1.0/ >
I mean, on the side sure. But inbetween the other screens?

That left side are new games I have yet to try.

hey, don't knock it till you've tried it. :-P
the only reason my home rig is all landscape is games have a hard time dealing with non rectangular monitor setups

Your discussion was stupid, you're lucky I made it interesting.
