Swampy seems determined to prove the old adage that the difference between getting committed and getting elected is a trust fund. No commitment order yet, but he definitely isn't getting into office.
For the other side of that equation, see everyone who ran or is running for POTUS this year.
-
@Luhmann OK. Blame Google. I checked to see if it was one of those theater/theatre Brit things, but all of the top hits were French.

Not for the lack of trying... Not sure which thread the details of Swampy's campaign were in, but they're somewhere on this forum.

SSDS is poised to make good use of quantum computing.
Have you considered ditching old binary techniques and using quadnary?
That's easy, all he needs to do is put it on Toshiba's new QLC SSD and it's automatically quadnary. Also, I think there's an RTOS called Quantum. I wonder if it has a VB5 compiler?
We really need to get Swampy, Busco, TempleOS, and HyperTed together in the same thread. The Internet would probably implode.

:O ?
My old friend and (sort-of) mentor, Ted Nelson. While he is actually far from the kind of crackpot that the others are, despite the general consensus about him prior to Tim Berners-Lee getting interested in his ideas, well... he's got what he calls 'butterfly mind', which makes following his train of thought about as easy as trying to catch an actual locomotive while it is in motion at maximum speed, on foot.

Forget trying to catch one, just trying to find one would be quite an achievement. They're almost always in motion on wheels.

Wait, isn't there some guy out there who claims to have 'invented hypertext' in 1988 - a year after HyperCard came out, and ten years after Aspen Movie Map? IIRC, this guy was seventeen when this supposedly happened, meaning he wasn't even born when Nelson first published the term (and even he doesn't take credit for the key idea - like Doug Engelbart, who experimented with it in NLS when not occupied with invented damn near all of modern UX, Ted avers that Vannevar Bush thought of it first, they just hit on the idea of using a computer to make it less cumbersome than Bush's microfiche-based Memex concept, at roughly the same time in 1960-61), so the claim is, shall we say, shaky.

Lately lots and lots. My new 3TB is getting loaded up.. I had a 500GB that was almost full so I seldom used it.. I moved those files over and immediately was randomly watching some of my favorite videos.

I'm asking if your "search" can beat the built-in, default, Windows search.
I don't think it can.
Considering you're building a "desktop search" app, that's pretty much core functionality.

sloosecannon, you must be new around here. Windows search is absolutely useless compared to SSDS because it doesn't have random-random and fast-fast forward. When Windows Search allows you to click "random" and have it execute whatever file it picks up randomly, and in rapid succession, then it will at least tie with Windows Desktop Search.
It doesn't matter if Windows Desktop Search auto-indexes, or searches multiple files, or even lets you execute whatever results you find, if it doesn't have random-random or fast-forward it will be left in the dust.

Built-in means squat...
This app can be started, results examined and exited in under 5 seconds.
By keeping the Start icon in the upper right hand corner the stop and start are in the same spot. Very very fast. Maybe even faster than built-in.

I want to see:
- you saving a large arbitrary text file with a phase at the end.
- opening SSDS
- finding the location of that text file, within... 20 seconds. I'll be generous, since you're probably not running on an SSD, so I'll give you 20 seconds. My example took like 1.

Your showdown is worthless. See, Spectate provides the criteria for the desktop search showdown. If those criteria are to produce a shit that's able to suffocate the Queen of England all the way from Osoyoos, then that's what it is.
There could be a desktop search which pulls in exotic matter and energy from its surroundings to time travel to another point in time to retrieve a file that had since been corrupted without a backup, and SSDS would still win the showdown according to Spectate simply because it doesn't have random-random or any other of his useless features.
