It's probably another @lucas1 is drunk thread.

Oh hai. I'm a little drunk too. Can i squat this thread?
I have a nice stout right now

@Jarry
Whisky.
I'm not sure what is this, but it's expensive, and a gift :D

They're serving expensive whisky in shot glasses? That sucks.

@asdf true that. But it was free, and i don't understand enough about whisky to care

It makes the suffering innate to drinking whisky this much shorter.

Them's fightin' words!
I've got some rope and a nice tree nearby. Anyone want to help me string him up?

Seriously, whisky is horrible. People call it "acquired taste" but that just means "you'll get used to how horrible it is, eventually".
Same goes for cognac, most rums, and all those eastern-european fruit brandys like slivovitz. Blergh.
-
@blek said in Crime Group:

It's definitely something that you either hate or love. But I've managed to convert a few people by letting them try my expensive malts. (I always let them try some Speyside whisky from a sherry cask - whatever I currently have -, Bowmore 18yo and Laphroaig Quarter Cask. If they don't like either, then they're lost souls.)

I hate cognac. Rum always tastes okay, even the cheaper ones. Fruit brandys are the devil, but with a lot of luck you might find a good one that neither tastes like shit nor gives you a terrible headache.

No, no, no. Coffee is an acquired taste. Tonic water is an acquired taste. Dry wine is an acquired taste.
Whisky is Stockholm Syndrome.

@asdf said in Crime Group:

I don't think you'd convert me, I'm opposed to the very idea of whisky. I've tried a few, not exclusive stuff, but not bottom shelf either - JW Red Label, Ballantine's, Jack Daniels I think too - neat, on the rocks, with soda and with Coke, and the only difference is that they're making me gag and run for the nearest toilet bowl in slightly different ways. Same thing with all sweet-ish, strong spirits.
I'll just stick to gin and vodka, thank you very much.
-

We can't go drinking together, clearly.

JW Red Label, Ballantine's, Jack Daniels
Side note: Of those three, only Johnny Walker is 100% malt whisky.

In case of Jack Daniels, I 100% understand. (The other two you mentioned aren't that great, either.)
@Maciejasjmj said in Crime Group:

Not trying to convert you, since you obviously don't like whisky, but unlike Bourbon, Scotch does not necessarily have a sweet aftertaste.
-
@asdf Yah, can't stand Bourbon either.
-
@Yamikuronue If you drink different "classes" of drink, your excuse that you are conducting research becomes more viable. :)
-
@lucas1 Meh, the old version was better, even if it is sorta out of date:

@blek You are drinking shit whiskey.

@lucas1 I'm not drinking any whiskey.

@blek Good it is bad for you.

@loose Bourbon isn't whiskey.
They are different.
-
@Maciejasjmj Whiskey is great if it is something decent on the rocks.
-
@lucas1 Wikipedia disagrees:
-
@Yamikuronue Sorry I don't speak American.
Seriously it doesn't taste the same either.
-
@lucas1 But do you drink it?
-
@Yamikuronue No.
-
@lucas1 Then you are singularly unqualified to speak about Bourbon, good sir.
-
@lucas1 said in Crime Group:

Generally speaking, if the only way you like to drink is with a cold-benumbed tongue, then maybe you don't really like it.
Of course, pointing that out to BMC drinkers has been known to start fistfights, and it would probably garner the same reaction from whiskey drinkers, too.
FWIW, I like single-malt Scotch, and some Irish Whiskey, but I am mostly a craft beer snob.
-
@Yamikuronue When I say I don't drink it, it doesn't mean I haven't drunk it before does it?

@ScholRLEA Stop being a alcohol snob.

What are you talking about? on the rocks??? Coke????
I see where the problem is:
- Get a single malt, I prefer Oban, but one of those Glen.* is also fine
- Pour half a glass.
- Keep in in the air temperature, no ice and certainly no Coke
- Do not drink it, just sip for an hour while listening to a good story, and watching a nice scenery (if possible of course).
- You can take some cheese, or crackers if you want
- Repeat this process every month for one year (do not recommend more, because you may end up an unbearable alcoholic like lucas)
-
@dse Another snob.

@lucas1 said in Crime Group:
@dse Another snob.
Just buy a bottle of anything that's 80 proof and cheap, down it in three gulps, smack it upside the head and start posting on TDWTF, then?
I think I'll go with @dse's suggestion. Seems slightly better (although, since it involves whisky, it's a very slight margin).
-
@Maciejasjmj it tastes like shit
-
@dse said in Crime Group:

Well, I decided that since neat doesn't work for me, perhaps Coke will make it better.
It didn't, it just made it nauseating.

The joke for you thickos was that Wiley had a "Grime Wave" and there was a Harambe "Crime Wave " that involved Mr Trump and Vlad

@lucas1 said in Crime Group:

Excuse us for trying to actually enjoy whisky that costs more than 40€ a bottle instead of drinking it like 10€ vodka. I mean, drink it with ice if you like, but don't call us snobs for actually drinking it the way it was intended to.

I've not been visiting the forum frequently as of late. Is there a "Lucas is drunk" appreciation thread somewhere? If not will someone start a new one ? Will @lucas1 post all his drunken wisdom there ?

I didn't think I could possibly like the flavour of sweetened leather, but by the time I finished a bottle of Highland Park I decided it was something I would try again

Whiskey is only palatable when mixed with equal parts Baileys and Malibu to make the underrated cocktail BMW.
I've occasionally gotten lucky and found a barman who had never heard of it and was prepared to charge the same as single-shot cocktails for it.

What's the point? I'm pretty sure he will not be able to find that thread when he's drunk. (Plus, he doesn't give a shit about what anyone thinks, even when sober.)

Malibu
That stuff is disgusting. Absolutely horrible. I can't possibly imagine a cocktail in which it tastes good.
BTW: I recently had a cocktail with Lagavulin, lemongrass and ginger beer. (Don't remember the exact list of ingredients, I'll have to look it up the next time I'm in that bar.) It was pretty awesome.
