Actually they're just making sure that if you want to install OneNote six months after installing Windows but you lost your CD, you can still do it.

Because it doesn't come in the form of a digital download?

Why would you want to redownload a 3.6 or so GB image just to install one app? Especially since the app's already on your hard drive.
That's why as of Windows 7, the feature is called "turn windows features on or off" and not "install or uninstall windows features'.

You're already doing that every other month or so anyways (so I've been told) so 💧 ?

Wrong-o! If Windows didn't pre-install all the windows components when you installed windows, and you lost your DVD and then decided you needed to install a component, you'd have to download it again. That's why they preinstall everything now. (For the purposes of this discussion I'm ignoring scenarios like "borrowed a disk from someone else").

Oh...I thought you were making a joke. You mean the possibility to just download the bits you need never occurred to you? Especially for something that's an application, like OneNote?
But even system components...why not Windows Update? Aside from the obvious, obviously, but if it's good enough to be mandatory and whatnot, why not?

@boomzilla I have zero manual mental overhead when driving with a proper gears. In the UK that is how you are taught and I do it everyday. It isn't like it is difficult.
- Shift up - clutch down and throttle off ... push into higher gear ... clutch up, accelerator down.
- Shift down - clutch down and throttle off ... go into lower gear ... clutch up, accelerator down.
The only things that are difficult in a modern car is going a hill start ... and that is just 1500+ revs and a biting point and release the handbrake.

Can also write features for the game which don't work and get the ignomy of Inform telling me that, 'There is a Problem'. It even has a capital P. But at least the error messages are relatively helpful.

Go ahead and try to find an installer for the version of OneNote that ships with Windows 10. I'll wait (although I'll be doing other stuff.)
@boomzilla said in The Official Status Thread:

The OneNote that comes with Win10 is probably not the same as the one that comes with Office.
Unless there's not actually a version of OneNote that comes with Windows? Now I'm not sure, because I do have the version that comes with Office.

@Arantor I have been a funerals recently.
It depends what Church and how the relatives want it to proceed.
My grandfather (who I was quite close to) died a week after my birthday this year and he was cremated in 2 weeks after. In our case (a baptist church, even though he and my grandmother were atheists) performed the ceremony. There were a few hymns we had to sing (I don't have a problem with that, tbh some of them were quite pleasant), some music my grandfather liked and my mother and aunt spoke instead of the priest. There was another few hymns and then another song my Grandad liked. The we left flowers and he was cremated.
There was a wake etc afterwards.

Well..duh...because they baked it into the operating system, right? This seems like you're begging the question.

Which means that it's impossible to make an installer for it or something? Not sure what the point is here.

But they do have the store thing, which they could use to distribute stuff like OneNote, at least, right? Maybe not actual Windows components. Though...why not?

@Lorne-Kates I don't actively have to think about it when driving. I am describing what generally you have to do.
If you know how to control the clutch properly you can really master the car. For example I can use the whole engine as an extra breaking system.

@boomzilla To be fair, the cheapest manual cars are inferior to the cheapest automatic car in a a number of things, but if you insist in having an auto one, you can't buy a cheap one. In the US they simply don't sell the cheap cars.

You're the one who suggested downloading it. I think you're a bit here.
You can't "uninstall" Windows components. I don't know, because @ben_lubar (why does typing
@ben
autocomplete to Tsaukpaetra today?!) cropped the screenshot, whether he was trying to uninstall a Windows component or an Office one. I was suggesting that he shouldn't be able to uninstall it, if it were a Windows component, although now that I bother to think about it a bit, it wouldn't make sense to have an "uninstall" button.
